We’d like to take the opportunity to wish Cuttino Mobley luck. He’s made the right decision here and it goes without saying the irony of the situation is that the guy played as much heart as any guard in the league.
Cuttino never played for the Knicks but he had all the qualities a fan would love in a player.
I remember him at Rhode Island and the guy who led them to the elite 8 and wished he had the chance to play with Lamar Odom, who had to sit out that year.
I remember Mobley then pairing with Steve Francis in Houston, they were electrifying.
The guy gave it his all night in and night out, but today is more about the many nights he gets to spend with his kids. I remember being sad for Sean Elliot, who battled kidney issues, and to this day remains one of basketball’s good guys.
I wonder if the organization will extend a job to Mobley to help him get over the loss of the buzz that comes with game days. I think they should, based on how much compassion Donnie Walsh showed in not trying to rush him into the lineup.
Donnie is a class guy, and so is Cat. It’s a sad day but it won’t be the last time you see Mobley around the NBA circles.
Which is exactly why he stepped away from the game.

Can we get Mobley’s doctors to convince Eddy Curry to retire too?? Just a thought.
And a great one….
