Injuries:
Philly: Jason Smith (knee) is out.
Knicks: Danilo Gallinari (bulging disk). Jared Jeffries (fractured tibia) is out 6-8 weeks. Allan Houston is “yet to be determined.”
Keep an eye on: Elton Brand. By signing the former Clipper, expectations have raised tremendously, which can be a scary thing in the City of Brotherly Love. The 76ers have rapidly moved past the post Allen Iverson Era and have one of the most balanced lineups in the East… Thaddeus Young is worth paying attention to, often when that fourth or fifth option is this talented, he finds a way to kill you with the least amount of touches. If Young can do that consistently, this team could win 50+ games easy… I’m a big fan of Louis Williams too, who just left 27 on the defending Champs on Wednesday. He’s a scoring guard that would benefit more minutes with Andre Miller. If I were Cheeks I’d stay clear of Willie Green and make sure Williams gets major minutes. But if the team has one weakness, it may turn out to be a crafty pass first PG off the bench.
Outlook: Eddy Curry has to show he can play in this system and give the team some depth up front. The Knicks ran out of gas the other night midway through the third quarter, and if they let the Sixers control the tempo and slow the game down to a hault, the Knicks could be in real trouble.
