Crawford and Randolph for Al Harrington?
By Tommy Dee - Jul 2, 2008 4:43 pm

Tim Kawakami of the Left Coast’s Mercury News feels the Warriors could use a point guard and he wants, you guessed it, Jamal Crawford.

There are point guards out there within reach. My current choice would be the New York Knicks’ Jamal Crawford, a big, scoring point guard who may be trade bait as the Knicks seek to dump salary.

If the Warriors offered Al Harrington (big contract that expires in 2010, right when LeBron James and Dwyane Wade can be free agents) and a protected future No. 1 pick, and took back Crawford and the horrible contract of Zach Randolph, would the Knicks bite? They might.

Crawford can be erratic and he’s not the commander-on-the-court that Baron is, but Crawford is a giant talent worth a look if there is money to spend.

Not a bad fit here and yes, we’d bite. In fact, we’d eat the whole friggin’ pie.

Harrington, a Jersey kid, would absolutely excel in this structure, as he has developed into a solid inside/out jump shooter that could take some heat off the post, all the while getting a pick, protected or not, and dumping salary? Too good to be true.

***With Davis gone, the Warriors are under the cap, so salaries don’t have to match***

Does this deal work financially because the Warriors have cap space? Wow that’s right. Here I am thinking that this writer is an idiot because the Warriors would have to match salaries.

Maybe they would do Harrington for Zach straight up. I would if I were them.

Zach for Harrington and 1st round pick.

I’d have a tough time getting rid of both in the same deal and not really getting back value except for cap space. Harrington is good, but not incredible. He got benched when they signed Chris Webber last year. What does that say about him? That pick won’t ever be high either.

Try Randolph for Harrington.

Further, if the Knicks cut ties with Marbury, look for him to sign with the Warriors. That is my prediction.

Too bad their trade exception passed (it was about 10 mill). We could have sent them Marbury and Randolph for Harrington and it probably would have worked. They would get a Baron Davis like pg on a one year rental, and they would get a tougher post presence.

they are under the cap…

Trade Crawford to get Zach off and hope the pick comes thru…remember- if the knicks make the playoffs our pick is gone, if the warriors don’t it’s theirs, but we’ll get into a situation like the Suns/Jazz have us where sooner or later lottery or not, the pick will be ours.

They could be bad for a while…..

No, you have to get the pick. Hell we really should get two picks. It’s the least the Warriors should do if we are giving thm two starters. What do they care if they give us cap space?

Knick Fans,

New to your blog. I’m trying to understand the numbers in this Crawford trade .Where are the numbers for Zach?Is the 1st round pick worh Zach’s 13,333.million/year? I like the trade if the numbers would work out.Not so much losing Crawford(has no defense),but more importanr dumping(also no defense) Zach.

We are living too much for the free agent class of 2010. It isn’t guaranteed we sign Lebron. Does Walsh know something I don’t? What’s the back up plan? Just stink? And we don’t have a first round pick next year either. And you know that will be a lottery pick. Thanks Starbury.

I’m pretty sure that our draft pick is top 22 protected for next year, so when we miss the playoffs again, we will have our draft pick. I’m not completely sure that this is true, but I posted a comment about next year’s draft pick, and that’s what was responded. The next years pick though isn’t protected. Hope the part about next years pick being protected is true.

if this trade is available, you have to do it although i’d agree with vino. i don’t know how comfortable i am giving up starters just to get a pick. i’d definitely look to see what the value for both individually and then look at this deal as a fallback.

[...] that it is in fact Jamal Crawford heading to Golden State in exchange for Harrington. If so, TKB suggested this deal back in July. Kudos to Donnie Walsh if he pulled this deal off. Harrington will make $9.2 million this season [...]
