Because we here at TKB are men of the people, I received an email from Gym Rat Barnaby who requested that I create a post for possible trade thoughts.
I agree, and I’ll start. We know that Rubio is still in play, Kidd or no Kidd, Nash or no Nash (the latter seems to be destined to stay in the land of the Sun), so I’ve been thinking of who could be the piece(s) that Minnesota would want.
If Wilson Chandler is indeed out of play, I think it could be a combination of Al Harrington and Nate Robinson to Minny-HAHA for Rubio and maybe Ryan Gomes, figuring the Wolves would want the Knicks to take back a contract.
Because the Wolves are under the cap, it could be Al Harrington straight up, especially considering that the Knicks are trying to snag Grant Hill. That’s what my gut is telling me. Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski noted on BT’s show today that the Celts are trying to land Hill as well.
I could see Donnie trading away his favorite son in Harrington and the Wolves surely needs some pop from the perimeter.
I think what the Wolves would want most out of a deal with Rubio are NBA contributors, which are what Nate and Harrington are. Plus Harrington is a “good” contract. There are many things that need to sort themselves out over the next few months, but as the season approaches I’d think that David Kahn would have to pull the trigger.
Curious to hear what you guy’s think and what you’d do if you were the GM.

If I was Minny I wouldn’t do Al & Nate for Rubio. Al’s not sticking around when his contract expires.
I would do Chandler & Nate for Rubio.
Tommy,
Break this deal down ..
3 WAY TRADE
MINNY GETS EARL CLARK, JORDAN HILL PLUS 2012 #1 FROM NY
PHOENIX GETS DAVID LEE(SIGN & TRADE) RICKY RUBIO & EDDY CURRY
NY GETS AMARE (SIGN AND TRADE) PLUS A 2ND FROM MINNY
THOUGHTS
Bro u’ve got to be the biggest suns in the world if u actually think the knicks are winning out in that trade you setup the suns for a Great team. The knicks need the point in any trade they do point guards are what make the d’antoni system, work we need rubio and by the way that first rounder to minny totally unnecessary.
Does anybody like D.J. Augustin??? I really believe we made a mistake not drafting him last year. He wouldve had a year under the d’antoni offense and is a pure pg who can shoot the ball. He’s quick and couldve gotten stronger over this summer then we wouldn’t have had to worry about a pg for the next couple of years. If we would have augustin now that Jordan hill draft pick wouldve been justified. We couldve had a lineup for 2010 looking like 1. augustin 2. Chandler 3. LBJ 4. JHill 5. DLee … That wouldve been a grqeat starting 5 and have duhon and Douglas comin off the bench. Ahhh I guess I’ll jus keep dreamin then
TOMMY, how about DAVID LEE for RAMON SESSIONS SIGN N TRADE both are rfa bucks just lost CHARLIE V they are a little short of PFs except KURT THOMAS who is getting a little old in the tooth
hey bob,, i replied on the other thread..
but will do here as well..First you’d have to convince Lee to go to Milwaukee. Maybe 12 mil a year would persuade him.. Assuming Sessions gets 8 you have to make up the difference of 4 mil coming back to NYC.
Bowen makes that much and expires after this season.. Not sure if the Bucks would do that as if leaves them without a real PG..SOooooooo
Maybe include Duhon for Ridnour (contracts match and they both expire.. Duhon is a more reliable and consistent point and woudl work well on teh PnR with Lee and the rest of their team..
Wouldnt be bad for both sides actually.
Lee and Chandler for Bosh. Let’s make it happen!!!
No way. explain to me WTF has Bosh done? plus Chandler and Lee are two solid pieces to rebuild around. Settle down with all that bandwagon stuff. Bosh is a nice player but he’s a secondary player to a Lebron, Kobe or wade and that’s what this team needs.
Build up our own guys and the FA will come.
I would LOVE Rubio, and getting him anyway possible would be great, especially if we can get kidd. If it’s a three year deal, I think it’ safe to say he would be successful in his first year, which would be VERY appealing to a guy like Lebron who has played with him for Team USA, so that would be a reason to come. It’s also possible that Kidd fizzles out in the last two years of the deal, but in the perfect situation we would have a groomed Ricky Rubio who could replace Kidd, while also having Kidd’s leadership. Donnie should just do whatever it takes to get Rubio
Doing this from my phone, so don’t have the full compliment of Internet tools to look up salaries and how they match. Although I hear that Nash might be out of play, I wonder if some combination of harrington and mobley might be able to bring nash (and another player) to ny. If we were to get rubio ( which I’m still hopeful of), I would much rather have nash as the teacher.
Maybe Nash and pavlovic for mobley and harrington? Saves Sarver some loot and can save a little face by acquiring someone like harrington who can fill the stat sheets for a bad team.
Kidd we would get for the MLE though. Why would we waste Mobley’s contract and Harrington just to get Nash. Kidd would be a fine teacher for Rubio. The only thing is Nash can actually score, which would be nice. With Kidd and Rubio, neither really scores that much.
Thanks Tommy. And my two thoughts on trades are either:
Harrington, Hughes, and JJ for T-Mac, Aaron Brooks, and Landry
OR
Harrington, Chandler, and Nate (via S & T) for Amare
Both are practical and I won’t explain unless other deem an explanation as necessary.
I like your first trade scenario, Landry is a good backup PF and Brooks is OK.
I wouldn’t touch Amare with a ten foot pole. He’s had two severe injuries in his career already.
If and when PHX decides to start over Al, Wilson and Nate for Amare would be a great trade for both teams.
If Dallas were to decide to start over Al, Wilson and Nate for Dirk would be a great trade for both teams. While we talk about LeBron in 2010, I think DW would not wait for the long shot of LeBron and would grab an Amare or a Dirk if either became available.
I’d take amare way before dirk…besides the fact that it would be harder to get dirk, dirk is 4.5 years older than amare.
Dirk may be 4.5 years older then Amare but he may be healthier. I prefer Amare to Dirk. My point is that I believe DW will move on a major improvement player but not just make lateral moves except Jeffries and Curry for cap space.
I agree with you on all points actually. Donnie definitely needs to bring in a big name to really make us potential winners in the lebron sweepstakes.
Dirk will not be available. Cuban loves him.
Alan Hahn said on his live chat today that Knicks fans have to forget about Rubio. In other words, not a chance. Tommy, is that what you hear?
obviously not based on his post..
I still think there are behind the scenes discussions. Rubio can go to Real Madrid and not have to pay his buyout while making significantly more coin on the big stage of Real Madrid.
Kahn cant be serious in not getting anything for his 5th pick overall.
But what do you think about Rubio now saying he’s going back to Spain for 2 seasons to play out his contract?
Do you call his bluff?
Is this a way of demanding a trade and fast?
What do you think Biggie? You usually have a smart opinion…
I dont think he will play for DKV. So if that was the quote Im having a hard time with it.
It sounds like he is posturing to call Kahn’s bluff. Is he gonna work for DKV for a small fraction of what he could even make playing for Real Madrid in what is an inferior league? Remember DKV got demoted in the Euro league due to not meeting certain hurdles..
Im having a hard time gauging the thoughts of the T Wolves fans on this.
Like Tommy says – If Minny gets some useful pieces then he could easily be moved. Maybe we get them in a Nate Sign and trade and package someone like Al Buckets.
Clearly Ricky’s meeting with Kahn didnt go well.. So it looks like he is calling his bluff on staying in Spain.
I feel like if Minny decides to move Rubio, they’ll be looking for more than Harrington & Nate. Sure they are both good NBA contributors, but they are also both, likely, at or beyond their peak. You know what you’re gonna get. With all the hype around Rubio, I imagine they’d be able to either get someone who is proven to be better than Al/Nate, or a younger player with potential to be better (which is what Rubio is).
Same with these Bosh and Dirk and Amare scenarios. If the teams decide they are gonna move their superstars, you gotta think they can get back better than David Lee and/or Wilson Chandler. I’d love to see it, but sounds like wishful thinking to me.
And actually, not sure I would do Lee & Chandler for Bosh. I’d have hesitations. Lee and Jeffries for Bosh, however, is gold.
I would absolutely NOT do Lee for Sessions. The league is full of middle of the pack but quick and young PG’s. It shouldn’t take Lee to get them.
In regard to the sessions point, I agree and I told this bob before. If we were to move lee, we could get much more value for him than ramon sessions. I’d be much more content in moving lee and other pieces for a player such as amare or bosh. With that said, the bucks don’t have other pieces to add to sessions that would be key for our team. Alexander and Mbah a Moute are both 3’s and we already have gallinari/chandler.
Lee’s perception tot he fans is much different than his perception in the GMs office.
Do you really think we can get Amare of Bosh in a Lee deal?
Id do the sessions deal if there were other pieces involved.
Sessions looked like a real good player .
I think we can if the right pieces are involved. With that said, I was just pointing out that I’d rather go for a big name than ramon sessions is all. Granted, I think that the portland trade (see below) would also be a good option. I just feel that Lee for Session, straight up is too much and Mbah a Moute and Joe Alexander wouldn’t be that beneficial to us since we have chandler and gallinari.
well saure I’d rather a big name but I dont think that is practical.
If we can get a good up and coming player for Lee that sounds equal. After all, Lee is not an established two way star so why should someone give one up for him?
If we can get another RFA who is uip and coming (sessions) and MAYBE a draft pick that we can possibly use in a package for say Rubio then I’d be ecstatic
so you’d have a problem with Sessions, Ridnour and a protected future #1 for Lee and Duhon?
No, I would not, but I feel like we could use Lee in other ways that can be more beneficial in regards to production and increasing our chances of getting lebron next year.
By the way, I don’t think that they would give up sessions, ridnour and a protected first for lee and duhon anyways.
really? Lee fills their PF hole and DUhon given them a steady vet to man the point.
Joe Alexander
D Lee
Bogut
Michael Redd
Duhon is a decent young starttng five.
Yeah, but (dont call me crazy, even though you prob will) I feel like sessions, alexander, cap filler, and a unprotected 1st might be enough for amare already…and id take amare over lee and alexander…only because phoenix wanted biedrins, brandon wright, and steph curry (if i remember correctly?)…that unprotected 1st in next years draft yields a player thats better than steph curry, joe alexander is almost at brandon wright’s level, and although biedrins is better than sessions, if nash leaves, they need a pg and the difference in draft pick talent, would make up for the difference in talent between biedrins and sessions probably anyways. Also, GSW rejected that thinking that they were giving up too much, so maybe it would be enough. If not, throw in ridnour to serve as some cap filler as he adds more talent to the suns as well.
well Joe Alexander didnt get ANY minutes as the third string SF in Milwaukee. (12 mi /5 pts, 2 rbs)
And Milwaukee traded away Jefferson to get him more time (and save buckets of cash)
Brandan Wright is a much more athletic (and Joe A is athletic) player who rotated with A Randolf and put up 8/4 in 17 plus minutes.
Biedrins is a force on the boards and we know what Curry is. All three are under 24.
GSW was right to not accept that package for Amare. It is a lot.
Bruce Bowen comes over too to make the salaries match up
How about this trade–
T-Raptors send Bosh to NYK for D-Lee, L-Hughes, Will Chandler. T-Raptors could still sign Hedo…
It would push the raptors over the cap. Lee will prob get around 8, hughes makes 13 or so, and wilson just makes a mil. Bosh makes 14.4 a year. With that said, cap filler would probably make the trade lopsided already.
If Toronto wants Lee and Chandler you could drop Hughes and add Jeffries and make it work.
It does work under the salary cap. You are working under the false assumption that the deal would be a sign and trade deal. The Knicks can trade Lee and allow T-Raptors to negotiate a new contract for Lee. The same would be true of Bosh.
Bosh– $15.78M
Hughes — $13.66M
Lee– $2.68M
Chandler-$1.26M
Here’s just a thought, but with Rudy wanting out of portland, would portland consider:
Lee and Cuttino’s contract for Rudy, Outlaw, and Lafrentz? Lafrentz and cuttino were thrown in to make the numbers work. Outlaw has an expiring next year and portland is looking to shop him anyways. We get a 2-guard of the future. They get Lee which could lead to a scary front court with aldridge and oden. Aldridge is also a free agent next year, so Lee provides security as well.
Aldridge at the 3 spot? im not sure that works.
I never said Aldridge at the 3. I said that the three of them could run the front court. One of them coming off of the bench.
So Lamarcus Aldridge – arguably their best player last year is going to rotate in the front court with Lee and Odom?
They are going to offer Aldridge a big contract extension this summer and build around him.
just dont see Portland as a Lee suitor..
Oden not Odom, but with that aside, why did portland push for lee so much last year then? Because Oden is a toss up as although he has tons of potential, he is often injured. If he gets hurt, who backs him up? Joel Pryzbilla? The fact is that Lee could provide size to that lineup, even coming off of the bench. And the only piece they lose is rudy who wants out of portland anyways. They still have brandon roy at the 2 guard obviously also.
I meant Oden obviously
Pryzbilla has backed up Oden pretty solidly when Oden has been hurt. And in fact started over him late last year when Oden would get in quick foul trouble.
I think they wanted Lee as a 6th man and not part of an 11 million dollar contract. That is what Lee would need to accept a S&T to Portland. Im not too sure they would pay Bartlesman’s “full price” for Lee to come off the bench.
Things were different last year when Lee was making 2 something million and playing 20 some minutes a game.
So how is Lee and Cuttino for Rudy fernandez and Outlaw better than Sessions and Bruce Bowen for Lee and Duhon? Rudy NEVER played in PTown. Outlaw would duplicate Chandler and provide none of the defense/vet leadership that Bowen would.
Lee’s an upgrade to pryzbilia.
And I know, hence why he could work off of the bench.
And I suppose, but either way, I feel like they would still want him consider how he “broke out” this year.
And Rudy put up 10.5 a game playing 25 minutes a game. Ramon put up 12.7 in 27 minutes. Outlaw is an expiring that can shoot from the outside and provide minutes off the bench for the next year. Bowen doesn’t work for our system at all although he does provide d. I’d prefer rudy and outlaw personally. This is assuming we don’t get a point like kidd.
Nate and Al Harrington were the Knicks top scorers last season. They are not spare parts. The problem with some of the trades being discussed is they are not in connection with the blow up of a team. You will recall that when Memphis decided to move the expensive contract of Pau Gasol, they gave him away to LAL for Kwane Brown, Javaris Chrittenton and Aaron McKie their 48th pick in 2007 (Marc Gasol) and first round draft picks in 2008 and 2010. Since the picks are LAL you know they will be at the end of the first round. Where are the players in this group who are better than Nat and/or Al. When a team is ready to dump that is when the recieving team hits the home run. We got to wait for a team in the dump mode.
But you have to accept the fact that nate is not in our plans. He impedes our 2010 free agency signing ability. In regards to harrington, I agree that he was a key player to us last year, but if we can upgrade in a major way and in order to do so, harrington needs to be involved, well then I think most of us would agree that we would need to get rid of him.
Barnaby: I fully agree Nate and Al are trade pieces. In the right setting I believe they are enough to get an important piece for the Knicks future. We need to find a team that is ready to dump that important piece. Could be Amare, Bosh, Nowitzki, etc. Just like Memphis did with Pau Gasol with its dump to LAL.
I agree, but with that said, I wouldn’t object to (as stated above) harrington, hughes, and jeffries for t-mac, landry, and brooks. The key pieces would obviously be harrington, jeffries, t-mac, and brooks. Harrington provides the rockets with ppg lost by yao. Hughes just replaces T-Mac who they never have b/c he’s often injured anyways. Jeffries provides defense for them, but even bigger for us, provides cap relief. For us, we get whatever we can out of t-mac for a year, landry is a big man role player, and we try out brooks in our system for a year (since he’s a free agent next year) and see how he does. Worse comes to worse, we at least get cap relief out of it and harrington would be a free agent next year anyways.
Barnaby: you got my vote. T-Mac could have some juice left. Aaron Brooks is a comer as is Landry. And to top it off we get Jeffries off the books for cap room. Now you are creatively thinking. With Al Harrington in Houston we will have to get the buckets from the other kids.
EVERYONE on this roster is a trade piece.
In order to find a Gasol type deal you have to talk to Wallace at Memphis. No one is as bad as him.
Biggie: how about the guy who just traded for Zach Randolph. Oh, that was Wallace. Sorry
I truly believe we may be able to get some sort of junk deal done with Houston that can benefit both parties. If somehow/someway Eddy Curry comes back in shape and ready to play and Yao’s outlook is not looking good, we might be able to swing a T-Mac and Lowery for Curry and maybe Hughes or some other Curry combination that would get Houston a 2 guard.
Wishful thinking maybe… but Salaries match.
as seen here:
Trade Machine Save
Not such a crazy idea. A couple of years ago Eddy Curry was the face of the Knicks franchise. Somebody loved Eddy then. Could happen.
Haven’t I been saying this trade since draft day?!?!
Harrington for Rubio.
They might want even want Duhon to be their combo-G off the bench behind Flynn and whoever at 2. Cradinal’s expiring matches.
Kidd
Hughes
Chandler
Lee
Darko
——-
Gallo
Rubio
Hill
Curry
Toronto Star claims the Raptor are hot on the trail of David Lee. I believe the Raptors have 8 million in cap room. Is that enough for Lee. Can anyone think of a sign and trade of Lee that makes sense? How about Bargnani??
Well, considering I would trade either Harrington or Nate for cold mug of beer in the summer or a hot cup of chocolate in the winter, getting rid of both of them for Rubio would probably involve pleasuring myself in ways I can’t describe on a family blog. LOL
Seriously, I can’t see how either of these guys is ever going to play a major role on a championship team.
Nate and Al should be energy guys that give you 15 minutes a night when you are down by 20 and are desperate for an amazing offensive run to get you back in it (at which point you immediately yank them). They are both too inconsistent, immature, and self centered to be a major force on a championship team.
I wish the Knicks would stop talking about players like Kidd, T-Mac, and Grant Hill. W&D are losing credibity in my eyes with these total waste of time discussions.
The Knicks don’t need any “has been” players. We already have enough “never were” players. The Knicks are not going to be ready to make a push until these guys are totally shot. So what’s the point. Bring in young guys and develop a team. Do we really need the 8th seed so bad that we have to create an “old timers” team?
The only way someone like Kidd makes sense is if we got our hands on a young PG that wasn’t ready to start. That way Kidd could mentor him and hold down the fort until he was ready.
Hill makes no sense at all and T-Mac only makes sense if you could get rid of Curry. Then I would just tell him to stay home to avoid getting hurt. LOL
TOTALLY AGREE!
Lakers land Artest-
Ron Artest is signing with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to CBSSports.com …
Yo where are the real Knick fans at? Build around “_avi_” Lee? Are you guys nuts? The Knicks are synonymous with tough Defense and _avi_ is just incapable or too incompetent to play any. Someone mentioned Bargnani in a trade with Toronto? WTF?!! Let’s just turn the lane into a red carpet for visiting teams! Disgusting man absolutely disgusting.
Mike D’antoni needs to hire a defensive coordinator.
With the recent rumors of Rudy Fernandez being infuriated with the Blazers for going after Hedo Turkoglu I think the Knicks can use that to make a big splash in the Ricky Rubio sweepstakes. If the Blazers get Hedo it would instantly make Rudy expendable which could make the Blazers a third team in a trade. The Knicks could ship Lee and if needed Nate to Portland in a sign and trade as the Blazers send the T-Wolves a much needed potential star Shooting Guard and the Knicks land there dream guard in Ricky Rubio.
Nate(signed), Jeffries
for
Farmer, Morrison, Fisher(waived and resigned by LA)
Since there doesnt seem to be any teams willing to pay Lee straight up, maybe…
3 way trade Knicks, Warriors & TWolves
Knicks get Belinelli, Rubio & Cardinal
Warriors get Lee
TWolves get Monte Ellis & Chandler & Jeffries
