Breaking: Third team may be involved

By Tommy Dee on Nov 21, 2008, 9:45 am

Update 1:10

TKB confirms the ESPN report that Crawford for Harrington has been sent to the league.

***************************

Update 1:00-

If the ESPN report is true, the Crawford-Harrington swap may be a separate deal entirely.

Stay tuned…

****************************

…Andrew Smith writes….

Update: 12:30 – Andrew Marchand of ESPN Radio is reporting that ESPN’s Marc Stein is confirming a 1-for-1 deal of Jamal Crawford for Al Harrington. Marchand reports that a GM in the league does not believe that the Clippers are involved.

Take this with a grain of salt for now… Stein is reliable, but this is just what was reported on 1050 ESPN Radio. More to come…..

*****************************************

Update: 12:08- Just heard that Marco Belinelli and Malik Rose are getting tossed in the mix. This is getting crazy…..

Stay tuned…

Daily News and SNY’s Frankie “Ice” Isola on the case….

**********************************

Update 12:00 High noon and still no announcement, but we’ve talked to several people close to the situation at it seems that Crawford feels he is a goner. It appears at the very least that Crawford will go for Harrington if said 3-way falls through. I can’t believe the Warriors would want Rose for Harrington.

Also, if the Clips land Randolph look for them to move Chris Kaman at some point, maybe to the Bobcats for Gerald Wallace.

Stay Tuned…

*****************************************

Update 11:15- ESPN RealGM Trade Checker is useful.

********************************************

Update 10:38- The players involved in a possible 3-way are Zach Randolph, Mardy Collins and Jamal Crawford and are rumored to be getting Mobley, Harrington and Tim Thomas.

The deal is rumored to be done by noon eastern, yet we just can’t seem to add everything up if the Knicks are giving up 23 million (roughly) with Crawford, Randolph and Collins and are getting back $24 million, where is the money from GS coming?

Stay Tuned.

********************************

TKB has learned through sources that the hold up to the trade may be that a third team is getting involved, we’re hearing the Clippers, in the Harrington deal, hence why it hasn’t been made official yet.

Details are sketchy but this could have major salary cap implications for the Knicks.

Still no word if that team doesn’t get involved whether it’s Crawford or Rose.

Stay tuned

This is getting so weird, I wonder who it involves from the Clippers? Kaman?

Sounds like Randolph to the Clippers and Ricky Davis is going somewhere.

Alan Hahn is reporting the Knicks are trading Randolph, Crawford and Collins and receiving Cuttino Mobley, Tim Thomas, and Al Harrington. All contracts expire before 2010. Great trade for the Knicks.

How do the Knicks make this deal without getting a young gun? Is LeBron a free agent this off-season? Are we in that much of a rush to get Randolph out of here.

How do we not end up with Eric Gordon, DeAndre Jordan, Brandan Wright, etc.?

A quick start is coming to this? I am sorry, but while I will still go through walls for this team, this one hurts me. Randolph is our best player, and Crawford probably has the talent to be the second best player. This one hurts.

Why not try to get Camby back too and throw in Jared Jeffries? Get his contract off of our books too.

We’re not getting Camby because he fits perfectly into the Clippers system. Camby and Randolph will work great together.

I’m excited. This is what we’ve been waiting for. A trade to alleviate the franchise from its salary cap burden. I’m hoping I’m not jinxing anything, but its good to hear Lee and Nate’s name not in the mix. Will miss Mardy’s toughness though.

Unless there are pick involved. I’ll take the Clips first round pick for 2010 that we will probably lose.

this is the worst trade your new starting lineup

Nate Robinson, Chris Duhon, Al Harrington, Quentin Richardson, and David Lee

My goodness people, this is a great trade for the Knicks. There is no way we were going to win a chamionship with Zach, Crawford, and Collins. Getting Lebron, Wade, or Bosh in 2010 would instantly and I mean instantly make us a championship contender in 2010.

    Substitute Mobley for Nate.

who cares about not getting a young gun back? we are officially in on the lebron/bosh sweepstakes. curry/jeffries player options are the last shoes that should drop, and jeffries trade value is sure to be enhanced once he starts playing in this system.

it hurts to lose craw, and we will probably be a worse team this year for it. but harrington should be a nice fit, and this will mean plenty of burn/evaluation time for the young guns we already have.

    thank god.

and i think our starting lineup probably looks like duhon, mobley, chandler, harrington, lee, with nate and q continuing to get good minutes.

I think I would agree with that. But Q always finds his way into the starting lineup.

I would prefer to have Lee starting and Q coming off the pine.

I really hope there is a young player involved…Golden State has a lot of players I would take, like Wright, Bellinelli, Randolph, Morrow, Azabuike and the Clipps have Gordon, Jordon, Thornton…please let us get someone who could be added to the post-2010 nucleus

    Clearing cap space is bittersweet.

The Knicks can still be good with the players coming in. Tim Thomas, while I might hate him more than any other player in the league, can shoot the 3 ball in Coach Mike’s system. That is why he has 2 years and 13 million left on his deal.

Harrington can put up big scoring numbers on any given night. Mobley will average double digit socring numbers as well.

Without Zach, the Knicks have zero post game (unless Curry is magically healthy enough to play again). They are getting smaller and opposing teams will manhandle us on the boards. Lee is the only big rebounder on this team now.

How is it a three way deal? Seems like we are swapping Crawford and Collins for Harrington, then a straight salary dump with Zach for Mobley and Thomas.

There must be more to this story?

  14. Chris Alvino
    Nov 21, 2008, 11:38 am at 11:38 am #

It almost seems like two separate deals. There has to be more to it than we are seeing on the surface.

I would love to get Camby back.

NYK gets: Camby, Harrington, Thomas, Mobley

    GS gets: Crawford

    LAC gets: Jeffries, Zach, Collins

  15. Chris Alvino
    Nov 21, 2008, 11:43 am at 11:43 am #

This move is clearly about cap space. Why not simply get rid of Jeffries too. D’Antoni likes him, but who cares? This move is more about the cap than about basketball. Contracts aside, this deal does not happen.

I am not saying this deal is awful, but it is does not make complete basketball sense for the Knicks. One thing that I can say is that the Knicks are getting back three players who can shoot the three.

    3 Point %’s this year:

    Harrington: .393
    Mobley: .343
    Thomas: .300

Thomas is a better 3 point shooter than that.

Tim Thomas is a dog…has never played hard and never will…I hope he never sees the court

  17. jmerms@mac.com
    Nov 21, 2008, 11:53 am at 11:53 am #

When will this trade be done?

  18. Chris Alvino
    Nov 21, 2008, 11:53 am at 11:53 am #

Arputter- I like your style. As I said above, Tim Thomas is maybe my least favorite player in the league. He will play though in this system. His game is suited for it. It pains me to say it, but it is true.

  19. Andrew Smith
    Nov 21, 2008, 11:54 am at 11:54 am #

The Clippers are definitely not done here if this goes down. Randolph, Camby, and Kaman is too much of a logjam… maybe this is the first domino and then Kaman goes to the Bobcats for Gerald Wallace. If so, Wallace-Randolph-Camby is a nice frontcourt.

I digress though…. I think this deal not only is great for the obvious reason of cap space in 2010, but let’s not get crazy and say we’re throwing in the towel or worse off this season. Crawford and Z-Bo are playing better this season because of D’Antoni, he gets the most offensively out of what he has.

Now, you give him better spot-up shooters in Mobley (arguably) and Harrington (definitely) and we could see similar numbers, and maybe even better.

I also don’t think Thomas sees many minutes. I like the post with the starting 5 of Duhon, Mobley, Chandler, Harrington, and Lee with big minutes for Nate, Q, and Jeffries off the bench.

  20. Chris Alvino
    Nov 21, 2008, 11:55 am at 11:55 am #

jmerms- I am sure that there is more to this deal than what we are seeing on the surface. I am not sure if there is any deferred compensation for any of these players (there might be with Zach). If so, then that could lead to a hold-up.

I am sure that something will get done today. Imagine if this all falls apart?

    Belinelli Gallinari D’Antoni!!!

Belinelli would be sweet for the Knicks if they could pull that off.

Why do the Clippers seem so intent on trading Kaman? I mean, up and coming big man…Isn’t that something teams look for? Forgive me for thinking the Clippers don’t know how to run a franchise.

“ESPN.com has since confirmed that those two players, barring a late adjustment, would be the only two involved in the trade. “

  24. Chris Alvino
    Nov 21, 2008, 12:54 pm at 12:54 pm #

If they are the only two involved, I would not be surprised to see a NY- Cha swap to bring in Morrison or Carroll. The Knicks, unless they reactivate Marbury, will have a gaping hole at the guard spot. Who starts at the 2? Maybe Q Rich slides to the 2 and Wilson slides to the 3. That would allow a lineup of:

    Zach, Harrington, Wilson, Q, Duhon

Maybe Collins steps into the starting lineup, with Nate coming off the bench and receiving most of the minutes? I have no idea how this might work out.

if craw for harrington is the only deal, i don’t like it. i can’t imagine donnie would either, so i’m staying hopeful.

  26. dever
    Nov 21, 2008, 1:07 pm at 1:07 pm #

getting belinelli back would be nice… 6’5″, 43% career 3pt shooter.

  27. Chris Alvino
    Nov 21, 2008, 1:16 pm at 1:16 pm #

It is sounding like it is Crawford for Harrington straight up.

I am not a gigantic fan of the deal, but the salary cap implications are tough to ignore.
