48 Hours After

Now that everyone has heard the analysis and had time to think about the Knicks selection of Danilo Gallinari at #6 here are some Saturday morning tidbits from the papers.

Like I said with Tommy Dee on Knicksblog Radio yesterday we all need to calm down for a bit. Lets give Mike D’Antoni and Donnie Walsh some time to work their plan. Part of the outcry is that Knicks fans are so use to the Isiah Thomas era where there was no plan. I do not sense, at least at this point, that Donnie Walsh is going down the same road.

    I am not entirely clear with the salary cap, so maybe someone can help me with this question. Is it possible to frontload contracts in the NBA? By that I mean, can we sign a player to a multi-year deal that would pay him a ton over the next two years and then pay him less once the 2010 FA class rolls around?

    There are a ton of good restricted FA’s this off-season, especailly Monta Ellis. There are other star FA’s like Baron Davis (potentially) and Gil Arenas. Can we pay them 20 mill per year over the next 2 years and then drop that number to about 6 or 7 once LeBron and Co. becomes a FA? Imagine the Knicks signed Gil Arenas and managed the cap room for LeBron or someone else in two years. That would be crazy.
