First the Cowboys, now the Mavs. Being a sports fan in Dallas really ain’t nothin’ to hoot and holler
about these days.
As the Mavs enter the Garden tonight with a record of 2-7 bad enough for 12th in the West, one has to wonder how it could have went all wrong for a franchise that made it to the NBA Finals a few short years ago.
First of all the decision to go after Jason Kidd will go down as one of the worst trades of this century. Mr. Cuban needed to realize the team was on the other side of the mountain and passed on Kidd. Add to the fact that Rick Carlisle more of a slow it down/grind it out, type of coach, it seems the players don’t fit him, which usually doesn’t happen when an Eastern Conference honcho heads west.
Frankly, Devon Harris and Jason Terry were a formidable backcourt. But the heat needs to be put on both Cuban and his star Dirk Nowitzki. Dirk has been dreadful at times, and when you look at the free spending Cuban, he’s almost hamstrung the roster as badly as Isiah Thomas. Seriously, look at that roster and tell me who you’d deal for. Josh Howard? Yeah, not so much. Erick Dampier? Terry?
So the Knicks need to do what they’ve been doing thus far this season, and that’s getting on teams at home. The season is slipping away for the Mavs, who need to start to play desperate and will tonight.

I think with Howard, the problem is that we do not have anyone to give up that would entice Dallas. Earlier in the summer, I would have considered dealing Crawford for him, but now I would not even think about it.
Terry has a brutal contract.
I expect the Mavs to turn their ship around eventually. They have good players that are still productive. Let’s just hope that they are not overly productive tonight.
Speaking of trades, I am glad that the Zach Randolph rumors have died down. The guy is playing on another level thus far this year, ranking third in the league in rebounds.
