Let’s talk bigs

With reports that darko may REALLY be coming to the Knicks this time, (and let’s face it, it’s for Q then you make it happen) and the fact that the Clippers apparently will be shopping some bigs, the Knicks may be bolstering their front line.

We said it at the Draft Lottery that Marcus Camby could be the option, and when you consider what the Clip Show gave up to get him, it makes sense that Walsh can get him on the cheap.

We know he was the target last year during the Z-Bo talks but was told he was unavailable, but now that he could be on the market expect Donnie to pounce.

If they add Darko, which we’ll see, and Camby, where does that leave David Lee?

I don’t beleive this will have any effect on David Lee. Darko & Camby are centers, not power forwards. Besides they are probably just one year rentals.

  • NYK Raider

I don’t really feel that getting Camby and Darko will affect D Lee. Let’s face it, D Lee is not a 5, he is a 4 that has been forced into playing the 5. Darko and Camby are both legitimate 5′s, the odd man out isn’t Lee, it’s Wilcox and Eddy. Granted Eddy will get some early playing time for value purposes, but once his value is high enough, he’s gone a la Z-Bo last year. Which means Wilcox will not be re-signed. I know Wilcox thinks his game “fits” our style, but with Darko, Camby and Eddie, he has no chance. D Lee would welcome all of this so he can play the 4, with a possibility of Wilson moving to the 2, Duhon (for now), Chandler, Gallinari, Lee, and Camby makes for an interesting and BIG lineup.

  • Magik_Trick

Darko, Camby, Gortat…ONE of these guys gotta be wearing orange & blue next season, right? (which that Darko-Q trade will probably happen)

Wonder what Clips want for Camby though…they got him for 2 2nd round picks..plus hes 35 now

And a better question is, where does this elave Eddy Curry? Will he get a chance to play and prove himself again? or is he racking up the DNPs by the bench?

  • Bruno

I doubt we get Darko AND Camby. It’s probably one or the other.

  • bigknicka

hey tommy how about using Lee in the summer for a sign and trade to get a solid shooting guard if we get jordan hill or we trade chandler for an earlier pick?
(Thats if we get darko and/or camby, because if jordan hill is there at 8 take him like the last tickle me elmo in Toy’s R Us)

  • bigknicka

Also what about al harrington and Gallo?

  • adam

it’ll probably depend on what it takes to snag camby. with qrich (one of our expiring contracts) gone, assuming the darko one goes through, i think someone else cud probably offer more for camby then what we potentially can. especially given that they dont want lee (via sign-and-trade), chandler/gallo are off-limits, we’re not giving up draft picks, and with baron and gordon they have no reason to take in nate (and pay him) via sign and trade. more likely, i see us taking darko, perhaps jordan hill if he falls to us and curry/rubio/evans/harden are off the board, and then making a move for a decent big guy or using some of our mle on someone like gortat or someone else. then we let the market determine whether or not lee stays and deal with it from there

  • KBT1615

We should get Camby and Darko so Darko could come in and let Marcus rest since he is in his 30′s.
Trade D Lee for a PG..a deal like Steve Blake and Outlaw.
    Draft Hill and Green.

    Blake
    Green
    Ill Will
    Hill
    Camby

  • gowrightgo1

I agree with you. The draft is like an arbitrary deadline but not the only day we can get improvement on this team.

We can target guys like Rudy Gay and Bayless and others to fill needs through trades after the draft.

I see the assets we currently have as guys like Chandler, Gallinari, Lee and Nate in sign and trades, Harrington and to a smaller extent Duhon, Qrich and of course the Mobley injury exception.

I’d like to trade up to get 2 picks in this draft, our 8 and 2-4 obviously. This assures us 2 excellent pieces to the puzzle with our choice of how to spend it.

But the key is not giving up too much now to move up.

  • row

I was thinking something similar, if we land Hill getting Camby or Darko would be pretty decent. I think there’s still room for Wilcox since I don’t see us keeping Lee (we need some depth).

I would still rather draft a PG at 28 over Green, but I guess it depends on who is available then.

CAMBY is 35 years old and fragile, even though it is tempting i think we shouldnt give in to the temptation to take him.on paper this all sounds good ,but when he is out rehabbing we are playing with a back-up

I dont usually disagree with u tommy dee, but im goin the other way on this one. I do not think we should bring back the camby man. even tho i like him as a player. He is not simply in his 30s. I think he is like 38. Thats super old in basketball as we all know. Plus the guy can not be counted on for more than 45 games a year. The last thing we need is an injury prone old player. He would bring a certain amount of expectation that would most likely not be fulfilled bc he will be hurt. (cough cough, all the mets)
I would much rather have a young gortat or darko. Someone we can bring along and consider as a front court option for years to come. There has to be 12 guys on this roster in 2010. Not lebron and 6 other guys running around him. So we need some ppl who are actually young and can play. Camby is a piece to a team with championship aspirations in the near future. Not the knicks.

  • bob go knicks

yes we should trade for a guy that the first thing you want is for him to rest…maybe we can find a pf with one leg

  • row

Agreed. Though what does Darko’s contract look like compared to Gortat’s potential deal? If it’s even close, you got to go with Gortat.

  • adam

a team that should move on camby is the wizards. maybe they use mike miller or mike james to do so, along with some sort of future drak pick. the wiz are trying to win now, and the clippers are building for the future with griffin. then the wiz can have a solid frontcourt with haywood coming off the bench to back up jamison/camby, or they can move haywood for another piece …we did hear that wanted larry hughes.

  • Chris Alvino

Gortat gets a multi-year deal. Milicic is a one year try out. Give me Darko.

  • row

I agree with that, but if Gortat is relatively cheap over those years (and it doesn’t hurt 2010 too much) then you might have to look at the slightly more proven player.

I don’t think he will be that cheap though thanks to the playoffs, so Darko may be the call anyways.

  • adam

if the wiz were smart, they’d look into this: clippers give camby to the wiz for mike miller and the wiz’s 2nd round draft pick. clips save 2 mil, get a 2nd rounder to help build, clear room up front for griffin, and get a piece off the bench. the wiz get a solid starting center, and make haywood expendable. they can keep haywood to make their frontcourt real solid, or trade him for, say larry hughes, and sign someone to come off the bench and backup the fragile camby (wilcox?)

  • Bart

Tommy what do you think about Lee for Bayless if we draft Hill.

  • bigknicka

if im trading Lee to portland the only person i want back is fernandez

  • Cheech

And if darko plays well then we have to resign him and hes gonna look for twice as much as gortat. if we sign gortat now and he plays well than he is under contract for a few more years. But i agree darko is better passer and maybe an even better shot blocker. but gortat is more athletic.

  • Cheech

No! bayless is a pretty good prospect but….well i guess its not that bad of a deal. but i dont think i would do that.

  • mrsiklawi

hahaha, hey bob nice one. i just registered to only to say thankyou for the laugh
