How about the Kings?

by Tommy Dee on June 20th, 2009 at 8:06 pm

Everyone is talking about the Washington Wizards and 5, how about the idea of moving up to the Kings at 4. They apparently love Jonny Flynn.

Sam Amick, who does a bang up job for the Sac Bee’s Kings Blog, gives some insight as to where the prospects including Flynn and Ricky Rubio sit in the eyes of Kings brass.

“…While Rubio remains high on the Kings’ board, it is believed the in-house opinions vary greatly. Syracuse point guard Jonny Flynn has many fans in the team’s scouting department and front office, and Memphis’ Tyreke Evans will have another chance to establish his position as he has a second Kings workout Sunday.

He will be joined by a potential dark horse in the race, as Davidson guard Stephen Curry is already gaining ground in the Kings’ conversation and could greatly improve his chances with a good showing. Curry, who has drawn comparisons to former Kings point guard Mike Bibby, averaged 28.6 points per game in his junior season while shooting 45.4 percent overall and 38.7 percent from three-point range…”

Apparently, the Knicks and Kings were close to a deal last deadline, which would have sent Nate Robinson and Jared Jefferies to Sac Town for Kenny Thomas’s contract. The Kings were said to want Nate because he is a fan favorite. But as we know, Nate can’t be moved in a deal until July and if they want Flynn, do they really want Nate too?

If the team is enthralled with Flynn, do they risk moving down to 8 as means to shed contract and still have the chance to land the Syracuse guard? Flynn at 4 would be too high in my opinion when you can get him a few spots down, but it’s a giant risk. Hey, the Maloof’s do own hotels with casinos.

Let’s assume that the Grizz take Thabeet and the Thunder take James Harden (or Rubio), would the Kings take Curry (or Rubio)  and then work out a deal with the Knicks if Flynn fell to 8? Let’s face it, Rubio is not going to the Grizz or the Thunder.

Memphis: Thabeet
Thunder: Harden
Kings: Curry (or Rubio)
Wizards: Harden Holiday
Wolves: Evans
Warriors: Hill, Jennings
Knicks: Flynn

I think this is a possibility, but the safest way to get Rubio is to move up to 2 to block any other team from moving up, although who else IS going to move up for Rubio?

Either way, the Kings could be a great target as well.

So many moving parts…discuss.

If you think about it.. Ricky showed up in Sacto.. Stayed at the Empire Suites and other than meeting with the management didnt do much else.

He supposedly got “sick” and couldnt meet with the Maloofs or do a “light” work out.

My sense is he could not wait to get out of there.

Memphis management has some steel balls and may just call Ricky’s bluff. I thnk they’d rather home boy Ty Evans to build up their local interest.

The media in Sacto is all gaga over Rubio but let’s face it.. Ricky didnt look too enamoured with suburban Cali and their “river” in the team video.

DW is playing coy saying he is good to goat 8.. big sign he is fixing to move up and grab Ricky.. It is ODB at his finest.

Sit back and watch. Its gonna be interesting.

Well Our only obstacle now is basically Washington for Rubio but guys if we don’t get him I wold be very Happy with Brandon Jennings. Flynn might go to sacto or Golden State.

  • KBT1615

But I just realized how small Brandon was he weighs less than Curry and less than Flynn.

    Latest on Jennings…ouch

In New Jersey, after avoiding the Nets for weeks, Brandon Jennings is expected to join a group for a workout Saturday. The Star-Ledger reports the reason for the about-face is, as one scout said, that Jennings is “sliding like a five-year-old in the park.” More evidence of a fall for Jennings comes from Phoenix, where The Arizona Republic reports Jennings will work out for the Suns, who hold the 14th pick.

  • KBT1615

Its not really a slide is it? Its more of a stock rise of the other PG’s but if we can get Ty Evans to be a starting PG hey Im all for him.

  • bob go knicks

TOMMY, you have harden listed twice!

  • bob go knicks

hey biggie, what would DONNIE WALSH say if he really was good to go at 8,”i’m trading up to pick rubio”? as i remember he was real coy last year ,and then…..TA DA he stayed where he was,and picked GALLO,and i dont think RICKY RUBIO flew all the way to california to fake being sick…JEEZ,everyone on this site just think ,”WHATEVER THE KNICKS WANT,THE OTHER TEAMS WILL JUST BOW DOWN AT THE WAIST AND SAY”HERE DONNIE ,TAKE WHAT YOU WANTFROM US,AND WE WILL TAKE BACK ALL OF YOUR OVERPAID OR OVERATED GARBAGE.if you were any of the other teams, would you take WILSON CHANDLER for RICKY RUBIO?

  • KBT1615

  • bob go knicks

HES 6’9″ in his bare feet,i measured him myself!

  • KBT1615

Does he play BBALL IN HIS BARE FEET?

  • KBT1615

Thats Exactly why you aren’t a fan.

  • bob go knicks

YAHOO/ANSWERS just called…..theyre looking all over for you

  • KBT1615

You said Ill Will isn’t on his way to being an all star. So either your dumb, blind or not a knick fan..Pick one.

  • bob go knicks

WILSON CHANDLER will never be an all-star,and im not the only one who thinks this.ASK MUCHA

  • KBT1615

please If Trevor Ariza looks like a solid player with Lakers then ILL WILL WOULD WITH OUT A DOUBT BE A ALL STAR WITH A TEAM WITH A STAR.

  • bob go knicks

READ “TKB minute” 5 spots underneath here, there are pleany of fans who feel CHANDLER will not be an all-star

  • bob go knicks

what does ARIZA have to do with this? the lakers would never trade ARIZA str8 up for CHANDLER! YOU HAVE GOT TO BE UNDER 18 YEARS OLD!

  • KBT1615

Wow guy what are you talking about I never said trade for Ariza and Ill Will is better than Ariza anyways.
Like do you read or just skim through sentences?

  • BiggieSmalls

if Donnie knew he could get his man at 8 he might give the impression that the draft was weak or that he was trading down. I dont think he would ever say he was going after a SPECIFIC person. He is the master of misdirection.

Last year the buzz was he wanted Westbrook IIRC and sent Isaih the pariah to Italy to check our Gallo as a back up option.. Talk about a feint. Send the person everyone thinks you’ll never listen to to look at the player
    you eventually pick.

I dont thing Rubio flew to Sacto to fake being sick. But he clearly was not enamoured with the place. He never left the hotel, looked like he was trying to say all the righ tthings to the local media (i saw the river) and then came down with an illness before meeting with the owners. Sounds suspicious.

Everyone knows Rubio wants a big market and preferably on the east coast for logistical reasons. He is not working out for ANY teams and has only done a cursory interview with Sacto.

Teams like Memphis and Sacto NEED to get some identity while maintaining a budget and reducing risk. Im not saying Chandler is an all star or will ever be.. If you read my posts you’ll know that. But he IS a known quantity at 21 years old and HAS a reasonable contract. If he stayed in school he would likely be a top 5 pick this year. AND he is signed reasonably for a few years. The Knicks can use their ability to swallow money and give up expiring deals to get what they want. That is part of being a team in a big market.

lets embrace that advantage. Memphis should be looking for someone like Ty Evans — a Memphis product who will generate buzz. IF they can get him AND not pay #2 overall money why wouldnt they add a player like Chandler to their roster? Sounds reasonable.

  • BiggieSmalls

Draft express has his official pre draft measurements

    http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Joakim-Noah-589/

6-10.5 in bare feet and 7 foot in shoes.

  • Chris Alvino

Well bob, I cannot argue with you if you measured him yourself… haha. I actually believe you on that.

I initially saw what Biggie had posted there on Noah and I believe it. Ty Thomas is listed as 6’9. Noah is clearly taller than him. Not a big deal though.

  • J-Knick

How long ago ? when he was17 ?

    Men’s growth finish at 24 …

  • KBT1615

OK So Now that we have FOUR Sites proving Bob wrong I think the 8th pick for Noah and The Bulls pick is very fair. Especially if Curry, and Flynn are gone.

  • italian stallion

The problem with Jennings is his attitude. Teams are learning to avoid problem personalities and “me first” players no matter how much talent they have. Those kinds of guys rarely if ever change because most lack the capacity to do so. They don’t even understand what’s wrong.

  • KBT1615

Jennings likes to pass what are you talking about.
