News: Nets Set To Bring Dooling on Board
By Chris Alvino - Jul 19, 2008 9:03 pm

According to the Bergen Record and multiple other sources, Keyon Dooling is set to move north up the east coast to New Jersey.

As written in the Record this morning:  “Dooling would sign a three-year deal for between $10 million and $11 million and then be sent to the Nets for their $3.3 million trade exception acquired from Dallas in the Jason Kidd trade.

This deal probably won’t be finalized until next week, but when it is it will give the Nets 16 players under contract and almost certainly would spell the end of Marcus Williams‘ career with the team.”

I know that this is a Knicks blog and that this is the second post that I have written in the last few days regarding the Nets, but I find their situation intriguing.  With this move (which I like), the Nets will have 16 guaranteed contracts for next season, and that does not include Nenad Kristic or Boki Nachbar.  One of those guaranteed contracts will be Marcus Williams, who I have also liked since his days at UConn.  Now instead of trying to construct a hypothetical deal, sort of like what I did in my recent post, I will instead go out and say that this New Jersey situation is one worth monitoring as a Knicks fan.  The Nets have a glut of young, talented big men, a young backup point guard with great potential, and now apparently more guaranteed contracts than are allowable under NBA league rules.  They have to move some pieces, and if I were Donnie Walsh I would stay tuned.

Perhaps, if the Nets can’t find a trade match for him, the Nets might have to consider waiving a Tommy Dee favorite, Stromile Swift.  If the Nets do not want some of their players, maybe Donnie Walsh will have a hungry appetite for some of New Jersey’s leftovers.
