TKB.tv: Givony Talks Draft

by Tommy Dee on May 27th, 2009 at 9:16 am

Our thanks to Jonathan Givony who has done an outstanding job building draftexpress into one of the most informative prospect websites around. The guy has been all over Europe as well as in the trenches of many workouts and has the best information around.

He is hearing that the Knicks do have an interest in Tyreke Evans should he be there at 8, which doesn’t seem likely at this point.

Great job Tommy, these guys are serious. I don’t know if the word “fix” was the right choice though, you know what I’m talking about. Anyways, great job.

Right now I have 1. Tyreke Evans 2. Stephen Curry 3. Jrue Holiday. These prospects are the ones that I want to see in blue and orange. Obviously I like James Harden but we need a point guard who’s able to get buckets – Curry and Evans fit the bill (and I put them above Ricky Rubio).

If Tyreke Evans develops a legit jumpshot he’ll be a monster, and he reportedly has great work ethic (Givony mentionned it). Allan Houston wouldn’t be a bad coach from that perspective.

    So Mucha,

Rubio is fourth on your Point guard list but second overall?

personally as far as PGs go my depth list is Rubio, Holiday, Curry, Maynor, Jennings, Flynn

I just dont see Ty Evans as a Point. Seems way too ball dominant. reminds me of Jamal Crawford.

  • BiggieSmalls

If Tyreke Evans develops a legit jumpshot he’ll be a monster

then what would Rubio be with a “legit jumpshot”?

  • Mucha

Because Tyreke Evans already has a great ability to get in the paint and finish indide. If you get a 6’6 point guard with a huge wingspan, a strong body, the ability to get in the paint and shoot from outside, man…

  • Mucha

Rubio may be the second best prospect in the draft but I don’t know if he’s a great fit – or if we’re in a position to be patient. We need a player who’s able to get buckets.

Anyways a point guard has to have the ball in his hands – I don’t understand your “ball dominant” argument.

    For me

    1) Holiday
    2) Curry
    3) Evans

And I admit Mucha, that I may be weighing too much on the incident at American Christian, but I will say if we take Evans ahead of the other two, I’d be shocked.

  • Mucha

It would be surprising… but the most exiting/interesting (risky?) pick in a long time. I can understand your doubts though.

  • BiggieSmalls

Ricky is 6’4 with a long wing span.

And he gets inside for buckets justa s good as anyone — against pro level players many years older in Europe

Ill wait for the Chicago numbers to come out to continue the physical debate.

But my point is how can Evans develop a jump shot with a little help from H2O and Ricky cant?

  • Mucha

I never said “Ricky can’t develop a jumpshot”, never. What I’m saying is, Tyreke Evans already has a strong/athletic body and he’ll find a way to get buckets inside because – physically – he’s ready and he’s skilled from that standpoint.

Im promoting Tyreke Evans fully. Go Ty Evans!!! Guys Look at it this way if Ty doesn’t work out at Point He Will Be A Excellent 2 Guard.
