Yahoo: Wolves Trump Knicks

By Tommy Dee on Jun 23, 2009, 7:35 pm

Apparently all you Wilson Chandler fans can rest easy according to Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski:

“…The Washington Wizards have acquired Minnesota Timberwolves guards Randy Foye and Mike Miller for Etan Thomas, Oleksiy Pecherov and Darius Songaila and the fifth pick in Thursday’s NBA draft, a league executive with knowledge of the deal told Yahoo! Sports…”

We’re working on confirmation…

Update: This deal has not been sent to the league yet, but if it’s done that gives the Wolves 4 first round picks. Remember, Kahn learned his craft under Donnie Walsh in Indiana…

Minnesota pres Glen Taylor on Kahn:

“…“This is a milestone decision for our franchise and I couldn’t be more excited by our choice,” Taylor said. “David has studied under one of the most storied basketball minds in the league in Donnie Walsh and has clearly demonstrated that he has the intelligence, creativity, leadership and passion to take our team to the next level…”

Wow. Good deal for the Wizards. I guess those pipe dreams of two top 10 picks have been shot.

That gives the Wolves 4 first rounders this year. They will not keep all of those.

The only reason I’m cringing… not cause the KNicks “missed out.” Because Thursday is going to be one long convoluted day full of deals

Tommy if you are wondering why it hasn’t became official because the Wiz are waiting until tomorrow to go through with it.
But what are the Wolves going to do with the 4th and 5th? two point guards?

They would hope for Thabeet and either Curry or Evans. I would not be shocked to see them trade up for Rubio, but that would be a ton to give up for an unproven player. That would essentially be 2 top 10 picks, Foye and Miler for Rubio.

It won’t be final until Wednesday I think they go Hill and Curry or trade up for Rubio but they may trade down too but I don’t know.

I agree Hill, Curry, and I can see them getting T-Will later in the draft. Team those guys up with Jefferson, and things start to look optimistic in Minne.

I take this back, they don’t need Hill (Love) but Curry and Tyreke or Rubio and Tyreke would appear to be there for the taking.

bro i’m almost positive it came down to chandler and 8 for 5. no way i do that. the rest of the league isn’t up on chandler yet. so what that doesn’t mean we have to sell him low. he’s going to be a stud.

i wouldnt do the 8 AND Chandler either if I was Donnie.

But Hughes and Chandler sounds like a better package than Foye/Miller

My guess is that Donnie didn’t want to give up Chandler but it wouldn’t surprise me if Washington just liked Foye and Miller more.

I wonder if this came down to the Knicks not wanting to take Songalia’s $4mil in 2010

As long as we end up with Ty Evans or Steph Curry Im good.
Flynn and Jennings will be two others I accept.

there is no friggn way we end up with CURRY or EVANS if we just have pick#8 both these guys will be gone

  11. Chris Alvino
    Jun 23, 2009, 8:48 pm at 8:48 pm #

Perhaps Songalia was a hold up. That fifth pick better produce for Minny, because they gave up a bunch to get it, IMO. Foye is a good guard that will be better suited playing next to Gil than as a starting PG. Miller had a rough year last year. Bad situation for him. He will re-emerge next season. Assuming they could not get a mega-star for that 5th pick, good deal for the Wizards. They cleared away dead weight on their roster while adding a 6th man and a starting SG.

actually katz is reporting they’re going to stay put.

so do they take evans and curry? or hill and curry?

    • JRSlim
      Jun 23, 2009, 9:27 pm at 9:27 pm #

Hill makes no sense. I say they take Evans and Curry/Holliday. Or maybe they take Evans and DeRozan. I say they come away with a new backcourt here.

    Jun 23, 2009, 8:49 pm at 8:49 pm #

I don’t know if they will trade 5 and 6 for 2. That is a ton to give up for Rubio. Maybe 5 and 18, but if they deal 5 and 6, they better make sure that Rubio is the real deal.

    • BiggieSmalls
      Jun 23, 2009, 9:21 pm at 9:21 pm #

      5 and 18 sounds right.
THis way Mem gets Evans. Sacto probably takes Curry and we are left with the 4th PG off the board at best.

      Welcome to NY Jrue.

      Jun 24, 2009, 1:09 am at 1:09 am #

if rubio turns out to be a great point guard its not even close to a ton,and the point of all of this is to get better.in reality the wolves really gave up FOYE for RUBIO (MILLER is washed up and the rest is just window dressing)plus minny still has 2 more first rounders

  14. NJirish7
    Jun 23, 2009, 8:52 pm at 8:52 pm #

I’m sure they are going with Hill as one of the picks. Do they need a PG though with Arenas there?

Minny would probably go Evans and Curry if they keep the picks if they trade it I see Evans and Hill to Memphis. I think we gotta go Jennings at 8 over Holiday.

Minnesota Timberwolves VS Oklahoma City Thunder in 2016 Western Conference Finals…

    I like what the T’Wolves are doing…
Al Jefferson, Kevin Love, and now 2 other early young prospects

imagine If the Kings pass on Rubio AND Evans…

    AND..
Am i the only one that sees Larry Hughes and Wilson Chandler better options than Foye and Miller…?

    • BiggieSmalls
      Jun 23, 2009, 9:22 pm at 9:22 pm #

nope.. I think that would have been a better deal for DC..

      Guess Ernie thought otherwise.

  17. BiggieSmalls
    Jun 23, 2009, 9:24 pm at 9:24 pm #

Donnie should have been more agressive.

Chad Ford says the Knicks are the biggest losers in this because they needed to move up and get Curry or a shot at Rubio.. Now we get sloppy fourths.

      you listen to ESPN?
and this still doesnt change the fact that Sacto likes Flynn more and now Sacto wants Ty and Steph.
So our only comp now is Golden State lets just hope they like jennings more or Jordan Hill.

    Jun 23, 2009, 9:29 pm at 9:29 pm #

Wolves now have 7 pick…4 in the first

Well, with Kahn being a student of Walsh, maybe he’ll “donate” 1 of his 4 first rounds pick, to us..especially if we draft Hill at 8..
    Hill & Teague?
    Hill & Lawson?
    Hill & Maynor?

We can still have SOMETHING to be positive about..maybe

    • Bart
      Jun 23, 2009, 10:02 pm at 10:02 pm #

I go Hill and Maynor I think he will easily be one of the best PGs outta this draft.

  19. BMan
    Jun 23, 2009, 9:35 pm at 9:35 pm #

I would go for Evans and Curry- Why pick Hill if you are building on Love and Jefferson? Either Love or Hill would have to come off the bench- why trade up for a bench player (Unless you want the shot blocking Thabeet can offer.)? They will have a lot of options, and potentially they will end up being able to choose from everyone not named Blake Griffin, but most likely they will go PG + SG.

The Knicks are not going to take Jennings over Holiday at 8. They would have brought both of them in to face-off if they were considering Jennings. We should be able to choose from some combination of Holiday, Flynn, DeRozan, or Hill. The fact that we brought Holiday in shows that we will take him, unless Hill also drops.

If we take Hill we really need to get Minny’s 18th, to pick up a guy like Maynor or Collison, IMO, .and if someone we really like is around later, why not look at buying their 28th pick also.

Kahn beat Walsh to the 5th, he can at least throw Donnie some crumbs.

    Jun 23, 2009, 9:40 pm at 9:40 pm #

I dont see Minny drafting Hill..
    They have Love and Jefferson
and yeah, they could use some depth..
but u dont use a 5th or 6th pick to help your depth…no matter how weak

They’ll probably aquire Mullens with one of ther later picks..if they dont trade them

No team in the top 6 will want Hill imo, Warriors maybe, and if hes there at 8..hes all ours

They draft Hill becasue Jefferson was traded to the Spurs earlier today…

With that said… Knick fans brace yourself as Holiday seems to be the guy Donnie is set on drafting..

        What?

        The Bucks traded Jefferson..Richard Jefferson
The Jefferson on the Wolves is Al Jefferson..
        hes still there

The Spurs trade is compleely irrelevant to this trade

    SACRAMENTO DEAL :

Wilson Chandler plus the 8th pick (Johnny Flynn) for the 4th pick (Tyreke Evans, Stephen Curry or Ricky Rubio).

They Kings fill the only voids they had in their starting lineup (PG, SG) and they get the player they wanted (Flynn).

    Thoughts?

While nothing is a lock but the first pick (and probably the list of the top 7 players chosen) some wildcards for the Knicks remain:

The Memphis #2 pick its still in play. (Thabeet should go here but will he be traded?)
Who takes Rubio? (He didn’t make himself very available to GMs, he has a list of places he doesn’t want to play and he has to build mid range/3pt skills game from scratch).
Lastly which pg does Donnie favor? (Flynn, Holiday, Jennings, Lawson)

NY just got butchered. Wizards pick now gone and we will end up with what ever is available unless Donnie goes to work and gets that #2 pick . I’m very disappointed and now think that we will be in a very awkward position to even make the post season

    Look at

Wizards . They are a lock for the post season , Boston, Philly , Bulls , Cavs , Magic and I wont be surprised to see Detroit make a blockbuster or big signing also putting them in the post season ( Boozer ) . That leaves 2 spots . Good luck .

Like I said ….. NY got butchered by not making a move earlier. None of the guys they like will be there at 8. Rubio,Curry,Holiday,Flynn,Hill, Evans BYE BYE. Maybe by luck but look at Minny now with all their picks. I expect them to take Rubio & Curry

We get Marbury part 2 in Jennings . A guy with a big mouth and no game to back it up.

Sorry but really depressed by all this

Donnie get busy .Dont wait or you will be the one with people saying “ya waited to long”
