Gilbert Has Serious Reason to Worry
Courtesy of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
“…Gilbert was unsurprisingly asked about the future of LeBron James in Cleveland and asked to comment about the situation for nervous fans.
“You think you’re nervous,” replied Gilbert jokingly.
But then he turned serious and said, “We feel very confident that this franchise and the direction we’re going, the things we’re doing, will make it the best place to play basketball for our current players, LeBron James, future players or anybody else. That’s all we can do — try to create the best environment, the best culture, create a team that has the best chances of ultimately winning an NBA championship — or more.
“We’re doing that. I feel very, very good about that.”
He declined to say whether he expected James to sign an extension this summer…”
Seriously, can someone come up with a deal that Danny Ferry can make to bring a star player in there this summer? Feel free to drop them in below.
Are they going to wait until next year to bring in that 1A player and if so, who would that be? You think a player is going to sign in Cleveland, or at least wish to be traded, if they are unsure of Lebron’s future? They need to win in 2010. Period.
Anyone realize this may be a major factor when the best they almost came up with in terms of making a big deal was Shaq?
Ferry has to make a huge move this summer and he has limited assets other than a few expirings. But he has a bad pick and I’d doubt there are any teams in the East looking to help the Cavs win.
In other words, someone get Mr. Gilbert a cocktail.
