I’ve read in plenty of outlets that the Knicks need to be careful about
putting all their eggs in one basket in 2010. It hasn’t always worked out. Look what it did to plenty of other teams including the post-Jordan Bulls and the Magic with Grant Hill and T-Mac.
Let’s be clear, there is no comparison.
Yes, the Knicks would be foolish to assume that Lebron James is 100% on his way here. He is the goal just like Tim Duncan was the goal in Orlando. But when the Magic felt the need to splurge on McGrady and Grant Hill they thought they were getting the best 2-3 combination since Jordan and Pippen. Obviously, with Hill’s injuries that never panned out and it was a bad investment.
Speaking of the Bulls, they are a different animal entirely. Ask yourself this. What superstar on earth would want to come into Chicago and be compared to Michael Jordan? Seriously, every win wouldn’t matter just championships would. And not one either.
Granted it was a similar situation with the Lakers but they rebounded from the post-Magic era by bringing in the game’s best big, and developing the game’s next great wing. Even then they only won a few rings.
The bottom line is the Knicks have to spend money in a way that gets you a prime post player who can shoot and defend, as well as a prime wing. They need balance.
But enough about comparing other situations to this one. This is New York, this is the Garden and it’s unfair to compare any other city or situation to ours.

The Knicks are on the right path!
We just need to patient and hope that guys like Chandler and Gallinari develop into solid 3rd or 4th players on a team that includes two imported all stars. In the mean time, there’s always the 2009 draft.
What I am curious about is what they are going to do if both Chandler and Gallinari develop nicely (not that it would be a problem). They are similar. How do you fit them in if you bring in James? Eventually one of them may need to be traded if they both have starter talent/skill.
I think the Knicks need to go the 1996 route and get a young pure shooter like Joe Johnson (Houston), a inside player who can play D like Stoudamire/Camby (Johnson), and a good defensive-minded role player. Don’t just throw money at LeTravel (King Crab) or DWade.
Frankman- With all due respect, if the Knicks do not go after LeBron in two years, I will be all kinds of pissed.
Why go for J Johnson and Amare, when you can go after LeBron and Wade/ Bosh? LeBron is a winner. Wade is a winner. I am not sure about everyone else, but I want to win.
But I do agree, I would prefer to get a post player and a wing player. I would not be entirely against getting one superstar and two stars, rather than getting two superstars.
Get a good defensive big man that has a good post game. Get role playing type stars like Mehmet Okur, Josh Howard…. I would not be against that.
But LeBron is a must.
I agree with you Chris, Lebron is a must, but lets just say god forbid Lebron resigned, would you feel the same way about Wade?
Wade was the MVP of the the Summer bar none, I know he had a knee injury but his explosion is back. Lebron is 1 Wade is 1A.
Wade looked incredible against the Nugs the other nite.. He threw down a few drive and jams that looked Jordanesque.
The Magic experiment didn’t work out because of injuries…This is sports ad that happens…that team would have been great if Hill had stayed relatively healthy…Hill was the best young player in the league at the time and what happened to him is tragic by nba standards…It was the same thing as it would be if Lebron and Wade signed…You can’t look at that and say biding your time for free agency doesn’t work…it may not work, but under normal circumstances that duo would have been a homerun
