Gallo Not Expected to Play Tonight

by Chris Alvino on January 24th, 2009 at 10:52 am

Marc Berman writes that Danilo Gallinari is not expected to play tonight in Philly against the Sixers.  It is believed that the team wants to be cautious with the rookie forward, refraining from playing him on back to back nights.  This seems to be more precautionary than anything else.

I am not sure what is so different about playing in back to back games than it is to play in practice on back to back days.  But if the team feels this is necessary, then so be it.  No complaints here.  This kid has to be healthy for the future.  Tonight is a big game, especially given our recent success and our loss to the Sixers last week at the Garden.  However, if the team feels that Gallo cannot go, then I hope that someone else can step up and fill his spot.  Perhaps Malik Rose can find some time tonight, given how well the team has looked with a nine man rotation.  Gallo only plays about 15 minutes per game, so perhaps Rose can step in for a few of those.
