Who is Rodrigue Beaubois?

Note: According to his agent Bill McCandless, up to six NBA teams have offered Beaubois a promise in the second round…

I’m not as in tuned to the Euro game as much as I should be, which is another reason Givoney is such a tremendous asset.

So who is Rodrigue Beaubois? He’s a prospect, from what I’m hearing, who’s REALLY on the Knicks radar.

Alvino sends me a note about this dude Beaubois the other day, who is clearly one of the most athletic players  in Europe, so I start to dig and have heard that Beaubois a player that they are really interested to see work. They are said to be extremely disappointed that Brandon Jennings, who Givoney says the Knicks wanted to see extensively, was a no show. Givoney has Beaubois currently as the 30th pick to the Cavs.

Anyway back to Rodrigue, who is a point guard prospect.

…In the second game, Rodrigue Beaubois showed off the incredible strengths he brings to the table as an NBA prospect—particularly his incredible physical tools, which came in really handy in transition. His first performance was somewhat uneven—on one hand he’s clearly the most athletic player at this camp, but he’s still figuring out how to fully utilize his natural tools, especially in terms of making good decisions and getting others involved. No other draft-eligible player in this camp shares his potential, though. He hurt his wrist and is in question for day two…”

For me, you have to love the long wingspan. A guard with long arms can get shots off against taller defenders, but also reek havoc laterally on defense. Ever try to cross a guy with long arms? Not a good idea.

What had me at hello? Check out 1:41 when he gets “over” the screen, gets back into position, contests and uses those long arms to block a shot.

Wow. I’ve been trying to teach high school kids that for several years now, and we all know how brutal the Knicks were in getting over screens early in the year.

I have to say, having heard about Walsh definitively acquiring another pick, this guy is in play to wear a Knicks jersey. I wonder if they bring in another guard and stay at 8…

Man, this is going to be a great draft…

He’s an athletic freak, 6’1″ in his socks with a 6’10″ wingspan, 39″ vertical (only Flynn tested better) and finished 3rd in the lane agility. Givony commented on his work ethic, that 2 years ago, he could dribble or shoot and now he could do them both well. He appears to be a kid that could blossom into a Rondo-style PG, a strong ball-hawk that can get into the lane and run the offense. Only knock on him is that he needs to get a bit stronger, but he’s fine for a 21 y.o.

I’d grab this kid in a heartbeat, he’s moving up on some mocks and could be a bottom-of-the-first pick. I’m pretty sure that one of the teams in the 25-30 slot will sell a pick to us.

    His stroke looks deadly.

Tony Parker and Rajon Rondo had a baby, and his name is Rodrique Beaubois.

No way this guy slips to 2nd round, wouldnt be surprised to see a team like Atlanta take him at 19

  • Chris Alvino

His athleticism looks incredible. 6’10 wingspan on a guy 6’1 is incredible. Even if he stayed on the defensive end all game he might be worth it.

I;m excited. You can see this player falling to the end of the 1st, early second because you’d have to think teams would take Maynor, Mills, Lawson.Collison etc before. This is a really deep PG draft.

he could be there for us later. But we can’t put the cart before the horse. Obtain the pick, and select the right player at 8…

How Jennings would decide to skip this camp is beyond me. I meant to write an article on that a few days ago, but I am not totally sure why he skipped. Injury? Scared? Guarantee? If he slips from the top 10, then his missing the combine and the Euro camp will be big reasons.

  • Chris Alvino

Tommy is absolutely right here. We have to get this later pick before we can select a guy.

I have never seen this guy play outside of his youtube clip. His combine numbers are incredible. While the lane agility and sprinting numbers are not as important to me because in my mind, you can be quick, but on the court you have to play quick. Without seeing him play, I do not know if he plays quick. But those long arms are eye catching. He doesn’t just have long arms. He has freakishly long arms. Talk about a guy that can block out passing lanes.

i wrote that yesterday. Jennings looks like guarantee. he’s skipping camps, not working out with teams et cetera.

JEEZUZ!all of these trade and draft possibilities are making my head swim!i im so pumped up for all of this ,i dont evn know who i want anymore.guess ill just sit back, and wait n see…btw beaubois looks awesome

  • cragganmor

oops, meant that he could NOT dribble or shoot 2 years ago…

i wonder which team it is..gotta believe its a top 10, if not a top 7 if he isn’t doing anything to help his draft status. by process of elimination my best guess would be minnesota at 6 or gs at 7. very interesting, would like to know more about this situation.

Do you know that the 6 promises that you linked to is from 2 years ago lol. Anyway I like Beaubois as a late first, early second. I definitely buy a pick and draft him. Agree with the Rondo comparison.
Also if Jennings is at 8, i draft him and i am very happy. He didn’t go to the combine because i think he was still part of his euro team. He didn’t go to Treviso because the only other first round prospects are Mills and Beaubois, who are late first, so his thinking may have been that he would not have gained much stock. I do think there is the possibility that he has a promise from someone. If Jennings went to college, he would have been top 4 lock IMO, so the fact that some people may have not seen him has played into the knicks hands as it has allowed such a good prospect to fall to where we pick, that would normally not be available at #8. I would definitely pick him.
