Allan Should Be the Knicks’ Adam Graves…
It could have been a feel good story, and one that frankly I was rooting for. Unfortunately, once again the
leg wouldn’t cooperate.
It wasn’t his knee this time, it was a quad, but Allan Houston’s health, which drove him from the NBA too quickly several years ago, wouldn’t allow him the opportunity to comeback with his old team, as the Knicks waived him today before practice.
Houston will begin discussions with the team about a front office role, and let’s hope the team treats him like former Rangers great Adam Graves, starting him in a position where he can reach out to the community before moving up the executive ladder.
Houston has executive material written all over him and it’s important the Knicks utilize his gifts of making people feel special. He’s a real gentleman whose class would help rebuild the reputation of this franchise in any capacity.
Graves, who was unceremoniously traded from the Rangers by GM Glen Sather, returned to NY, a place where he built relationships based on his giving nature, assisting in the Blueshirts` many community outreach and fan development programs and also works with the team`s young prospects as they prepare for a life in pro hockey.
They are two people who know what being an athlete in NY is all about.
