We got some action…Not Knicks

by Tommy Dee on July 9th, 2009 at 12:28 pm

Via Ric Bucher’s Tweet:

“…Cavs fans, you got your athletic wingman. They’re close to a deal w/Anthony Parker. Two yrs, under $6 mill…

Bucher is also reporting that the Hedo to Toronto deal is a sign and trade with the Magic getting back 10 million…

Antonio McDyess headed to SA for 15 million

  • KBT1615

Parkers only good in up tempo systems…dont see how that is going to work.

  • BiggieSmalls

Is Anthony Parker really good in ANY System?

  • Chris Alvino

They needed a biggger shooting guard. Gibson and West are not ideal fits next to a Mo Williams. Parker gives some scoring and size off bench.

  • BiggieSmalls

i guess he is the best they could do.. not saying much..

6’6 tweener guys who put up 11 point and 4 boards in 33 minutes a game are not what i’d call significant additions. decent shooter but doesnt put up enough shots.

Cleveland should have made a play for Matrix.

  • illsun

How does the Magic get back 10 mill ?

  • BiggieSmalls

Traded Player Exception .. it’s actually less because of Base Year Comp.

  • EQ1217

The Magic got a trade exception of 10mil.

I believe they can acquire any player by free agency or by trade as long as he’s making less than 10 mil

  • EQ1217

Is it just my frustration talking or are we really putting our entire off-season on hold until a 36 year old injury prone player can decide whether or not he wants to play here.

  • illsun

well, what more were you expecting from this summer ?
i’m dissapointed the rubio thing didn’t work out (yet)
but after that, i didn’t have too many expectations.

  • illsun

i think parker is one of those high iq players who play well w/o the ball. a nice complimentary player.
he did play overseas for many years.

although he was mvp, so i don’t know if that negates my argument that hes good w/o the ball.

  • Mal

Parker is a better shooter than the Matrix, he and Matt Barnes seem as same same.
EQ1217 I hear you, I said I wasnt gonna complain about FA and situation anymore but its difficult when you see a kindred spirit. DW has not impressed me or is it more the shyt he was handed by Zeke and it a large mountain to climb?
How does the Rockets get an exemptin for Yao but NBA turned us down when we asked for one for Cuttino?

  • CircleLimit4

We, and pretty much every other team knew of his condition.

  • Chris Alvino

    I know right.

  • Mal

    Illsun
I think I was expecting something from either dealing D Lee or Nate and possibly Jeffries and long shot E Curry. I know we got until Feb trade deadline to see more changes, I guess right now its been too quiet for me and the BS of trying to sign the geriatric (sp) bunch in Kidd and G Hill…not liking

  • Mal

So you’re saying DW knew this and was trying to pull the okedoke? I didnt think he was aware? Ok thats answers my question, thanks

  • KLewis

People’s expectations are unrealistic.. What move were the Knicks going to make that:

    A) Significantly improves us this year (Im talking about 50 wins signiticant)
    B) doesn’t affect the 2010 push

Donnie is doing all he can… Some people are just impatient.. Walsh was handed a handful of sh1t and he’s trying his best to get the Knicks back to a championship contending level.

  • bmathews77

Danny Ferry really likes putting Old players around Lebron and that is not going to help the Cavaliers win. Lets see…

    Shaquille O’neal – 37 years old
Zydrunas Illgauskas – 34 years old
Anthony Parker – 34 years old

God forbid if they resign Joe Smith and Wally Szerbiack. The Cavs are going to look like an old folks home.

  • knicksbro

It’s all good we’re getting Rubio.

  • Mal

No arguments, Im more impatient than anything and I comment when I see others feel like I do.
But Bosh or Amare would be that 50 win move. I think S&T D Lee and a few other pieces somehow for one of those guys makes it possible

  • illsun

i understand your passion. but patience, young grasshopper.
rome wasn’t built in a day.

and as for dlee and nate, we are in the driver’s seat.
let;s see if anyone makes an offer on one of them, and then well do something.
    why compete against ourselves.

  • illsun

impatience is the same disease isiah had.

  • bmathews77

I agree but at the same time you can only be so patient before other teams get ahead of you and take deals you could’ve had.

  • Bruno

As much as I love DLee, he’d be a better fit in Toronto between Bargnangi(sp?) and Hedo than Bosh. Maybe there’s a S&T in the works, but I doubt it.

  • evile55

Let them add as many old pieces and they can all the better for everyone in 2010. Ferry’s gunning for the Isiah Thomas award for most delusional and lost Gm/prez award. If he was worried Kahn was giving him comp he has nothing to worry about. Ferry was an arrogant player in the NBA and now he’s arrogant in the front office.
All these moves going around are pretty much making the Knicks job easier. No one is going after Lee or Nate so Donnie can take his time there. No one’s offering Houston any center help or help with T-Mac’s contract and the Knicks are sitting on Curry for when they come kncocking. Klewis is right, they are doing the best they can with the crap they got, but if anyone’s keeping track; Crawford, Randolph and Richardson are all gone, 3 of the “large” contracts that couldn’t been moved.

  • bob go knicks

if DONNIE WALSH was building it,ROME wouldnt have been built at all.

  • bob go knicks

    in about 8 days right?

  • illsun

any examples of deals we could’ve had ?

  • illsun

oooooh. i like the sound of that.

  • bob go knicks

and our team still stinks, but now we are boring too

  • illsun

oh boy. all aboard the exxageration train !

  • illsun

its def more exciting than the twin towers* team that we had a year and a half ago.

    * = zbo and curry

  • bob go knicks

we’re gonna have to wait on that colosseum thing,i gotta get a better price on mortar

  • bmathews77

And we don’t have that ridiculous 2 point guard (if u can call them that) backcourt of Steve Francis and Stephon Marbury.

  • CircleLimit4

Bob is a big fan of the hyperbole.

  • Bart

There are move Walsh can make that wont affect the Cap he just won’t do anything.

  • KBT1615

BOB FILL ME IN. I know we never get along but FILL ME IN.

  • bob go knicks

im really not talking about the team itself ,just the off season moves

  • bob go knicks

we dont even have a point guard

  • Bart

Your Nuts if you think its that hard to dump Salary in the NBA thats what Walsh has done trading bad contracts for Talent not so easy.

  • bob go knicks

if i tell you ,they will kill me,i dont care about myself (im old and in the way)but my family.i have a beautiful wife 19 years my junior

  • illsun

    any examples, bart ?

  • CircleLimit4

Supposedly. Biggie pointed me towards a good Outside the Lines report explaining the whole situation. Cuttino definitely new about it and so did the Clips.

  • CircleLimit4

    Or the Spurs.

  • KBT1615

Bob come on man what are you and Knicksbro talking about?

  • illsun

    so bart..
about “There are move Walsh can make that wont affect the Cap he just won’t do anything.”

care to give an example ? im curious

  • illsun

    nice! +1

  • KLewis

What deal would have actually made a difference?

  • KLewis

Ridiculous.. I guess we shouldve kept Crawford and Randolph and gunned for 7th in the East…

  • KLewis

So am I.. I’m very curious to see this move that Mr Walsh has missed in the offseason.

  • knicksbro

Alright I have no idea wtf Bob is talking about but I’m very confident we will get Rubio.

  • knicksbro

Just be patient, and trust Donnie. He’s not blind, he knows we don’t have a Point Guard. The silence is a good thing…Walsh has something cooking just trust him. He drafted Reggie Miller over Steve Alford and everyone thought he was insane. He knows what he’s doing.

  • knicksbro

If this was Isiah right now we’d have signed Ben Gordon for a 100 million dollar deal.

  • Bruno

No. We’d need cap room to do that. Isiah would’ve pissed it all away on Shaq, trying to go with a Shaq, Curry, Z-Bo frontline.

  • Bruno

YOU’RE nuts if you think it’s easy to dump dead weight on other teams not GM’s by Zeke.

  • bmathews77

Isiah would probably then sign Allen Iverson saying he will save the franchise.

  • Mal

    Illsun
Yes Im impatient but young grasshopper hmmmm I guess, though I do remember watching our (2) championships.

    Bruno
I mentioned it would be win-win if Toronto’s Mr Colangelo did a S&T with Bosh for Lee simply because Toronto’s retooled lineup wouldnt have to run plays for D Lee as they would have to get Bosh’s his touches. Where if he was a Knick Darko could benefit on Bosh double teams :)

    knicksbro
The J Tinsley in Indy is all DW’s handiwork

    Evile55
Please I hope Houston comes a calling with their lack of a center

  • bob go knicks

seriously, with me ,its only just a hunch, when before the draft, chris alvino was talking about how you couldnt trade restricted free agents, until 2 weeks or so after the draft unless you made an “under the table” deal . well the night of the draft, when the T-WOLVES G.M picked his 2nd point guard in a row,i figured maybe he has a hand shake deal with the knicks that cant be done for acouple of weeks.then last week that cryptic message from DONNIE WALSH to the associated press about “ive got some leeway but its something i dont talk about” i figured he was doin the deal for RUBIO .i know that itsounds far fetched, but its fun, LOL

  • Bruno

Actually: Shaq, Curry, Randolph, Chandler, AI would be an interesting 5.

  • knicksbro

How would Rubio give them leeway with cap space?

  • KBT1615

O, I thought he had some article or something.

  • EQ1217

Donnie traded Curry for Rubio, lol

  • illsun

    its a saying.

  • knicksbro

Seriously though, is there a way that when he said he had leeway it could have been about Rubio?

  • Bruno

    JJ?

  • knicksbro

I’m sick of all this Grant Hill and T-Mac talk. Who cares? The only good thing to talk about is Rubio because he’s a good YOUNG piece that we actually NEED.

  • josh h

Is anybody else excited about Darko coming to NY other than me? I think he is going to atleast be a 8pt 5 reb guy for us. He will add more interior defense to our team, plus if he sucks then he’s out. And honestly, if DW trades Curry and gets a guy like T-Mac, then he has the ability to turn water into wine, because that my friends would be a miracle!

  • knicksbro

    What about JJ?

  • Bruno

    In a Rubio deal…

I know it doesn’t make sense, but it would allow for the flexibility DW mentioned.

  • Bruno

I am. Darko could be Dalembert with w jumper for us (I hope).

  • bob go knicks

    now yer catching on!

  • bob go knicks

    I THINK IT MOVED!

  • bob go knicks

IS IT better to make the 7th seed or not to make the playoffs at all until 2012 ,when ZACHS contract woulda ran out anyway?

  • knicksbro

It can’t be Rubio then. I’m thinking maybe Nate and JJ to Sac or the Eddy Curry T-Mac thing, but I feel like that’s not happening for a while.

  • knicksbro

Why is everyone saying we suck and we are boring? I think it will be a more exciting year than last year, and for the most part last year was pretty exciting, and we had a TON of close games. I am SO excited to see Gallinari getting more minutes. He was the most exciting to watch last year, and now he’s going to be playing a lot. Also, we have Jordan Hill and Toney Douglas now as well as Darko…we should be competitive and I’m still expecting the 8th seed…

  • josh h

7th seed. guaranteed. and we will lose to Shaq and the Cavs in the first round

  • knicksbro

Does anyone else besides me think we have a legit shot of winning 40 games?

  • Mal

I was kinda excited last year when they mentioned Darko but it never happened. I like to believe Darko now being in the league 6 years has grown into his body, now should he have been the #2 pick nah. I like to think he would thrive in DAntoni’s Euro system, he does go after shots shots something D Lee doesnt and being left handed he blocks shots. In the Mike DAntoni system Darko maybe able to show why he was so highly coveted in the first place, that is my hope. You know they say be careful what you wish for. Another person who I’d like for us to pick up would be Vlad Radmonovic from Bobcats because of the DAntoni system, I think thats why Mike wants Rubio to run his offense. You surround Lebron or another stud with the Euros and one bruiser too preach defense it could be pretty nice

  • bob go knicks

    what about ball handling?

  • bob go knicks

you cant expect the rookies to get that many minutes.i am excited about GALLO though.i think last year was more frustrating than exciting.,watching them blow 4th quarter leads with bone-head plays, and seeing D’antoni pull out his hair because of NATE plays or LEES DEFENSIVE MISTAKES

  • bob go knicks

    NO
