With the 8th Pick…

by Andrew Smith on June 25th, 2009 at 8:23 pm

YOUR New York Knicks have selected Jordan Hill, 6’10″ 235 lb. power forward from University of Arizona.

This was probably one of the scenarios that Walsh wanted to avoid, but it happened.

Poor kid got booed, but that’s part of the landscape I guess….

Now, let’s see if DW can get creative in a trade….

(Update 11:20) from Tommy Dee

Sorry fellas. Horrid Internet connection at the WaMu. The obvious fit would be Nate and Hill for Rubio. That’s the buzz  everyone was saying from where I was sitting, among the game’s best snoops, We all agreed that Rubio is destined for NY. Don’t you find it surprising that the guys who have been on the front end of the news leading up to the draft are already hearing that? These guys were buzzing.

Flynn and Rubio makes no sense. Rubio in Minny makes no sense. This story is far from over….

Kudos to my peeps, from Myles (who called the T-Will pick) to Alvino revving up the crowd with the TKB sign, to Kopleman and to Drew for moderating. You guys are the best. Pushing 80,000 page views in a day is no small feet.

But just as important is the gym rats…you guys rock. Hang in there and keep the faith. Worst case we have Hill and have the chance to get a great deal for David Lee. Best case Donnie makes the move to bring in the QB.

(Update 11:05 PM)

Chris Sheridan has the following at ESPN.com:

“Receiving some conflicting info on how hard the New York Knicks did or did not go in their efforts to acquire the No. 5 pick from Minnesota to draft Ricky Rubio.

One source insisted New York discussed sending Wilson Chandler and the No. 8 pick to Minny, while another source said the discussions never went that far. This much is clear: Both Rubio and Jonny Flynn are likely flummoxed by the Wolves taking them back-to-back at 5 and 6, and no one in the Garden expects the Wolves to end up keeping both of them.

Rubio’s comments made him sound fairly disappointed, but don’t expect the same type of prolonged public pouting out of Rubio that Yi Jianlian gave to the Milwaukee Bucks when they drafted him against his wishes two years ago.

Rubio does have a bit of leverage if he wants out of ‘Sota: He can return to Spain for another season and save himself several million dollars by not having to pay his $6 million buyout (Rubio’s Spanish club has reportedly offered to substantially reduce the buyout cost if Rubio returns for one more season), or he could stay in Spain for two more seasons, after which his buyout expires.

One source said the Knicks’ best chance at acquiring Rubio’s rights from Minnesota would be to get him through a sign-and-trade for one of their two restricted free agents, David Lee and Nate Robinson.”

(Update 10:53 PM)

HoopsHype Editor Jorge Sierra just tweeted a quote from Ricky Rubio’s father: ”We have to talk to the people in Minnesota and see what happens … We could be in Minnesota or somewhere else.”

Doesn’t sound too thrilled about the prospects of staying indoors for four months a year….

(Update 10:45 PM)

Interesting quote over at ZagsBlog from Mike D’Antoni on Hill:

“Our scouts had him rated as the second best player in the draft,” Knicks coach Mike D’Antoni said, according to the News. “I don’t want to get ahead of myself but I think he can be a really good player. He’s long. He can really run the floor. He’s got range and he can block shots.”

(Update 10:17 PM)

Toney Douglas…. that’s who DW had focused on for a while. I like the pick, but there’s no way we are done.

Wojanarowski is now reporting on Yahoo: “Timberwolves officials are thus far resisting the advances of the Knicks and the wishes of the player’s agent and insisting that Rubio will stay in Minnesota.”

(Update 9:54 PM)

Tommy’s internet isn’t working too well down at the Garden, but he has the scoop on two deals that he’s heard and just gave to me over the phone:

First, that Phoenix will be trading Amare to Golden State for Andris Biedrins and Stephen Curry. Secondly, and more importantly the Knicks will be getting Darko Milicic in exchange for Quentin Richardson.

Also, Tommy spoke to Wojnarowski from Yahoo who said, “Walsh is working really hard on the Rubio deal.”

Chances of me sleeping tonight: slim to none…. this is awesome.

(Update 9:36 PM)

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports is reporting the following:

“The New York Knicks are working hard to cut a deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves to acquire guard Ricky Rubio, a Western Conference said.

One league GM said a deal “isn’t 100 percent,” but likely.

The T’wolves took Rubio fifth followed by Syracuse guard Jonny Flynn.”

Tommy also has spoken with Whitaker again who also believes that these negotiations are definitely taking place.

(Update 9:08 PM)

Tommy just spoke to Lang, who is normally very good with this stuff.

According to Whitaker, he has heard from several different people that this deal is being discussed, and that he has also heard that Minnesota does not plan on keeping both Rubio and Flynn.

Like I posted earlier in the day, I don’t know how this works. I was under the impression that Nate cannot be dealt until July 1st because of his contract situation, and also I’m fairly certain that drafted players can only be traded on the night of the draft, and if not, they are untradeable for a full calendar year. Regardless though, this is going to be a long and interesting night.

(Update 9:00 PM)

Lang Whitaker of SLAM Magazine is reporting a rumor that would send Jordan Hill and Nate Robinson to Minnesota in exchange for Rubio.

It doesn’t make sense to me with Love/Jefferson there, but I just spoke with Tommy at the draft and he is going to ask Lang how legitimate this is… more to come…..

  • Myles A. Mills

I think Walsh wanted Hill actually. I sure did. LOVE IT.

  • NJirish7

Why would we boo Hill? He’s a baller down low

  • KBT1615

    HILLLLLLL.
Finally someone who can Block Shots.

  • KBT1615

They wanted Curry soooooo bad they booed Hill which makes no sense.

  • callamari

    any chance gs trades curry?

  • row

That’s why I didn’t go to the draft tonight. I would’ve strained my eyes from rolling them so hard.

Good job on the boos, fellas. Stay classy.

  • Mucha

I don’t know what to say but I needed to say something. He could be a really good player, I was talking about him back in January/February but I wanted a star point guard – Stephen Curry or Tyreke Evans. F Don Nelson.

We’ll see – I’m disappointed right now. But I’m not hating on Jordan Hill, I like him.

  • row

With that said, I’m glad we got Hill. Who else was replacing Lee? Wilcox?

  • http://theknicksblog.com Andrew Smith

    I agree Mucha-

I’ve been a fan of Hill’s as well and I think he will be a factor, but it’s disappointing not getting Rubio or Curry…. at least right now

  • greatman42001

I’m sorrry but from that interview it seems like Hill wants to be here less than the fans want him to be here… I really don’t think there’s a chance he is here by the end of the night.

  • Clancy3434

Minnesota taking two point guards simply makes no sense…

I’m still holding out hope that they took one of them with the idea that they were going to trade the other one.

I would have felt more confident that they were gonna trade one to the Knicks if they had taken DeRozen over Hill, but… eh… whatever.

  • callamari

this is so disappointing, considering we need a stupid PG #1

  • Magik_Trick

Hes inconsistent…some days we would get 15 rebounds, the next game he’d get 6..

And, he said he sucked last year because guys like Jerryd Bayless and Chase Budinger who took over..and he couldnt shine
hes not going to be the go-to guy as a rookie..so hes gonna suck again
and he likes to party and drink, that cant be a good thing..

Im glad to have him still, but hes not what we need to build whatever the hell we are building..

  • KBT1615

    you booed didn’t you

  • giantg

What I was hoping for was some clarity, what I think we got was a good pick but someone that gives me the feeling that Donnie Walsh has plenty of wheeling and dealing to do.

  • Ben Kopelman

love hill…but no way minny keeps both PGs…got to think one is on the move, so the Knicks night may not be over yet…

  • leodrezagain

Hey man, It is what it is. We needed to find a replacement for Lee, plus maybe now we can go out there and nab Maynor. Many analyst feel Maynor could be one of the most polished point guards and a sleeper in this draft. But I am mad that Donnie didnt go out there and package that 8 pick with the 19th pcik and some cash and get Curry or Flynn.

  • slambam

I’m dying. Hill is a bum. This is terrible. Ford thinks minny trades rubio. We gotta do it

  • leodrezagain

I mean 29th pick we bought from the Lakers.

  • callamari

nope not at all, i will not boo a draft pick until he stinks the court up. Dont get me wrong i like hill i just wanted curry. i believe rubio could be on his way

  • Figure

I like hill ; but im dissapointed . i had thought curry was a knick for sure .
does the milicic trade make any sense anymore ?
i mean , he could flourish in d’antoni’s system .
one year rental , maybe he lives up to the hype with us .
how crazy would that be ? lol
a guy can dream can he ? lol

  • callamari

so right now if we trade to darko we are at duhan/chandler/galo/hill/lee?

  • callamari

wow mistake if we trade for darko and trade lee duhan/chandler/calo/hill/darko

  • Figure

things may get interesting ; minny may move one of the point guards.
keep your seatbelt fastened guys . 8]

  • Bart

    For what for Wilson Chandler

  • Ben Kopelman

who says we can’t? would make sense for the warriors to call us and say theyd take hill, cash, and #29 for curry…if they wanted hill anyway, itd be a smart move for them to take our guy and then dangle him back at us for some extra money/picks…

  • callamari

when does everyone think this trade might happen for rubio if it does?

  • http://theknicksblog.com Andrew Smith

This is not worthy of a post but Stephen A. Smith just tweeted that he wouldn’t be surprised to see Nate Robinson and Jordan Hill for Stephen Curry.

    Thoughts????

  • Mucha

    Nothing else will happen.

  • Bart

I think the Suns take Earl Clark

  • callamari

idk how i feel about that

  • KBT1615

    Who’s Duhan?

  • MS

I totally agree. You have to believe the Knicks wanted Curry a little more than Hill. Why wouldn’t we just give up that 29th pick to move up one spot and get Curry. Who knows what Hill will be, but at least we know Curry can shoot and he helps us lure Lebron as well.

  • Figure

i’d make that trade ; but i would call up minnesota , target rubio .
the minny staff looked more excited about flynn .
    anyone else notice that ?

  • MS

    I hope so.

  • Mucha

    That would be nice.

  • Bart

    Jennings makes his grand appearance.

  • Figure

i seened ; am i the onli one who thinks hes a bust ? lol

  • BiggieSmalls

Stephen A. Smith is out of a job for a reason.

  • callamari

that update is so dumb imo

  • pedro

where the f**** is Jrue Holiday. big drop

  • Figure

maybe he falls to 29 :]
    him or lawson .
    i wouldn’t mind either .
maybe we trade up and snag either one .

  • Eduardo15

    “(Update 9:00 PM)

Lang Whitaker of SLAM Magazine is reporting a rumor that would send Jordan Hill and Nate Robinson to Minnesota in exchange for Rubio.

It doesn’t make sense to me with Love/Jefferson there, but I just spoke with Tommy at the draft and he is going to ask Lang how legitimate this is… more to come…..”

    Oh God, I hope so!

  • choggs

no way… our best bet is MIN gives us one of their PGs.

  • Magik_Trick

    Lawson
    Teague
    Maynor
    Holiday

    all available..

  • Conor Mac

Instead of hill, throw in Lee. I think Hill could thrive under D’Antoni.

  • Figure

    i agree ; throw in lee .

  • Eduardo15

Hill or Lee… I dont care, I really want to see Rubio in a Knicks’ uniform!

  • callamari

i feel the same way actually.. sign and trade both.. but is it true this cannot happen tonight because nate cant get traded till july?

  • Mucha

This draft night is a success if the Knicks get Jrue Holiday or Jeff Teague (how?) later in the draft.

I have to say F Don Nelson (and the Suns if they trade Stoudemire for him and a couple of young players). I wanted Tyreke Evans, James Harden or Stephen Curry… I like Jordan Hill but he’ll have to be good. Really good.

  • BiggieSmalls

the big rumor is Curry is part of an Amare to GS deal..

  • EQ1217

I think NBA GM’s came to their senses and realize that outside of being 6’4, Holliday has not shown anything, college season or pre-draft workouts

  • choggs

    lol

  • BiggieSmalls

hmmmm wouldnt Chandler make more sense seeing as he is a 3 and they have Love/Jeffereson at the 4/5 already.

Chandler/Nate is steep .. there’d have to be filler coming and going to make it work either way.

  • Figure

i think hill will flourish under d’antoni . the guy got game .
we can still get a point guard .
lawson , teague or holliday at 29 ,
assuming there all there ; who would you pick ?

  • pedro

hope the knicks get this 18th pick

  • BiggieSmalls

    Hill could be Bosh/Amare like.

  • Figure

well jrue holliday is off the board . . .

  • pedro

tommy dee tweets: 18th still in play

  • Bart

Curry’s gonna be ROY we missed out big time.

  • callamari

a player and hill for curry? where do i sign

  • Magik_Trick

lol, what if Minny took a PG!

  • Cheech

When GS picked Curry…..that was just pure devastation….what a let down…..i thought we had him in the bag….

  • Bart

If Maynor is 18 we gotta trade for him.

  • callamari

i think the 29th pick tells us the teams direction, if it even gets that far

  • pedro

i hope they all bust if they take another

  • Conor Mac

if you think about it, minnesota is too young to have 4 draft picks to be part of their roster. they need some veterans. even though lee, robinson, and chandler have only 2 or 3 years experience, i think they would type of players minnesota needs to be ATLEAST COMPETITIVE next year. hopefully, we pull a trade with them.

holyyyy shit, they took a pg. there is a trade. c’mon DONNIE!!

  • Magik_Trick

    Im psychic

  • pedro

what?! Lawson? another. do they even have a SG or SF

  • http://theknicksblog.com Andrew Smith

Well, that makes it official… something’s brewing

  • callamari

    3 pg’s? trade 100%

  • Magik_Trick

    RUBIO, FLYNN, LAWSON

ONE OF THOSE GUYS ARE GONNA BE OUR PG

I have a feeling Minny is gonna want Rubio though

  • Bart

I don’t want TY Lawson he wont cut it in the offense he has no Mid range game.

  • Eduardo15

    3 pgs??? WTF?!?!

  • Magik_Trick

    Denver

  • Bart

    Lawson to the Nuggets

  • Figure

    i smell something cookin’ . . .8]

  • Mucha

    ROFL

Johnny Flynn, Ricky Rubio… now Ty Lawson.

The Knicks will sign and trade Nate Robinson for Kevin Love and the Timberwolves reportedly want to get Chris Duhon, but the Knicks believe that Al Jefferson is not enough.

  • Figure

    what ? -_-

  • Bart

We need to trade with G state

  • Magik_Trick

    WTH? Is that true?
Al Jefferson is definetly enough…compared to duhon

  • callamari

if im going to make a trade it better be with golden state

  • Cheech

Yeah….can u explain what u mean by that?

  • pedro

09:21 PM: RUMOR: The Minnesota Timberwolves will trade Ty Lawson to the Denver Nuggets for a future first round pick that belonged to Charlotte, according to Ric Bucher.

    from real GM

  • Ben Kopelman

doug gotlieb on espn radio is saying lawson was for another team (nuggets?) and that rubios agent is working the phones as he does NOT want him staying there…

apparently, flynn was the one they wanted, so hes staying put…plenty more out there tho

  • Figure

    is that so ?

  • EQ1217

Can we trade up for Blair?

Hill at Center and Blair at PF, no one will get a rebound

  • Magik_Trick

all the PGs that will last in this league are gone..wonder were we going with 29

  • pedro

i think the Knicks will get a low grade from this draft. missed out on the 5th and the 18th. probably will miss out on eric maynor too.

    dissapointing

  • callamari

can someone tell me if nate or lee can be traded tonight?

  • pedro

    No

  • Mucha

    No they can’t.

    July.

  • Magik_Trick

nope, neither of them can..i think july 1st or 8th, or somewhere around there

  • EQ1217

No. sometime in July they can be traded in a sign an trade

  • Mucha

There’s Teague. He could be Monta Ellis part 2.

  • callamari

then i dont believe any of the rumored trades for nate

  • Mucha

My bad I didn’t see it.

  • Magik_Trick

Collison gone, its like a PG party out there..

  • callamari

blair at 29? i still believe we need a pg donnie

  • Mucha

They reportedly want to start the season with a Lawson – Flynn – Rubio – Robinson – Duhon starting line-up.

  • pedro

09:32 PM: RUMOR: Knicks likely to get Ricky Rubio from Minnesota? Yahoo! reports that a deal is being discussed and one league GM said a deal “isn’t 100 percent,” but likely.

    from real gm via yahoo

  • BiggieSmalls

Im fairly confident now that we walk away with Rubio AND Hill very soon.

The Minny GM and DW have a relationship and Minny drafted 2 of the same pos. players back to back.

Rubio does NOT want the frozen tundra of Minny

I think Wilson CHandler would fit well next to Al Jeff and K Love up there.

Pretty sure it takes Chandler and some sal cap filler to get it done.

Nate will be S&T’d in another trade as will D Lee with the cheaper Hill as his replacement. Maybe Lee and Nate to Portland for Bayless/Outlaw and say a resigned rejuvenated channing frye.

  • Magik_Trick

what happened to blair…that guy was once supposed to go in the late lottery..

  • pedro

vujacic and 2nd round pick for t.j.ford. any truth to that?

  • greatman42001

YAHOO sports is reporting a deal is likely to be reached between the Knicks and Minnesota for Ricky Rubio and GM is quoted as saying it isnt 100% yet but it is likely to happen!!!!
    YES!!!!!!!

  • callamari

curry going to the suns would be a disaster

  • callamari

quick poll.. how would you feel leaving the draft with hill and rubio if it means giving up chandler/29th ?

  • Figure

    i’d do that
    sign me up .
hill & rubio makes up for chandler .
    don’t forget darko .
complete change from last years team .

  • Mucha

    GREAT DRAFT.

  • BiggieSmalls

like if i just banged out Adrianne Lima.

  • pedro

do it. If the plan goes well and we get Lebron, he is a SF. besides, gallo is better at the 3.

Hill and Rubio for Chandler. Good trade

  • callamari

    if rubio and darko happens..

    pg-rubio
    sg- ??
    sf-galo
    pf-hill
    c-darko

  • Tank212

Assuming we trade for a PG (Rubio), who do we want at 29? Mullens would be an intriguing pick. “Extremely athletic”, says ESPN, for someone 7-1. Previously projected to go Top 5 a year ago? At least he’d be a big with upside. Blair is also still on the board…with that 7’4 wingspan.

  • pedro

    your SG is Hughes

  • MS

Anyway we walk away with Rubio and Curry. I know it’s crazy, but if we can deal Lee, Chandler, Hill, and the 29th and walk away with Rubio and Curry. That would be fantastic. I can dream.

  • Mucha

    And his bad knees.

  • Cheech

    Chase Buddinger!

    Rubio
    Budinger
    Danilo
    Lee
    Hill

    Darko
    Harrington
    Duhon

  • Mucha

    I agree.

  • callamari

again, another refresher question, does rubio have to be traded by tonight?

  • EQ1217

    David Lee for Rudy Fernandez??

Chandler for Rubio (and whatever movable parts are attached to it)

    PG – Rubio
    SG – Rudy
    SF – Gallo
    PF – Hill
    C – Darko/Mullens?

I guess I can dream right?

  • greatman42001

Is there a player Fran Fraschilla doesen’t like?/? Everyone they ask him about he is madly in love with

  • KBT1615

Darko and Mullens……I think Ill pass,

  • Tank212

Budinger is a good call. Some white men can jump.

Some can’t, but I think BJ Mullens would give them solid depth at C.

I’d be happy with either one of them. We’re on #24 now, so let the countdown begin.

  • Bart

I rather Curry But I can’t be Mad

  • Tank212

Fran also had a mancrush on Sweetney – said he’d be one of the most dominant rebounders in the NBA. But he wasn’t exactly Barkley-lite.

What’s the knock on Mullens? He looks like a beast.

  • Figure

    i like rudy ; good call .
that be a good line .

  • Bart

    LOL hes a douche

  • BiggieSmalls

Budinger would be a GREAT get at 29.

  • Mucha

“Have to”? No. Remember Kobe Bryant.

  • Magik_Trick

    Still got 29

    Budinger
    S. Young
    D. Green
    J. Meeks*
    Ellington
    Summers
    Daye
    Beabouis
    Mills
    Gibson
    Thornton
    Pendergraph
    Heyvelt

    some good talent still available..

  • Figure

wouldn’t that line up possibly make us a play off team ?
would that be attracting enough for lebron ? lol

  • Eduardo15

    Oh no… Mullens is gone.. what a night… =(

  • gilcher82

please guys .. imput here …..
Minnesote telling the truth about keeping Flynn and Rubio..
play them together in the backcourt? will either one score enough to pair them together?
and do u really draft a backup point guard in the lottery????
    thoughts?

  • callamari

    blair at 29 if available?

  • gilcher82

29th pick might tell the tale …. another big man and we can preorder our Rubio jerseys ….

  • callamari

rubio is more of a passer than a shooter

  • Magik_Trick

Blair’ll be out of the league in 3 seasons, no ACL’s, hows he gonna survive 82 games a season, especially not in our system..

  • Conor Mac

do we have the 29th pick? the draft board on stage still says the “29 – Lakers”.

  • Magik_Trick

the lakers will make the pick, but its really our pick

  • joeyballz

  • joeyballz

They are the only ones that will make this go through

  • Eduardo15

    Just give in…

  • callamari

    yay…. not

  • Eduardo15

It seems they’re doing it already..

  • Conor Mac

that would be a great pick. i just graduated with alvino from boston college, and we saw that guy a lot during the acc schedule. he’s got game. he’s got serious game.

  • Bart

They are not trading Rubio so were done.

  • dbruno

    Green @ 29?

I wanna punch David Kahn right in the kisser

  • callamari

does this mean we are going to take a pg with 29? we cannot i mean CANNOT leave this draft w.o a pg..

  • Conor Mac

so far, what is everyone’s take of the draft? we haven’t done much, but can we say walsh is doing a good job, or did he totally screwed it by not making a splash?

  • joeyballz

Obviously they are…..But it will come down to Rubios side saying trade me or I am going back…Does he still have that leverage after he has pretty much negotiated his buyout already

  • greatman42001

I think its going to be Wayne Ellington especially with Q-Rich gone.

  • callamari

    curry/rubio/evans or bust im sorry

  • NYK FAN IN OZ

meeks or budinger… its gotta be a guard right?

  • Bart

Can Rubio still go back to Spain?

  • Magik_Trick

In other news, anyone surprised the Clippers still have Z-Bo & Camby?
And the Rockets still have T-Mac?
And th Suns still got Amar’e?

  • Eduardo15

    I hate Minnesota and G.S.

  • gilcher82

amazing how the early pics were lining up great for us …. then came crashing down … no reason we should be going home tonight without at least J FLYNN … very dissapointing ….

  • callamari

lets face it folks the 29 pick is our fate at PG

  • BiggieSmalls

Budinger is just the type of Athletic long back court player we need on this team..

he gives us length and speed and shooting n the back court..

potentially the steal of the draft..

please Grizz and Minny dont read this

  • BiggieSmalls

we aint going home with out Ricky in a Knicks cap.

  • joeyballz

    Yes he could

  • callamari

    ill bet on that

  • dbruno

I don’t think Walsh is gonna go PG. SG or another big man

    I wouldn’t be upset w/ Sam Young

  • callamari

    well here we go

  • Conor Mac

curry – i think 5 years from now he will be a bust. he’s a great shooter, but i think everyone is putting too much pressure on him thinking he could be a big piece to the puzzle. at best, i think he can be the poor man’s reggie miller. i think the nba will be too physical for him. just saying.

rubio – 5 years from now, we will all be saying walsh should have taken songalia contract if it meant we would have had rubio. he’ll be top 3 pg in the league at his peak.

evans – who? i seriously forget who it is.

  • Magik_Trick

Wayne Ellington is underrate, he was hidden in the shadows of Hansbrough & Lawson..

Hes this years Courtney Lee…if we dont make our tade we desire for, this kidd will be a good option

    Though..we’d still be PG-Less

  • Cheech

    Definately agree with that.

Chase has a little more upside in my opinion.

  • Conor Mac

sorry. you meant evans as in tyreke evans. sorry. sorry. long day. yeah. tyreke will be a f*cking beast.

  • callamari

rubio will go back to spain before he plays in minn

  • Cheech

Yes! Im with u. Chase Chase Chase!

  • Tank212

Rubio’s agent has to strong arm the Wolves. Landing him and Budinger would take the sting out of getting the Curry whiplash in a hurry.

  • Magik_Trick

    Budingers Available
    S. Young is available

  • callamari

who is available?? gosh this is ugly

  • Bart

We have a shot at Budinger now will Donnie pick him.

  • Eduardo15

If a trade is reached, will Stern announce it?

  • Tank212

Even having traded Lawson, Minnesota can’t keep three rookies – I mean, Rubio, Flynn and Ellington? Flynn and Ellington fill in for Foye and Miller, and by trading Rubio for Chandler (or Lee), they have a great front court with Love and Al Jeff.

    Who’s going 29? Who’s the 3 Million Dollar man?

  • Cheech

PLEASE DONNIE! BE SMART. TAKE CHASE!!!! HE IS THERE, WAITING FOR US!!!! DONT BE SILLY AND TAKE TONEY DOUGLAS OR DANNY GREEN.

  • callamari

this pick is going to be booed no matter what

  • Eduardo15

Rich Bucher just said on Espn radio: some sources saying S. Curry going to Phoenix.

  • Mucha

Jordan Hill may not be Albert Einstein but he definitely has rockstar potential. I’m only concerned about his mental strength and his basketball IQ but he definitely has a great motor and he’ll play hard. Hopefully he’ll get stronger but he’s good pick if Donnie Walsh gets a point guard in my opinion.

But man I hate Don Nelson… or should I say Steve Kerr. I like Hill but I’m really disappointed and DeRozan could haunt the Knicks.

  • jrmlk

dam gs…i was hoping for rubio or curry..hill is not gona be a super star..knicks messed up again..

  • callamari

darkooooooo yess the draft trade i was looking for

  • EQ1217

Rubio needs a jumpshooter to pass to. Donnie draft Budinger

  • KBT1615

    DANNY GREEEN!!!!

  • j

    Darko is now a Knick!

  • callamari

    booooooooo… this draft is ugly

  • Magik_Trick

    Q -Darko is official
wonder if we would still go after Gortat, most likely not

    TONEY D IS GOOD
    Dont sleep on him folks

  • callamari

    wait….. a PG?? o no

  • Mucha

    Nothing will happen tonight.

  • pedro

    f*** donnie. i’m out

  • NYK FAN IN OZ

    sighh

  • Eduardo15

    T. Douglas?
    =/

  • gilcher82

a POING GUARD who averaged 2 assists per game ….. WONDERFULLL
WE STILL DONT HAVE A POINT GUARD aside from DUHON on our roster
    rofl

  • KBT1615

    Toney Douglas Im Happy

  • Cheech

Of course we dont take Chase. damn

  • Eduardo15

    Gotta go study.. sigh

  • Figure

i like douglas but the onli way i see this draft a success is if we somehow pull the trigger for rubio .

  • greatman42001

If he wanted a scorer why not Patty Mills I mean come on this makes no sense… Patty Mills can play point and score.

  • Magik_Trick

Damn…Donnie needs to step his game
    1 MINOR trade isnt enough…

  • Bart

    Knicks never get it

  • callamari

if he does not pull the trigger on rubio/curry this draft is a bust and we are still at square one for a pg

  • Magik_Trick

read the update..rubio could be ours after all

  • Mucha

    Jordan Hill
    Toney Douglas
    Darko Milicic

At least we got bigger, Jordan Hill is a good pick (not a great pick obviously) and Milicic is a good addition but Donnie Walsh needs to get Ricky Rubio.

  • jrmlk

get curry or rubio or donnie walsh you fail..

  • callamari

this guy the cavs picked looks more legit than hill

  • dbruno

hopefully he drafted Douglas to a Barbosa type player behind Rubio. god I hope we get him

  • bigknicka

philly booed mcnabb thats all i have to say

  • Magik_Trick

    LMAO….DeJuan Blair still undrafted

  • callamari

whats funny is we all wanted curry way before we got rubio.. now we are desperate to get rubio.. things have changed big time

  • bigknicka

jordan hill is someone that could become a straight up beast if you look at his college stats he improved in points rebounds and block shots every year with 3 different coaches….thats pretty impressive for a big man

  • italian stallion
  • giantg

2 picks, no point guard. That cannot stand, dude.

  • j

based on a 30 sec. espn club playing against 14-15 year olds in a division 2 spanish club? really?

  • bigknicka

i love curry but theres just something about hill that i think is gonna be special, i was happy with the pick either way because if curry flynn hill and harden was gone by 8 i probably wouldve freaked out, but having hill means we could make a move with lee or even harringtons contract for a solid pg or sg

  • jrmlk

maybe sent hill to the suns.. to get curry

  • Magik_Trick

We gotta acquire a PG, wether it be someone already in the league, or get another pick and take a 2nd round risk

  • Cheech

Link doesnt work. I would appreciate it if u could do it again.

  • Magik_Trick

    Chad Ford Says:

“The Knicks fell in love with Douglas after a workout and bought this pick to get him. Douglas is a bit of a poor man’s Ben Gordon, a combo guard who can really light it up. He lets the 3s fly and, unlike Gordon, is a terrific defender. This is a really good pick for New York this late.”

  • Eduardo15

    Comforting news..

  • Eduardo15

Man, I feel really bad for D Blair.

  • bigknicka

im happy with the hill pick…it gives us an inside presence that can score, run, and block shots for a team that needed some defense on the inside because as much as i love Lee he just isnt the answer for the long term….

imagine hill at the 4and gallo at the 3 and possibly chandler at the 2? thats a solid core of big men to welcome someone like bosh or amare next summer

and theres other point guards besides rubio like lawson, maynor, holiday, or by some miracle curry because they have monta ellis who wants to be the point guard

  • Jeff Cykiert

what happened to holiday!!!! the hole TKB staff had him at 8!!

    >>????

  • EQ1217

Donnie buy two more picks and draft: Budinger & Blair

  • jingo

Fellas, have a little more faith. It seems to me the Knicks have drafted guys who can replace Lee and Robinson, and who otherwise fit well in D’Antoni’s system. So, the Knicks will be able to move both Lee and Robinson in order to get an exellent PG prospect plus more. I guess the aforementioned PG prospect will be Rubio since the T’Wolves drafted two PGs with their two lottery picks and Rubio will be tough for the Wolves to keep (His rep will do everything possible to get him out of Minny, plus the payout to his Spanish club is a bear).

Rubio, Chandler, Gallo, Hill, Darko would be a very exciting young starting lineup leading up to the momentus offseason of 2010. IMO.

  • pedro

i feel bad for Curry. He really wanted to be a Knick.
I think the Warriors are a bad place to him. Expect him to be in Nelson’s dog house most of the year.. Besides, he ain’t gonna yet enough shots, with Monta, Corey “i only assist the rim” maggete, steph Jackson, so on.

If he goes to Phoenix, then maybe we still can get him..

with that said i hate the warriors.

  • bigknicka

ive been saying lee for fernandez forever its a perfect match of a shooting guard that could pass and shoot lights out with fernandez and it gives portland the back up plan if turkoglu doesnt work out

  • Cheech

Or at least one and get Chase. Just to make the fans happy and salvage the night.

  • Figure

i totally agree with you .

  • bigknicka

    or meghan fox

  • Eduardo15

Man, if Rubio ends up in NY, all will be fine and well.

  • Figure

land curry or rubio . rite now ; rubio seems like the ideal target .

  • italian stallion

I agree, but we need Rubio first

  • Jack D

If rubio gets shipped here, is there any chance we will here this by tonight?

  • Mucha

How could the Knicks keep Chandler if they want to get Rubio?

  • Figure

well he is in new york ; and it would be a big deal . so im guessing will proly hear about it .

  • bigknicka

instead of outlaw how about fernandez? if chandler is gone and probably hughes too (as the cap filler) fernandez could be the perfect fit for our team he’ll be barbosa with more height and stronger defense

  • Magik_Trick

I’d say not, The Knicks arent the only team there talking to regarding Rubio, so there weighing all options..

  • italian stallion

I think we have to hear about it tonight otherwise it isn’t happening this year. I believe there is a rule like that.

  • Mucha

    Hmmm nothing will happen tonight…

  • Mucha

    What about Kobe Bryant?

  • Jeff Cykiert

Im going to quote jingo, because his comment is great.

“Fellas, have a little more faith. It seems to me the Knicks have drafted guys who can replace Lee and Robinson, and who otherwise fit well in D’Antoni’s system. So, the Knicks will be able to move both Lee and Robinson in order to get an exellent PG prospect plus more.”

So true. Guys don’t hate on donnie for NOT WINNING THE LOTTERY. we took the best pick available, hill is a 2 way big man, something this team has never had in like 10 years.

And as for the 29th pick, we will never know as much about players that low in the draft as DW and his staff do, so just trust him.

If we get rubio, i will do things.

  • bigknicka

im glad u said before me because i see it in him also, he has the speed and skill to score….he’s improved in ppg and rebounding every year in college with 3 different coaches…and hes much faster and stronger than channing frye

  • bigknicka

im starting to hate him like stephon marbury

  • Bart

Over Under on how many time Jay Bilas said Athlete.

  • bigknicka

thats why they play the game…….NBA Live 10 that is lol

  • italian stallion

Agreed 100%, but who at PG?????

  • gilcher82

swear to god im going to throw a hammer thru my TV is he says “we have a trade” one more time …. first it was the knicks ……….. send quentin … i threw a sock … then just now ….. the timberwolves ……. lawson ….. threw my sneaker ….. what a tease

  • Eduardo15

Oh sht.. I almost had a heart attack here… Stern announced a trade involving the Wolves… but it was Lawson going elsewhere

  • bigknicka

    78 times

  • Eduardo15

    Yeah.. exactly

  • greatman42001

This may sound crazy but what about the Lakers coming in a getting Rubio from Minnesota with a trade of Bynum and Farmar for Rubio giving them
    Rubio
    Kobe
    Ariza
    Odom
    Gasol

Then Minny could trade Love for a solid shooter and scorer.

    Just a crazy thought

  • gilcher82

Jeff Cykier, you are 100% correct, great post ….

  • Eduardo15

    “(Update 10:53 PM)

HoopsHype Editor Jorge Sierra just tweeted a quote from Ricky Rubio’s father: ”We have to talk to the people in Minnesota and see what happens … We could be in Minnesota or somewhere else.”

Doesn’t sound too thrilled about the prospects of staying indoors for four months a year….”

Just get over with it already. Rubio belongs in NY

  • Jeff Cykiert

Well… I think Nash is coming now that shaq is gone and they are shopping amare… but in terms of young pgs…

    Andre Miller?

Rubio? (this really might happen rubios agent is probably giving them hell, as is DW.)

    Flynn?

    I don’t know…

  • Magik_Trick

I wonder if they realize it snows in New York..
is definetly not as cold as Minnesota, but sounds like Ricky wants to be in Miami with all this weather talk..

  • italian stallion

    Nash is expensive.

I think Rubio should play hard ball. He has very little downside. If he goes back to Spain, he’ll lose some money now, but he still has expanded his name to the US and can do some marketing here for cash.

  • Jeff Cykiert

If i urge you all to go to minnesota and start looting and pillaging, can this site be shut down, or would i just be arrested for incitement to violence?

  • gilcher82

seriously … its june and we have had 18 days of rain

  • Eduardo15

    HAHAHAHAHA

  • Jeff Cykiert

Yea i agree. I really think it is likely that they are forced into trading him to us… but maybe they picked flynn knowing that rubio might do that, so that even if he stays in barna, they still have their pg.

  • italian stallion

Form your keyboard to God’s ears. LOL

  • IDunnoMyName

Maybe buy a pick for budinger or Mills?

  • bigknicka

its not the weather but the possible endorsments and the fact that he also said in an interview yesterday on SNY that he would like to play for the knicks because its only an 8 hour flight home

  • EQ1217

I just had a bad feeling that maybe its Rondo for Rubio?

  • bob go knicks

you think PHOENIX is gonna trade anyone to D’ANTONI?no way in hell

  • Jeff Cykiert

I think i figured out Minnesota’s intentions. They knew Rubio might not want to come, and his agent could play hardball, so they picked flynn in addition to him. If stays, they can trade flynn, but if he is unhappy and goes back to spain, they don’t have to pay him and they get to keep Flynn as a young new PG.

Either way, the worst situation for them is that they get flynn and PREVENTED US from getting rubio.

With that in mind, i don’t see why they would ever fold into trading him.

  • bigknicka

JUST TRADE CHANDLER AND MOBLEYS CONTRACT (AND IF NEEDED HARRINGTON TOO) FOR RUBIO AND AN EXPIRING CONTRACT

  • BiggieSmalls

i just thinking Portland wants to get rid of OUtlaw and he replaces Chandler to a large extent.

    they LIKE fernandez

  • gilcher82

JEff you followed up a great comment with a horrible one …
why would they waste a lottery pick to screw a team thats not even in thier division… sorry bud, no way

  • BiggieSmalls

ha ha .. maybe a three way..

  • bob go knicks

as many time as guys on this site say “BEAST” and “FREAKISH”

  • bigknicka

I’LL CUT MY LOSES WITH CHANDLER AS LONG AS WE USE NATE OR LEE IN THE SUMMER FOR A SHOOTING GUARD BECAUSE THATS THE ONLY PLACE CHANDLER WOULDVE FIT WITH GALLO AND HILL NOW ON BOARD

  • italian stallion

Because if they don’t trade him and he leaves, they wasted the pick and the players they gave up to get him.

  • bigknicka

    I JUST THOUGHT OF THAT

  • Jeff Cykiert

haha i wasn’t saying that they had that in mind when they took the pick… I was just saying, they want rubio, so if he stays, they can trade flynn, but if he leaves they don’t have to pay him and they still have flynn, but anyone who wants rubio has to go through them.

Of course, they weren’t intending to screw us, they just did.

  • bob go knicks

but the wolves guy is really close to DONNIE WALSH ,maybe something gets done based on that

  • Jeff Cykiert

True but they still own the rights to him, so they still technically own those assets indirectly.

  • bigknicka

i wouldnt be to mad with outlaw either

  • j

wolves just drafted rubio, flynn, elligton. why rondo?

  • BiggieSmalls

i CANT believe CHase Budinger is still there after 44 picks..

Jezzzzz Donnie.. DOnt go to sleep on this guy,.. Drop a few of Dolan’s dimes.. but another second rounder and get this kid!!!!

  • gilcher82

Jeff you need to take into account that they needed a scoring guard, and who they didnt take …. Curry … if they went in with that mindset like u say with Curry out there … then its a horrific job on thier part

  • Jeff Cykiert

    whyd everyone stop talking?

  • Jeff Cykiert

    wow chase budinger goes 44th.

and rockets buy 2 second rounders? Why??? TALK TO ME

  • italian stallion

    I needed a beer. LOL

  • Jeff Cykiert

That’s true… I worded it a little strong/wrong at first, but i guess all im saying is they HAD to know that rubio would not be happy going there, so they must be willing to deal with the possibility that he doesn’t play…

    You are right though.

  • bigknicka

i really want something to happen to get a point guard, ill take maynor or teague

  • BiggieSmalls

they dont have to TRADE Nash.. PHX has a team option for 13.5 mil this year.

THey can simply decline the option, make him a free agent and he can sign for say… 3 years 20 million with us. He will end up with more than the 13 and be in NYC where he lives in the off season.

  • gilcher82

    haha another PG for Minny

  • EQ1217

    another PG for Minny

  • Figure

wow ; another point guard .

  • Jeff Cykiert

This is a joke… they are joking with me…

  • gilcher82

so bottom line, nothing is happening tonight ….
next week will be crucial to see if this kid Rubio puts the strongarm on minnesota to trade him

  • Jeff Cykiert

    wow GREAT pick for cleveland

  • j

    +1

  • Jeff Cykiert

yea gilcher you are right, there is nothing we can really offer to trade right now for him, so the debates are going on, but we won’t know anything until nate and lee become eligible for trade.

  • Magik_Trick

hey Jeff, didnt u start a blog once? what happened to it? just wondering..

and I think he Knicks are done for the night..Calathes just got drafted

Minny just got Calathes, Cavs picked up D. Green
that kid from Miami that D’Antoni loves so much, looks like hes headed to ndrafted territory, i’ll see him in summer league

  • BiggieSmalls

too bad about Chase.. Would have fit nicely.

  • bigknicka

Minny is acting like that popular guy in high school that you hate because he bangs every girl you had a crush on

  • Magik_Trick

when Chad Ford and the other draft sites release there draft grades tomorrow, i think we’ll end up being the biggest losers..

  • BiggieSmalls

    http://tinyurl.com/lajcog

From Rubio’s father: “Right now, Ricky is likely staying in Europe one or two years.

    HARD BALL

  • huge_knicks_fan11

Chad Ford said that Amare to Warriors trade is dead.

  • gilcher82

    +1 ….. no +100000 bigknicka … rofl
    great line bro

  • Jeff Cykiert

haha magik trick: yes i did, and if i recall, you are still the ONLY FOLLOWER! haha. I had so much stuff to write that i started a blog, and then a week later i re-read everything i had written (and not edited or even read over) and i realized that it was unorganized and unclear, and that it would take a LOT MORE WORK to actually put out material that is readable and enjoyable. Don’t have the time…

Especially since i spend so much time on this blog…

  • j

    Rubio, Flynn, Ellington, Calathes

    And don’t forget Telfair.

    Somethings gotta be going down.

  • greatman42001

I can’t believe Adrien hasn’t been drafted I’m telling you as I said all along he is the next coming of Paul Milsap and at worst Maik Rose, a good rebounder in college is a good rebounder in the NBA if he goes undrafted Knicks should 100% bring him in to replace Lee off the boards.

  • joeyballz

I am a little confussed; Rubio has to be traded within 24 hours of him getting drafted otherwise he cant be traded for a year….Is this right?

  • Magik_Trick

Minnesota just drafted Ricky’s former teammate, Henk Norel..

    Hmmm…

Blake Griffins brother just got drafted…hes illll, he got drafted twice in one week
    http://www.harlemglobetrotters.com/news/index.html?article_id=177

  • italian stallion

I read that somewhere else also, but I do not know it to be true

  • Jeff Cykiert

Biggie! where on earth did u find that link?… that is big stuff

  • slambam

    I NEED MORE BUZZ

  • EQ1217

Wasn’t that the same news outlet that Sergio was going to be a Knick tonight?

  • Jeff Cykiert

You guys… i actually play point guard during pickup games at the SERF up in madison… So like, you know if worse worst, i guess i could be plan L or O or whatever.

  • BiggieSmalls

direct quote from teh man’s father..

  • Magik_Trick

Is Rubio probably staying in Spain because of Minnesota? or is he probably staying regardless

If hes staying regardless, do we still trade for him?

  • Jeff Cykiert

No but seriously… we now will most likely have to settle for duhon all year, and we don’t have a draft pick next year, so wtf are we going to do?

  • Jeff Cykiert

It’s definitely NOT regardless… no way. He doesn’t want to pay 5 million dollars to go play in minnesota, a team without a coach.

  • BiggieSmalls

    hoops hype twitter feed

    twitter.com/hoopshype

they pumping em one every few mins.

  • BiggieSmalls

not only that but to a team with FOUR point guards on the roster… Incl one picked right after him.

  • gilcher82

we dont have a pick next year ???
what about a lottery pick if we miss the playoffs again?
im pretty sure we have a protected pick for next year ….

  • Lebron-Wade 2010

from espn, rights to point guard Ty lawson has been shipped to the denver nuggets in exchange for a future first round pick.

  • greatman42001

Wolves GM is coming on ESPN the remaining crowd should throw garbage at the screen when he comes on… he should stop being a shmuck and just come to terms with the fact that he doesen’t want to play there and that he should of taken Curry instead of being a pompous SOB

  • Jeff Cykiert

gilcher… no picks at all next year, none.

  • gilcher82

how ….. when did we trade an unprotected pick?
this had to be an isiah deal somehow lol

  • EQ1217

    Utah has our unprotected pick

  • BiggieSmalls

why drag that up… i was feeling this team.

  • Jeff Cykiert

of course it was. The jazz have our pick unprotected.

  • Jeff Cykiert

    hah sorry big.

  • Charles

Utah receives New York’s 2010 1st Round Pick from the Tom Gugliotta trade (2004). Via Phoenix from the Stephan Marbury trade

  • gilcher82

    ughh
however jeff … i would expect this team to aquire picks somewhere over the course of the next 12 months with all donnie’s wheeling and dealing

  • Jeff Cykiert

hah sorry big. But imagine if we SUCK next year and win the lottery.

The utah jazz select… John Wall.

  • greatman42001

Wow the Wolves GM is such a pompous arrogant shmuck… he really believes Flynn and Rubio can play together…. and than he says right in front of Mark Jackson who is dying to become the coach of the wolves that he wants Van Gundy more or less… this guy is a complete SOB

  • Jeff Cykiert

Definitely. Between Harrington, Duhon, Hughes, Mobley, and whatever other expiring contracts we have, plus Nate and Lee, we are bound to get a first round pick.

  • Jeff Cykiert

But seriously, greatman, you are completely correct. What a schmuck. (pardon me), But c’mon, he really wants us to believe he is going to start flynn at shooting guard? are you serious?

  • greatman42001

He realized only after that he made a terrible mistake in not taking Curry and as a 1st year GM he can’t live up to it so instead he is making the team worse… making Rubio angry…. Making me and you angry as well as every Spaniard and Knick fan in the world angry…. He should be a man and just give it up.

  • bigknicka

stephon marbury gets the last laugh

  • joeyballz

    Ok
So how exactly will this potential Rubio deal work? Can we obtain him in a sign and trade or after 24 hours that he is drafted if he is not traded he would have to stay with Minny for at least a year….That is if he doesn’t go back to Spain in which Minny would still have his rights…..Can someone please clarify this 24 hour rumor I have been hearing

  • bigknicka

    thanks man

  • Eduardo15

The Minnesota GM sounds really gay!!

  • jmerms@mac.com

Rubio is coming to new york. He wants a big market not Minny.

if you end up with JORDAN HILL,DARKO,and TONEY DOUGLASS its not a fail, but we need a good no GREAT point guard sign SESSIONS

  • gilcher82

with his flashy play he’ll have a billboard in times square during his rookie season …. minnesota he will get lost

  • jingo

I’m thinking sign and trade for one of Lee or Nate. Nate’s the better fit for Minny but Lee has more overall value. Three way deal? Dunno.

I FELL IN LOVE WITH DOUGAS when we went to the cinema and i pulled the pop-corn bag trick on him …he blushed,i knew he was mine lol

How many people think Rubio will be here in NY

  • BiggieSmalls

    Rubio is “rights” now.

Until he signs a contract he can be traded whenever Minny wants.

We can trade for him for any player on our roster. To work it into a RFA sign and trade with Nate or Lee it has to wait til after July 9th.

maybe we can all chip in some money

    oh yeah, in three years…

  • greatman42001

Knicks should bring in Pargo and Daniel Hackett from Gonzaga to play PG in summer league as well as Adrien to help out with rebounding that we are going to lose with Lee being all but a goner.

  • bob go knicks

50/50 CHANCE i want RUBIO, but i want to keep JORDAN HILL hes gonna be better than BOSH

  • joeyballz

I would say 95%….I think it all depends on how much this prick Kahn decides to play hardball with his old boss….We all know Ricky is not going to Minny…but does Kahn say go back to Spain we still hold your rights to hold off for a better deal in the future…Also if he does go back to Spain how long does Minny hold his rights for? Two year or three years?
