What happens if the Knicks land Lebron? or even if Chandler keeps improving? Gallo was drafted to be the 4, always was. He’s Dantoni’s dream 4. A guy who will shoot from outside and open the lane for the guards to attack. A big that can play high pick and roll. You don’t need a thuggish 4 in the NBA anymore. It’s not 1995, the rules have changed and when the Knicks have a shot blocking center they will play more zone defense like Orlando does with Lewis at the 4.

The argument can be made that without Z-Bo and Craw (2 players already at their celings) that other players (Chandler, Nate) were able to improve with increased minutes and shots and that may not have happend had Donnie not shipped those 2 players.

It was simply an argument for addition by subtraction.

Also remember though, Zach was injured and didn’t even help the Clippers much and Craw was in Nelsons dog house, so the Knicks were actually a better team by trading those guys based simply on what happened after those trades occurred. Harrington probably had a biggger impact on the Knicks than both Z-BO and Crawford had for their respective teams combined last year.

So in both contexts the Knicks were better without Zach and Jamal.

The biggest move in the Knicks made in the last 15 years was Donnie creating cap space and most people here will be willing to sabotage that for mediocre players….

Then they’ll say” why do we need cap space, there’s no gauantee free agents (Lebron, Wade, Bosh) will sign!…boo hoo hoo”…

Seriously this isn’t Charlotte, or Memphis, it’s New York City. New York has an inherent advantage over any other team in Free Agency. Endorsements, Fame, Legend, Madison Square Garden, the Mystique. As long as New York has cap space you could sign that midget family from that one reality show and Lebron will probably sign. For anyone to suggest that the Knicks will end up with unused cap space because no superstar elected to sign in NYC is the most ignorant asinine thought out there.

Also, like I’ve had to remind people, if you strike out on Lebron the game isn’t over. Cap space doesn’t just mean free agents. If you are under the cap you can trade for players without having to trade salary back out. The cap will shrink for the first time since the CBA started and there will be a unique situation of teams willing to trade star players for nothing but cap space to avoid luxury tax. There are teams facing the possibility of not being able to meet operating costs. If we eat into cap space now for more back-ups or one dimensional players then we will get to watch other teams who had patience reap the rewards.

Providing yourself with the most valuable commodity (Available Money) in the NBA is risky? I think it’s great to finally have a plan and swing for the fences in Lebron – Nothing is wrong with that!!!
