Shaq To Cleveland?

by Myles A. Mills on June 16th, 2009 at 1:25 pm

It seems as though Shaq would welcome a trade to the Cavaliers, and RealGM has reported he has a few demands, one of which should catch a Knick fan’s eye.

“O’Neal reportedly has some demands. He would like a two-year contract extension, and assurance that James will remain with the Cavaliers for at least the next three seasons.”

The next three seasons?  Would Lebron really decide his future in Cleveland a year early for a chance at a 37 year old center in his 16th year who talks too much and needs an offense to run through him to be successful.  Having Shaq would give Cleveland two of the most powerful players in the league, but I highly doubt Lebron would be willing to give a guarantee that he would be in Cleveland the next three years.  Despite an all-star season, Shaq did only play 30 minutes a night, and his 18 and 8 averages came with his team missing the playoffs.  These rumors initially came up at the deadline, and TKB reported that the deal was Sasha Pavlovic and Ben Wallace, purely a salary dump.  For those two, Shaquille is a steal, but the demands he has are a bit outrageous.  Two year contract extension?  Until he’s 40?  And he would probably want $15 million per for both of those years.  I’m just saying, the idea of ending his career with Lebron James and possibly following up Kobe’s fourth with his fifth should be fulfilling enough for Shaq.

I just can’t imagine Shaq living in Cleveland for 3 years..

  • KBT1615

I just wanted Shaq less somehow.

  • Chris Alvino

I would take Shaq, but only for spare parts. And any extension would have to be at a major discount. Less than 10 MM per season.

  • DanL

Shaq’s not in a position to be making demands.

just try to dump some contracts and then go for Josh Smith and Dr.Dre. And Im praying we get someone like Danny Green in the second round to help our bench and defense. And I honestly love the players im rooting for to have passion for their team soooooo.
This Lineup makes you happy admit it.

    Flynn or Rubio/ Duhon
    Ill Will/ Green
    Gallo/ Q
    Josh Smith/ Al
    Dr.Dre/ Curry or Gortat

    Playoff Quality.

Cleveland needs to stop bringing in aging players that are past their prime. They’re not going to win a championship by surrounding Lebron James with players past their prime like Ben Wallace, Wally Szerbiack, Z Illgauskas, and Joe Smith. Lebron is good but he can’t carry a team to a title himself. Ask Kobe and MJ…it wasn’t until they got a good supporting cast that they were able to win it. Clevelands biggest mistake was putting has-beens around Lebron when he first came into the league. They should’ve put young talent around him that can develop with Lebron.
Now they want to add Shaq? How much is that really going to help? He’s going to be 38 next year. What else is next for Cleveland, sign some more old guys…maybe they can bring in Bill Russell for a 10 day.
Cleveland has their work cut out for them, they really should go after Josh Smith if he’s available.

You’re doing a good job Myles but Realgm is not a “source”, they only provide links. ESPN is the source in that case. Peace.

  • Chris Alvino

I think the only chance at Josh Smith is if Curry can be dealt.

I liek Smith. He is very tenacious and his contract is not as bad as I originally thought. During the 2010-11, Smith is only set to make 11.6 MM. That is not awful.

Still Curry has to be dealt.

let SHAQ go to cleveland, and let that jackass LEBRON stay in cleveland so that the KNICKS can concentrate on building a winning team without worrying how its gonna affect LEBRON JAMES

i would NEVER give shaq a 2 year deal however with the exception of patrick ewing, the big fella would be the BEST mentor for the big guy…… he would clearly help us by hopefully improving curry to the point were he has atleast some trade value or he becomes the center he has the potential to be. for one year…the big fella is a must.

We get that you’re proud of your DeAndre Jordan nickname but has he even been on any trading block? I would assume Kaman or Camby are on the block, not their young developing talent.

  • CircleLimit4

If Kerr has half a brain at all it will take more than expiring Pav and Big Ben contracts to give up Shaq.

  • KBT1615

no but i like dreaming and that nickname.
