Tommy Dee says…It ain’t over…

Good win for the Knicks tonight.  But this team cannot expect 39 from Larry Hughes and 32 from Nate Robinson every night.  If you ask me, this team still did not look good tonight.  The defense is too porous for this team to be for real.  When the opposing team has a good, quick point guard, the Knicks are in trouble.  David Lee cannot defend a pick and roll, and apparently, Chris Duhon cannot defend his position.

Larry Hughes was great tonight.  Absolutely terrific.  It did not seem like he took any bad shots (I’m sure there were at least a couple).  His three ball was working, as were his head fakes.  Also, Hughes’ four steals showed his strong defensive effort.

Speaking of 30+ points and 4 steals, Nate Robinson was again stellar down the stretch, pushing the Knicks to victory with a huge 4th quarter.  He took the ball to the basket, something that the Knicks as a whole have to do more.

Al Harrington, even with 18 points, took some brutal shots.  Possessions on this team get wasted with poor shot selection, and some of his shots were pretty bad.

Charlie Villanueva and Ramon Sessions can play.  The Knicks could have used Jared Jeffries tonight to defend either of those guys.  Both can really light up a score board.

Lastly, David Lee had another nice effort, but he has to do a better job defensively.  If not for his defensive rebounding prowess, the Knicks would also be better off with Lee staying down the court on offense.

Good win.  Let’s make it two in a row against the Pistons tomorrow night.

Chris Duhon was an utter disappointment tonight. How can Duhon expect to be the point guard AND leader of this team when he does not even play solid defense down the stretch. Ramon Sessions torched him in the 4th quarter on offense and defense. Nate might as well be the teams PG because Duhon gave up his position to Robinson down the stretch.

I recall a previous post which Dee critiqued the idea of Nate being the starting PG because it would signify the Knicks unsteadiness. I disagree. Duhon does not deserve to start just because he is part of “a plan”. The Knicks need to start the best 5 players and that should be Nate at 1, Hughes at 2, Al at 3, Lee 4, and Wilcox 5.

The Knicks need wins to entice FAs of 2010, not losses.

    Amen BluEandOrange
If you was passing a donation plate around I would slip a lil something in
    it.

Nate had 7 ast. I say we give him another chance starting the 1.

  • DaJoka

    Yo..wat happened to my post?

  • CircleLimit4

Isn’t Charlie V a RFA next year? A Lebron and Charlie 3/4 tandem is intriguing to me. But then again, I’m partial to my UConn guys.

Wow…this blog doesn’t allow you to post links to youtube videos?

    Crazy

    Really?

Let’s understand something about my nate at the one post. D’antoni himself said that Duhon was his starter.

His quote was spot on something to the effect that ‘we’re really good when Duhon and Nate are playing well.”

    Gotta live with the guy,

  • JR

Nate also had 7 turnovers, im not disagreeing just saying, hes great at getting to the basket, which at times the knicks desperately need, but hes not so great at getting others involved.

  • DaJoka

Na Tommy…Duhon should not be playing in the 4th quarter.
Dantoni says we’re really good when Duhon and Nate are playing well?
Well when was the last time Duhon played well?
All games aside…besides that game a couple weeks back when he was
hitting 3′s from all over…when has Duhon played well?
Yes he did a good job in the beginning of the season but the guy is hurting right now due to all those minutes so why don’t we limit his minutes in a big way and let Nate do what he does?
The only thing it will do is up Nate’s value.
Think about it…if we continue to play Duhon and we don’t make the playoffs (which is very likely) we would have blown a chance at getting Nates trade value higher.
How many TO’s does Duhon need to have before people realize he is a liability on the floor?
He can’t score and he can’t guard his position.
    It’s common sense.

Yeah Tommy…for some reason, we’re not allowed to post youtube links.

  • Chris Alvino

    I didn’t know that.

On Nate… he plays down the stretch. He does not have to start. When Hughes is on, it looks like they can play well together, but when Hughes is off, it is good to have Nate’s scoring punch off the bench.

  • DaJoka

Yeah Chris your right..it may be good to have Nate’s scoring punch off the bench when Hughes is off but at what cost?
Whenever Nate is moving and grooving..the rest of the team is usually left out in the cold.
Again…I don’t mind because all this is doing is making Nates value higher and higher. I hope he keeps it up.
Imagine we would’ve given him away for Kenny Thomas.
That’s a real slap in the face to Nate.
We can get something MUCH, MUCH better than Kenny “Buttersoft” Thomas.
