BREAKING NEWS: Artest dealt to Rockets

by Andrew Smith on July 29th, 2008 at 10:06 pm

The Houston Chronicle is reporting that the Sacramento Kings have traded Ron Artest to the Houston Rockets in exchange for Bobby Jackson, Donte Greene, and their 2009 first-round pick.

The deal cannot be processed until August 14th, the first day when 2008 draft picks can switch teams.

Oh, what it must feel like to have cap space. The Rockets are going to break records next season on the defensive end of the court.

    with yao back…

the western conference is going to be absolutely suffocating. there’s going to be ten teams who could make a claim to the playoffs and who you could make a case winning at least a round in the playoffs.

The story with the Kings will be the same next year as it has been for the last couple. If Yao Ming, Tracy McGrady, and now Ron Artest do not stay healthy, they will again fall short in the West. If on the other hand they all do stay on the court, then lookout. Great move for the Rockets.

And to those who agree with me that the Knicks should have beaten the Blazers to the chase in buying the Hornets’ pick, keep in mind that Darrell Arthur was drafted at number 27 and was ultimately traded for Donte Greene (the 28th pick). The argument against buying a first round pick is that you must give him a guaranteed contract that goes against your cap. The Rockets just proved otherwise. It is important to acquire assets. You never know how they will come in handy.
