Get Over it!

By my count, in the first quarter alone of the Knicks/Sixers game, 10-11 possessions where either team’s guard got over a ball screen, the result ended in either:

a) a missed shot
b) deflection out of bounds
c) a turnover
d) a pass away from the basket.

Yes, it could mean the players were getting loose. Or it could mean that the more you get over ball screens throughout the course of a game the better your defense will be.

Yes, we will be keeping this stat all year long.

By the way, great video of Nate Robinson getting over the screen in practice and trying to draw an offensive foul. The fact that the coaching staff has addressed it and is working on it, is a VERY positive sign for me.

When a guard gets under, 9 times out of 10, turns into a wide open shot (which NBA players can MAKE), an aggressive drive to the basket forcing a big to help, or mismatch. The difference is uncanny. And you know who’s paying attention? [...]
