JVG Feels Vindicated

Not wanting to add any fuel to the fire that rocked the NBA yesterday, former Knicks and Rockets head coach-turned broadcaster Jeff Van Gundy spoke to the Daily News regarding the controversy surrounding the treatment of star center Yao in the 2005 playoffs.

“I think the fine was unjust then and I think it is unjust now,” Van Gundy told the Daily News Wednesday. “I didn’t communicate it in the right manner but I stand by what I said.

“The one thing I don’t like is that I don’t want to give Tim Donaghy any credibility. He’s the one that gave information about the NBA to those who could profit from it. The accusations are taking away from the fact that he did something very wrong.”

However, Van Gundy vehemently denied Donaghy’s claim that the rules were enforced to prolong the series for financial reasons.

On a side note, the Knicks are scheduled to work out OJ Mayo today in a private, solo workout. I am dying to read the write-up on him after that workout. I really think there is a good chance that either he or Bayless falls to us. There are three slots in front of us. I think Love and maybe someone else might jump up into the top 5. We’ll see. This should be interesting.

By the way, has anyone read Joe Dumars’ comments. Something to the effect: “if you want one of our core players, don’t offer us your 2nd or 3rd best players. We’ll on;y deal for an all-star”. Problem is, if his players are so good, why trade them?

O.J. Mayo has sort of grown on me and I wouldn’t mind picking him up if he were on the board. The only thing is I don’t expect him to drop to #6.

As for Joe Dumars, the Pistons are lethargic, bored, and unmotivated. They need to shake it up with some new blood or they’re pretty much just going to repeat their fate in the post Larry Brown years.

glad to someone is coming around to “the stud” in oj mayo. now we just need to get tommy on board or more importantly donnie and mike on board!

If Mayo is still on the board at 6, you can’t let him go. PIck this kid, he’s got starpower and most importantly, the ability to make that star shine for years.
