What if there were no draft?

And each team were assembled geographically. In other words, players playing for their relative hometown team.

Depressedfan.com has that answer in what I have to say is one of the best posts I’ve seen in some time. (Finger point to G-Baker for the look.) Interestingly enough, I’d probably pick that Indiana team to cause some serious problems for the opposition.

“…NEW YORK KNICKS

PG Ben Gordon (Mount Vernon, NY)
SG Ron Artest (Queens, NY)
SF Lamar Odom (South Jamaica, NY)
PF Elton Brand (Peekskill, NY)/Ryan Gomes (Waterbury, CT)
C Charlie Villanueva (Queens, NY)
BG Analysis: This team has good talent all around with a lot of versatility and strong defense but no pg. So I could see this team using odom as their Point-Forward to bring up the ball. Gordon is most definitely a pure 2, always looking for his shot so he wouldn’t work as the 1. This team has good shooters slashers and every player can create their own shot so this would be an effective team but their 3pt game outside of Gordon is a little suspect because Villanueva, artest and odom are inconsistent from 3.
My Take: I’d take Brand at center, Gomes at PF, bring Charlie V off the bench and hope the defense could hold up.”

View all teams. Who do you think is the best? And what about Skip Alston?

I’m very glad you guys picked this pst up that my friend Alex and I worked hard on compiling the data on. I’m an avid reader of this blog and keep up the good work. So what do you guys think about our favorite team?

That local Bobcats team is scary good followed by Chicago and Washington:

    Bobcats:
    PG Chris Paul (Clemmons, NC)
    SG Ray Allen (Dalzell, SC)
    SF Josh Howard (Winston-Salem, NC)
PF Antawn Jamison (Charlotte, NC)/David West (Garner, NC)
    C Kevin Garnett (Mauldin, SC)

    Bulls:
    PG Derrick Rose (Chicago, IL)
SG Dwyane Wade (Oak Lawn, IL)
SF Andre Iguodala (Springfield, IL)/Wilson Chandler (Benton Harbor, MI)
PF Corey Maggette (Oak Park, IL)
C Eddy Curry (South Holland, IL)

    Wizards:
    PG Allen Iverson (Hampton, VA)
    SG Jeff Green (Hyattsville, MD)
    SF Carmelo Anthony (Towson, MD)
PF Kevin Durant (Rockville, MD)/Michael Beasley (Prince George’s County, MD)

Oh yeah, and as for our hometown heros…. as much as I dislike Marbury he’s got to be your point (assuming these players are in their prime). Gotta add Alston and Noah to your bench too.

PG Stephon Marbury (Coney Island, NY)/Rafer Alston (Queens, NY)
SG Ben Gordon (Mount Vernon, NY)
    SF Ron Artest (Queens, NY)
PF Lamar Odom (South Jamaica, NY)/Charlie Villanueva (Queens, NY)
C Elton Brand (Peekskill, NY)/Joakim Noah (New York, NY)

That’s my NY team and it’s definitely a contender.

Tommy you must have a real love for David Lee to overlook that North Carolina team… I dont see how any team with Lee, Zach, and Oden hold a candle to a team that has all-stars at every position… On another note, Interestingly enough 4 of the 5 New York players are free agents this summer… I’m hoping we get 1 of them preferably Odom… He is made for Mike Dan’s system… And would pose nothing but match up problems at the Center spot…

I like Odom a lot too. I also love Artest.

I agree with Glaps, but I also like the Hornets and Sixers.

    Hornets:
    PG Chris Duhon (Slidell, LA)
SG Monta Ellis (Jackson, MS)/Mo Williams (Jackson, MS)
SF Danny Granger (New Orleans, LA)
PF Tyrus Thomas (Baton Rogue, LA)
    C Al Jefferson (Prentiss, MS)

    Sixers:
    PG Jameer Nelson (Chester, PA)
    SG Kobe Bryant (Ardmore, PA)
    SF Rip Hamilton (Coatesville, PA)
PF John Salmons (Plymouth Meeting, PA)/Hakim Warrick (Wynnewood, PA)
    C Rasheed Wallace (Philadelphia, PA)

By the way, major props to the makers of this list. This is fantastic work! I love the effort.

  • Where2010Happens

Remember when Myles said Drew Gooden was as good as Odom and was a great pickup for the Spurs. He was spot on!

  • CircleLimit4

    Very cool list.

I’m all about grabbing Gordon or CVill this summer.

Speaking of Artest did anyone see his interview with Craig Sager on TNT last night? Said Brandon Roy is the best player he’s even played against, even better than Kobe, besides some kid on the playground in Queens. Also went on to say Barkely was overrated which Kenny, Ernie, and C Webb had a good laugh about. The guy is insane, but I would still love him on the Knicks.

This is something my friend and I have been discussing for years in regards to the all NY team. If we get to go with guys in their primes, but only choosing modern era (90′s and after), then Marbury has to be there at the 1.

Otherwise I would definitely put Skip in there and move Charlie V to the bench. And lets not forget Wally World off the bench as a 3-point specialist

That team would be unbelievable, not sure how they would mesh though. Too bad this doesn’t work for St. John’s basketball.
