We’re Here…

This place is hilarious… The crowd is in rare form, booing Gallinari at will.

Stern takes the podium…

7:35- Rose first and yes the Stephen A. Smith taunting has begun. Poor guy’s trying to interview Rose and the comments are too good. No way Riley passes on Beasley.

7:40 Knew it. Now this thing is going to get interesting…my gut, trade.

7:45- Sparse “We want O.J.” chant from the fans.

I don’t get this at all. They have guards in Jaric, Telfair and Foye who, granted, aren’t that good, but a Telfair/ Mayo backcourt? Yikes. I feel whoever takes Love will deal with Minnesota.

Westbrook to the Sonics is a great pick, paired with Durant is a lethal 1-2. Now this thing gets interesting. Oohs and ahhs from the crowd every time he bangs it on someone on the theater’s big screen. Despite what Andy Katz says this deal with the Clips will go through from what we’re hearing, so Westbrook to the Clippers will still happen.

8:00 The Gizzwald’s ready here…Love, who is the fit here, Mayo stays in Minnesota.

Andrew gives me the update from a packed Butterfield 8 that the Bay-Less chants have started. I say Donnie has a MAJOR decision here. Crowd wants Bayless, LOUDLY.

Obviously, no fans here have ever seen him so the pick is not a popular one, but this kid is a fit. Donnie still has to get a point guard…Wow, chants of “USA” going up. Don’t they know we haven’t won a gold in years?

8:10- Thank goodness for Jeff Van Gundy. Fans gave him a standing O earlier, and he just said any New York fan will get behind a guy that plays to win…which Gallinari does.

8:15 One more thing on Gallinari…he’s 19, oh and he’s not Lampe.

8:18- Alexander and Jefferson means bye-bye Michael Redd and they could use a 4….Z-BO?

8:35- Augstin to the Bobcats????

JEFF VAN GUNDY CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP

8:40 Jason Thompson…the MAAC represent!

8:45- SLEEPER…B Rush, nice fit for the Blazers.

……Ok peeps off to Butterfield…..Keep it here for trade updates.

But before I go here are some Gallinari quotes….

On getting booed….

“It’s part of the game, all of the players have got to hear this….it’s normal here….it’s my work to prove to people that I am a good player. Everything’s on me.”

Word is that the Knicks will trade Lee to the Lakers for Farmar/ Turiaf/ and 2011 1st round pick

I give up. The Knicks just destroyed the rest of my week. Could’ve had Bayless, could’ve tried using the pick to move a bad contract like Z-Bo and trade down, and yet they took the next Darko/Tskitishvili/Weis/Lampe. I don’t care that he’s 19. I don’t care that his dad and D’Antoni were roommates and played together back in the day. I don’t care how great his workouts against non-NBA players look. How good can the pick be when every commentator on the panel unanimously agrees that you haven’t drafted a potential future superstar, and that Knicks fans maybe might get to see something in 3-4 years? No lateral quickness, can’t defend to save his life, and settles for jumpers and can’t really bang inside (always a plus for someone who’s 6-8 or 6-9). And how awful was Gallinari’s interview? Can you imagine this kid hanging out with Z-Bo, Curry, Nate Rob, Starbury, Crawford, and the rest of the pack of clowns on the Knicks right now? He’s DOOMED from the start. Meanwhile, the Nets are making moves, actually clearing cap space to make a run at Lebron, and to boot they even managed to get Yi Jianlian, who would be last year’s equivalent of Gallinari. The hiring of D’Antoni was questionable to begin with; this draft pick is a colossal blunder that will be borne out over time. Donnie Walsh just defecated on whatever optimism I had for this new Knicks regime…

The kid has not even taken the court and the bashing had already arisen. Of course, that is what losing will do to you.

Danilo Gallinari is not a bad pick. He will fit into D’Antoni’s system as the small forward that the Knicks could really use.

However, the Mets need to change the demeanor in the clubhouse before they can move forward. That means the Knicks do need to eat up some contract to improve. Maybe they can pan out a deal that will defer payment over time to either
Jared Jeffries, Jerome James, and Zach Randolph are extremely terrible acquistions. One of these three just have to go. If I were Walsh, Jerome James would be the one to go.

My question to the Knicks are, how can they fit into D’Antoni’s system of run-and-gun offense when they have no offense? D’Antoni does not incorporate a great deal of defense into his system (good because the Knicks do not play it anyway), so the Knicks are going to have to play outstanding O to overcome that dilemma. That is the true problem, can D’Antoni create an offense strong enough to counter their defense woes.
I do not think they can in the near future.

  • theghostofwillisreed

the knicks’ offense isn’t the problem. they have loads of scorers. they play no defense and have no intimidators in the paint.

  • BluEandOrange

You are not serious right? The Knicks half court game was atrocious last year. They had to point guard to run it.
Now with D’Antoni’s offense, the Knicks will be relying on Marbury much more now to coordinate the players on the court.

I do not think Marbury can handle this type of game. That is the problem. The Knicks offense with Curry at center (wow it will be fun watching him move on the court), and Zach Randolph’s slowness, and the lack of cohesion the players have, will really test D’Antoni’s coaching abilities.
