Blazers Have Offer To Millsap

by Chris Alvino on July 10th, 2009 at 9:23 pm

Chris Broussard has reported that the Blazers are going to make an offer of 4 years and between $32-36 million to the free agent power forward Paul Millsap.  The Jazz will have 7 days to match the contract.

Millsap is widely regarded as the free agent whose deal will have the biggest impact on David Lee‘s next deal.  So this deal might be a sign of what Lee can expect for his next contract.  Also, a Paul Millsap lite type of player, Brandon Bass, has signed an offer sheet for 4 years worth close to $18 million.

Broussard also has reported that the Jazz have no intentions of keeping Boozer for the long term and that they will likely try to trade him.  The reported 3 way with Portland and Chicago might not have legs, especially now that the Blazers have made the offer to Millsap.

The Blazers are setting the free agent process in motion for the Knicks with David Lee and the Jazz with Millsap.  Kudos  to them for that.  The next week will be very interesting to watch play out.  With Grant Hill having rejected the Knicks, Donnie Walsh still has some room to wiggle.

I am surprised to hear that the Knicks have interest in Boozer.  Boozer is a very good player, but not the ideal player for our system.  While Boozer is the kind of player that the Bulls, Pistons or the Nets can use, the Knicks would be better off with a player like Bosh or Amare.  Just a thought.

But if anything comes out of the Boozer to the Knicks talks, I would imagine that the Jazz would somehow end up with Lee, and Millsap would end up in Portland.

I just do not see Boozer in a Knicks uniform.  The interesting part about Boozer is that he might not command a full max contract, unlike players like Amare and Bosh.

Stay tuned….

Boozer is still only 27 but he’s so injury prone. Lee & Mobley’s insured contract for Boozer and our pick back? Utah probably doesnt want to be in the luxury tax

Paul Milsap is a throwback player. He is an effort player and he gets the most out of his ability with his work ethic. The exact opposite of _avi_ Lee. What Milsap gets (contract offer) determines Lee’s payday by position only. They’re 2 different type of players. Lee is more fluid on the offensive end, but Milsap is a space eater and stud on the defensive end not to mention he crashes the boards with the best of them.

Lee won’t end up in Utah and if he does he’ll be in Jerry Sloan’s doghouse early and often. Sloan takes no excuses when it comes to trying on defense and _avi_ is a liability on that end. On the other hand maybe a coach like Sloan can get the most out of Lee on that end of the floor, but he will be riding Lee like a rented mule for the duration of his contract if he ends up there.

Hoopsworld is saying that Yahoo is reporting that the Knicks will offer Miller the same Kidd deal.

At first thought, I didnt like the idea of signing Miller. But I think it would be a good signing, we need a PG desperately and he’s really good in the open court

as long as we dont trade for jeff francour I will be happy…

no offense meant to you CHRIS ,but if i hear one more person use the phrase “IN D’ANTONI’S SYSTEM” im gonna have a cow.BOOZER is an all-star,and anyone who is good enough to be an all-star ,can play in any system.if DAVID LEE ,can play in this system,Surely BOOZER can

I’d assume OKC has a role in this also..

They have some money to spend and their main priority this offseason was to get a rebounder…Millsap was there first choice and if he goes to Portland or stays in Utah then OKCs full focus would turn to DLee, and they have some money to spend…some money that we probably wouldnt match…

And if we do lose Lee(i still dont think we will), I dont think panic mode is necessary, we dont have to go out a trade for Bosh, Amare, Boozer…JHill is capable of taking over those duties..plus hes already a better defender…

    LOL hilarious

Dont want Boozer in this system even his college coach couldnt find time for him in the Olympics.

The Milsap offer may mean D Lee stay in NY unless Utah matches it and if they do Donnie W needs to work some type of S-n-T for D Lee

Im not rying to pee nayone off but I really havent been impressed with DW yet

JHill Im going down and watch in the summer league because I hear a lot of rumors of Earl Clark kicking his a$$ when they played Louisville and Clark was available when we drafte Hill
