A Final Stretch of 16-7…?
In today’s NY Post, Mike Puma relays the optomistic outlook the Knicks are trying to hold on to about the team’s current, playoff-hopeful state.
“We got better as a team….That’s what we try to do, keep moving forward and try not to take a look back….It’s a great race for the eighth spot. There’s a lot of teams that are hovering, and we’re one of them.”
Mike D’Antoin:
“We just have to go out and play every possession and every game like it’s a playoff game. Once we have that mentality, we’re going to get better.”
Puma goes on to surmise that:
“If coach Mike D’Antoni‘s crystal ball is correct, the team that grabs the Eastern Conference’s last playoff berth will have 40 victories. That means the Knicks, who face the Hawks tomorrow night at the Garden, need a 16-7 finish to have a chance.”
If these are the only two quotes Puma was able to get about the Knicks playoff hopes, I can’t help but be a bit worried, but he successfuly relays what I assume we are all accustomed to hearing now.
This team wants to win – which has not always been a given over the past five years and two head coaches – and I am confident they will play each game with their record and playoff position in mind.
But with that number staring the team in the face – 16-7 over the final 23 games – I just hope they can put Saturday’s loss behind them and come out ready to go when the Hawks come into town…
