Curry Down 50 LBs?

by Tommy Dee on July 10th, 2009 at 9:45 am

If Curry put on weight from media day- then he currently would have to still be over 3 bills. And trainers are always positive- they are businessmen too.

Still this is a good sign.

Via Alan Hahn:

“…Eddy Curry has been ordered by the Knicks to report to the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas so that team president Donnie Walsh and his staff can monitor the progress of Curry’s offseason diet and conditioning program, according to Jerry Powell, one of Curry’s offseason trainers.

Curry will not play for the Knicks summer league team but is expected to be on the court for the second workout of a two-a-day session Sunday at Valley High in Las Vegas, where the Knicks will work out before their summer league opener Tuesday at UNLV.

Powell says Curry, who began a strict diet and fitness regimen set up by California-based strength coach Tommy Weatherspoon in May and began workouts with Powell in June, has lost almost 50 pounds.

“They want to see what he looks like,” Powell told Newsday. “They want to see him get up and down with the summer league team and practice…”

I’m sure the Knicks also want other teams to see how he looks as well. Maybe the Rockets need to see Curry before pulling the trigger on a deal involving McGrady for Curry

  • KBT1615

If this is right David Lee weighs more than Eddy now……WOW.

  • MoSports

Shoulda put picture of Richard Simmons instead!

  • j

losing 50 pounds when you’re a whale of a man isn’t as difficult as normal sized people… but its good to hear that he’s down to half a ton now. wait what?

  • bmathews77

And I’m sure Curry will easily put back 50lbs or more after he is traded or the next offseason. Can’t change a lazy person like him.

  • italian stallion

Losing 50 pounds is impressive, but we have to keep in mind that at the end of the season he had probably ballooned up to 320-340.

  • Magik_Trick

The last report on him was that his house was under foreclosure, he should be motivated enough to lose another 50

  • BiggieSmalls

The conventional wisdom was Curry ballooned to 350 pounds

Losing 50 is good.. he heeds to keep going.. he is his best at around 265/270 — especially with the amount of running & gunning D’Antoni demands.

isnt Lee closer to 235/240 or even less? i remember him saying he slimmed down by 15 lbs from his previous playing weight (240?) to fit the 7SOL

  • Bart

Best off season move so far I don’t like that he’s not playing but 46 – 50 lbs thats a start, good move by the Knicks.

  • gbaked

actually, with all the horrible stuff he has went through (forget the house and $$ stuff… talking about what happened to his ex and children) could be enough to change a man.

he has had a very intense year off the court. I have a feeling he is going to turn to on the court improvement to help himself.

i have a real good feeling about eddie curry this year.

  • Bart

    Isn’t 265 – 270 ideal weight for Curry?

  • EQ1217

He needs to lose another 50lbs

  • knicksbro

Somehow Curry finds ways to actually GAIN weight during the season though…

  • Mal

Losing 50 from what because we knew his reported weight last year was not correct lol?

    Knicksbro
Last year it seemed like I watch QRich gain weight during the season.

Tuesday I shall mosey down and watch the guys play

  • jho

Hopefully Curry continues to rededicate himself. I mean the plan has always been to trade him, but who knows? This sounds ridiculous, but if he’s become a new man, we might not really need to look elsewhere for our Center position.

  • jg2112

    Too funny.

  • bob go knicks

    LEE wieghs over 300lbs?

  • levy858

Yahoo Sports is reporting that Grant Hill resigned with the Suns.
And that Nash is going to sign a 3 year extension.

  • KBT1615

My fault I thought he was out of shape I didn’t know he gained a extra 60 pounds

  • EQ1217

OK, with that out the way maybe Donnie can get down to business now

  • Jack D

haha yeah…all he had to do to lose that wieght was NOT devour everything in site

but all kidding aside, this is good news

  • Jack D

i don’t disagree with you there..i was thinking the same thing

  • KBT1615

DW’s going after Andre Miller now..

  • barnaby8787

Am I the only person who feels like DW is not going to get anyone this off-season? I feel like there is no way miller is accepting the MLE from a team that needs to rebuild. Besides Miller, how many choices are really left? The bucks said they would match any offer for sessions. I mean, our opportunities are numbered. With that said, D-Lee wants 12 mil per year, which made me laugh big time. In general, I definitely see us going into the year with our team as is and d-lee and nate accepting the one-year-contracts and becoming UFA’s next year when the economy is turned around a little bit. If i’m right, we have no chance of making the playoffs. Everytime in the east has improved more than we have w/ the exception of probably just the nets, bucks, and pacers. Other teams like the bobcats haven’t improved much, but will still be better than us due to such a young, developing team.

  • fracch209

Its a fact, no one wants to play for the knicks! These r signs of the future, we gonna get no one in 2010, unless we trade for rubio, this whole summer where knicks fans thought the roster would be a lot different, would be a bust. No one can help the knicks!

  • barnaby8787

I seriously can’t take the trading for rubio anymore. The odds of us getting him at this point are slim to none. As knick fans, we have to let it go and be more realistic b/c there are plenty of qualified guards out there and plenty of trades that could be done. The problem is that DW is being very conservative at the moment and he needs to take some chances while also keeping the cap in mind.

  • EQ1217

If we offer Miller anything more than a 1 year contract, I have to start wondering if 2010 is still the plan.

Even though I wasn’t a fan of trying to sign Kidd & Hill, at least they were considered ultimate professionals and winners. I like Miller and everything but I don’t see him in the same class as Kidd or Hill.

  • Bart

Yeah there was so much said that the roster would be drastically different, looks like were gonna have the exact same team with the exception of J.Hill Douglas and Darko (BTW Darko for Q is not even a trade in my opinion) but there is some time left before the season starts I guess we will see.

  • barnaby8787

I agree and I also love how everyone was saying that kidd/g.hill were washed up and old. Andre is 33. If we sign him to a 3 year deal, his productivity for us over the next 3 years would be a toss up.

  • coocoo4knicks

I’m not sure why we should give up on acquiring Rubio.
He is considered to be an all-star talent PG with a very high ceiling, and a great fit for SSOL.
He wants to play in NYC. Minnesota is in a bind with him as he doesn’t have to go there.
We have some pieces (Chandler) that would strengthen ‘sota.
DW has a good relationship with Kahn.
It is not out of the question that we can acquire Rubio.
I’m fine with pursuing other PGs with more talent than Duhon, but I’m not able to easily identify any that we could likely trade for. Can you help me out.

  • coocoo4knicks

A few things will be different this year.
    1) No Marbury distractions
    2) We know Duhon will run out of gas if we don’t have a decent backup for them.
    3) Chandler, Lee, Nate should all be a bit better
    4) We have someone who is actually a center and who can actually play defense.
    5) We have two talented rookies

  • KBT1615

What other PG in 2010 would we get?
Nash is signing a 3 year extension.

  • Mucha

    LMAO I love the picture.
