Draft Notes

Okay, my phones and emails are off the wall and haven’t stopped. Here’s what we’re hearing:

  • Sounds like possible destinations for David Lee could be Portland or Memphis, yes Memphis. We told you Portland had interest around the deadline, then heard recently they are focusing on Turkoglu, but a source tells me that if the Knicks don’t get close to what his agent deems as max value, expect a sign and trade to either. Chicago could have been a possibility, but there are way too many moving parts. Chicago doesn’t want to give up what the Knicks would want, and remember Ben Gordon is unrestricted.
  • The Knicks aren’t the only team in the area who have serious interest in Gerald Henderson. Kudos to Isola for digging to hear that Henderson is a possibility in NY, which I’ve heard two other people mention, and one who I really trust. You guys have heard Rubio and Jrue out of me…but you know I would have drafted Henderson in March.
  • The Nets have high interest in the Duke product and right now they rank him and Terence Williams about even. You can throw Tyler Hansbrough into the discussion as well. They will take Demar DeRozan if he falls but not before Jordan Hill if he falls. They are not targeting Brandon Jennings (neither are the Knicks despite reports), DeJuan Blair or James Johnson.
  • Speaking of Johnson, Golden State is all over him. Obviously, 7 is too early for the Wake product, but they are trying every means necessary to try and obtain another pick to get him. They think he’s a steal.

Also, Via Chris Broussard (12:45am)

“…The Cleveland Cavaliers and the Phoenix Suns have come to an agreement on a blockbuster trade that sends Shaquille O’Neal to Cleveland to team with LeBron James, according to sources.

The deal has been agreed to in principle and is expected to be finalized Thursday, according to sources.

Cleveland will send Ben Wallace and Sasha Pavlovic to Phoenix for the future Hall of Famer.

The trade gives the Cavs a player they’ve coveted since February. With center Zydrunas Ilgauskas starting to break down, adding Shaq to the roster gives them a dominant force in the middle. The Cavs were obviously unhappy with their ability to defend Dwight Howard in the playoffs and bringing Shaq into the fold should help.

I’m also told that Chris Kaman and Tyson Chandler are being shopped and could have new homes tomorrow…”

Could we add another Chandler? Can’t wait for tomorrow…

  • Bruno

Shaq deal is done according to ESPN.

  • Bart

Shaqs in CLEVELAND ITS Getting CRAZY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • barnaby8787

I don’t want tyson’s 11.5 mil contract…i would also hate to take gerald at 8 personally. In regard to memphis, what could they possibly give us via a sign and trade for lee. A future first rounder and filler? I don’t see them trading any of there current starting 5 and those 5 are the only legit players on there team at the moment.

  • barnaby8787

    Still can’t guard d12…

  • Bart

Look out for Amare and Nash to be moved next Phoenix is blowing it up.

What about Nash for Nate and Hughes

  • bob go knicks

wow!shaq just got traded to cavs guess they dont need eddy curry..am i late on this one ..i just got home from work

  • barnaby8787

That won’t work financially at all. Nate’s going to command about 6 or so and hughes is due about 11 or 12 i believe. Nash makes 7 or 8 a year. Plus, I feel like nate/hughes is way too much for nash anyways. I wouldn’t be surprised if nate and cap filler for nash worked. Nash only has one more year and phoenix is trying to get young, plus nate would still excel over there. In regards to Amare, I don’t think he’s going anywhere. He wanted to get trade when shaq was there because he wasn’t the featured player anymore. They appeased him by trading shaq, so now he could be phoenix’s star again.

So this is what desperation smells like….

Anyone hear if Lebron is staying for 3 years?

    Me either…

  • barnaby8787

I kind of feel like we should contact the mavs and try to do a eddy curry for stackhouse and shawne williams deal. Both could help off the bench and have expiring contracts after this year while the mavs get post help, which they desperately need.

  • Funk

Yao was just announced as out indefinitely due to I believe his foot not healing correctly. Get ready to ship Eddy Curry out there tomorrow along with Mobley’s contract for T-mac. I think Curry could do well out there playing 20-25 minutes per game backing up yao or just filling in for him until he gets healthy..

  • KBT1615

Why trade for Steve? He is excersing his ETO. And chandler’s contract runs out next year. But I like that Mike hasn’t given up on Darko though.

  • barnaby8787

Chandler’s contract doesn’t run out until 2011. He has an ETO next year but is making like 11.5 a year, so he won’t opt out.

  • KBT1615

Honestly Guys I think we are going to be very happy after tomorrows draft.
Cap Space for 2010 a shot blocker and some good picks is what I predict.

  • Bart

Chris Broussard said Amare has worn out his welcome and to look for him to moved he didn’t talk about Nash though.

I just threw Nash out there because who would he be playin with and yeah I meant Nate and filler I just threw Hughes out there.

  • Bart

    That would be the ish!

  • barnaby8787

Assuming chris is right, D-Lee, Nate, and Chandler for Amare and cap filler anybody?

  • Bart

If the Shaq deal Fell threw Ty Chandler would have been had so hes out there I doubt the Knicks go after him though they want Darko and his contract is atrocious.

  • barnaby8787

I feel like it would be great, but such a teasing concept on the surface. TMac will end up getting us really excited after we have a great start to the season and then he would get hurt and we’d go downhill and be typical crushed fans :( He’s never played a full season. Granted, i’d still take him over useless curry any day of the week.

  • Bart

Yeah Curry is useless the big one and his contract is awful so we get a motivated McGrady for 1 yr and get to FINALLY get rid of Eddy.

  • Bart

I don’t know if that’s enough it depends on what other teams offer but I do think he can be had. The Knicks roster could look extremely different in the next 24 hrs.

  • Jeff Cykiert

Tyson chandler making 12 mil in 10-11? no thanks.

  • bob go knicks

TOMMY,please dont say your going out on a limb on this one PLEASE! LOL

  • bigknicka

what about a sign and trade with Lee to a team like chicago for ty thomas or noah and sign birdman in the offseason (unless we get jordan hill then i would say use Lee and some expiring deals for portland to get rudy fernandez

  • barnaby8787

Lee will have a much bigger salary than ty thomas/noah, plus he holds a whole lot more value than both. And birdman is going back to denver.

  • KBT1615

    lol GOOD POINT.

  • IDunnoMyName

wow, Ford has Harden falling to us in his latest Mock. That would be absolutely awesome!

  • barnaby8787

There’s no way that OKC passes on him

  • IDunnoMyName

All the prognosticators (what a job that is, by the way) now have Rubio slotted to OKC. I think that would be a mistake – why piss off Russ “you trippin” Westbrook – and pass on Harden, who fills an obvious position of need (they also need a 5, but Thabeet is going to Memphis) and are stacked at every other position. Harden would be their perfect fit, but you never know.

  • paulempson

WOW…. no one talking about the fact that 9 teams are better than NY as it stands now…. Who here can deal with another losing season? We have no lottery pick …

    Boston
    Miami
    Atlanta
    Washington
    Philly
    Cavs
    Magic
    Bulls
    Detroit

We cares if we move Curry. No one is joining NY if we suck. T Mac had microfracture surgery. Look how long it took K Mart & Amare to get better and look at our infamous Mc Dyess trade. Besides he’s not suppose to be ready for action till after X Mas.

    This is lookin B L E A K

  • BiggieSmalls

So now Lee is looking for Close to max value.

What ever happened to taking a discount to stay in NYC?

    See ya in OKC chump.

  • Mucha

Paul Pierce and Brandon Roy unexpectedly slipped in 1998 and 2006, James Harden is the same type of player in my opinion – hopefully it’ll be the case again but I don’t see that happening. It would be amazing though…

Sacramento is the key now, if they draft Johnny Flynn then Ricky Rubio, Stephen Curry or Tyreke Evans will (should) be available at #8. If this Johnny Flynn talk is just a smokescreen then we’ll have to find a way to trade up.

  • Mucha

This draft would be so much easier had Willie Warrent declared…

  • clyde fan

Hopefully someone screws up ahead of us leaving us
    Curry/Evans/Hill.
But I would be glad to take Flynn.

I wish DW could buy a high 20′s pick then we could get a shot at Maynor/Lawson should we go big at 8(Hill).

  • Bruno

    Or Minny

  • Bruno

The idea would be to trade him. Rumors are for D.Lee in July.

  • Bruno

    Hill’s going 7.

  • Tcarda44

i cannot control my excitement. if they can get rid of currys salary i think adding chandler would be a good move. Just like someone said earlier, there are so many moving parts to all this it makes it impossible to figure out. Plus we are all hoping that everything happens tonight when in reality there will be alot of BIG moves in july. we will see…
