ESPN: Knicks to offer Duhon

By Tommy Dee on Jul 01, 2008, 1:34 pm

I was told Andrew Marchand, on Kellerman and Kenny, apparently said the Knicks met with Chris Duhon today and that they were prepared to offer him a contract. No details were exchanged, although the Daily News speculates, ” The Knicks are expected to offer Duhon a two-year deal worth roughly half of the mid-level exception, totaling around $6 million, according to NBA sources.”

Did anyone else hear this?

I didn’t hear it personally, but one of the commenters on Hahn’s most recent blog entry says the same thing.

Duhon is a pro, Can’t go wrong with him getting 20-25 mins a night.

Totally agree, low TOs and a good defender can play on my team any day.

Just curious as to what happens to Lee.

I think this is a great move…Lee has to be moved…this gives them freedom to move him for a shooter or a shot-blocker if a point guard who can be off the cap in two years is not available

hopefully they can package Lee and randolph for a shotblocker this way killing two birds with one stone getting zebo’s contract off our hands

Ideally, this would be the best case scenario, but there are so few shot blockers, which is why I mention Swift.

    VERY slim pickins….

looking at the shot blockers there really is no one that would be available due to team needs and financial restrictions … as much as i question going after a guy like stromile swift who has not lived up to potential or seen time on the court in recent years i guess he would really be the only option to run the floor and block shots in D’antonis system … i wonder who the knicks could sucker into dumping randolphs contract along with david lee, and who they would be able to get in return

This is an abolsutely great contract and the exact type of deal the Knicks should be making. Tommy, if this offer is accurate and Duhon accepts it, he would then make approxiamtely the same amount in two years as Stro Swift would for one year with the Knicks (6 mill vs 5.5 mill).

Duhon can be a backup or he can start. The Knicks need stability at the point guard position. Last year was a disaster, with Jamal Crawford, Nate Robinson, Fred Jones and Mardy Collins all taking their turn once Marbury went out.

People have compared Duhon to a Howard Eisley type. I would think of him as being more of a Charlie Ward type of point for the Knicks.

Get it done Donnie. This move will give you leverage in discussions with other teams and thus give you flexibility. This deal will still leave us with the other 3 mill from the MLE and 1.9 from the bi-annual exception.

Knick fans have got to love this move. It’s an absolute no-brainer, as Duhon offers stability (which the Knicks are in desperate need of), defense, and an above average ability to distribute the ball (and not think first about getting his own shot).

Monta Ellis would have been great, but in all reality was probably a pipe-dream.

At least he hasn’t raped interns in his car. WHo would do that?

Word is that the Warriors offered Arenas the max. If he takes than, then the Knicks might be able to swoop in for Monta Ellis because I do not think they would resign him.

If you look up Chris Duhon on wikipedia.org it says the he has signed with the Knicks. I haven’t found anything else however.

    Also…according to rotoworld.com…

“PG Beno Udrih has agreed to a 5-year contract with the Kings worth the entire mid-level exception (approximately $6 million a year). The deal will be finalized once the free agent moratorium has ended on July 8th.”

Yeah ESPN is reporting that he signed back with the Kings for 5 years. I am assuming it is for the mid-level.

Apparently Ron Artest wants out of Sacramento now. I would love to have him, but that is just wishful thinking.
