BREAKING NEWS

by Andrew Smith on June 26th, 2008 at 3:38 pm

A source close to TheKnicksBlog has reported that the New Jersey Nets are now discussing a deal with the Memphis Grizzlies, in which the Nets will send the 10th pick and their 2009 first-round pick in exchange for the 5th overall pick in tonight’s draft.

Our source has told us that the Nets are doing this in order to take Italian forward Danilo Gallinari after receiving word that Gallinari was going to be the Knicks’ selection with the 6th pick.

This is huge news if this is true. I am currently leaving for Butterfield 8 and hope to meet a bunch of you there. Don’t be shy. Tonight is going to be absolutely insane!

….UPDATE 3:42 PM…..

TheKnicksBlog.com has also learned that the Los Angeles Clippers are in discussions with the Seattle/Oklahoma City Sonics in a deal that would send the Clippers’ 7th overall pick and their 2009 first-round pick to the Sonics in exchange for the 4th overall pick.

Speculation is that the Clippers are setting their sights on Russell Westbrook or O.J. Mayo. More to come…..

I’ve said before if the Knicks don’t trade up, I’m very happy with Gallinari or Westbrook.

    Now it looks like

    #1 Chicago – Rose
    #2 Miami – Beasley
    #3 Minn – Mayo
    #4 LAC – Gordon
    #5 NJ – Gallinari
    #6 NYK – Westbrook
    #7 Seattle – Who Cares

  • hot stove chef

ESPN says Clippers are targetting Gordon, and the deal is contingent on Mayo being picked at #3

If your sources are right, the Knicks will miss out on Gallinari AND Westbrook and we’ll have to decide between Gordon, Bayless, and Alexander.

I take Alexander here but would be ok with Bayless. I really don’t want to see Gordon.

The Nets will put out a very good team next year I think.

    Harris
    Carter
    Gallinari
    Yi
    Boone/ Kristic/ Sean Williams

Rod Thorn is a genius. He really is.

if all this happens and the knicks don’t end up with bayless, i’ll be pissed.

  • hot stove chef

Would you pissed if they rolled the dice on Alexander? They don’t really need another scorer, but this guy could be awesome.

Chad Ford writes that this Seattle/ LA deal is contingent upon the Wolves taking Mayo at 3. I guess that means that if the Wolves pass on him, then Seattle will definitely take him. So I guess the dream of Mayo falling to us is pretty much dead. Ford writes that if the deal goes through that the Clips will take Gordon.

If Gallinari goes too, then what? Westbrook I guess. To be honest, I think that I would rather trade the pick to Portland, without Lee, and try to take on Travis Outlaw and their 13th and another of their picks. And they should take back Jeffries too.

For a team to move up, it seems like they have to pay a boat load. Why should moving up to our pick be any different?

I think the OJ dream has been dead since the ping pong balls dropped.

I would certainly take Westbrook at #6. People knock him because he doesn’t have a fully developed offensive game, but does this team really need another guy who has to have the ball in his hands? I think that’s their biggest issue.

He can drive and score when his defender gets soft, and his jumper will improve, but the defense he brings to the perimeter is certainly “game changing” and he’s a team player.

He would automatically be my favorite Knick.

If all the Knicks do tonight is draft a player at number 6, then I will be very surprised.

  • theghostofwillisreed

    not at #6.

  • krumbledkookie

    Agreed whole heartedly.

Maybe we can get Shawn Chacon to go after the Clippers GM… the way I’m seeing it, if we don’t end up with Westbrook, I’ll be disappointed.
