It sounds as if the Knicks will soon announce the signing of lottery pick Jordan
Hill soon as they are working out the final details, TKB has learned. In fact, the deal was supposed to be done today.
Nothing to report on the Ricky Rubio situation and I’d expect it to be like that for a while. I talked about that situation on in my SNY.tv space today.
The bottom line for me is that now the Knicks have to turn up the heat and start aggressively pushing for upgrades and from what I’m hearing, there is nothing on the docket of any significance.
I’m pretty shocked that Grant Hill left the money on the table, but at the end of the day I should have considered him a longshot.
I seriously doubt Andre Miller is coming, the guy is a legit point guard in this league who’s worth a good salary. He won’t get that here, so let’s not go down that road. You can argue that Miller has the same value as Jason Kidd.
This was a pretty tough week for the Knicks depending on how you want to look at it, and this team does need to take some steps to show it’s fanbase that it’s trying to improve.
If you want to get detailed accounts on the infamous camp dunk, head to Zagsblog.

Honestly I’m not dissapointed that Hill or Kidd dd not want to come here, I didn’t really think that was what we needed, more so Hill then Kidd
if anything this shows Donnie that players want to go to winning situations not losing ones
I know people will counter that if Lebron were here we would be winners also, but why would he want to come here? so he can raise the level of play of a bunch of ragtag players?
Honestly are we even sure Lebron has the temperment to play on ny? If anything he has shown to be somewhat sensitive, with the Magic series & the videotape at his camp. Could u imagine the headlines if either of those things happened in NY?
Thats the point in us having to get into the playoffs and drive a good team far like Atlanta did against the Celts two years ago. So we can show the world we aren’t the Laughingstck of this league….THE KINGS ARE..
All we needed was Kidd. I’ll settle for Rubio/Duhon thought, because even if we don’t make the playoffs this year, at least the future would be bright. I just don’t want Utah getting a high pick.
EVERYONE MAKES UP THESE DUMB TRADES THAT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN. LOOK & THINK ABOUT THIS TRADE…
1. KNICKS WANT RUBIO AND MONEY OFF THE CAP RIGHT?
2. BLAZERS WANT LEE RIGHT?
3. TIMBERWOLVES WOULD WANT BACK SOMETHING FOR RUBIO RIGHT?
SO WHY NOT DO..
KNICKS GET RUBIO AND TAKE BRIAN CARDINAL A BAD CONTRACT FROM MINNESOTA.
BLAZERS GET DAVID LEE, COREY BREWER FROM MINNESOTA AND 2 MILLION FROM THE KNICKS
TWOLVES GET AL HARRINGTON, RUDY FERNANDEZ FROM PORTLAND AND A 2012 FIRST ROUNDER.
Not sure that Portland wants Lee for 9 mil..
But them getting Lee and Corey brewer for Rudy F. and a first rounder is a very very good deal for them — i’d say lopsided.
Doesnt sound like the Knicks are getting enough for Al Harrington and D Lee.. (Rubio and Cardinal?)
For arguments sake I could see Lee going to Portland for Outlaw and Rudy F. with Rudy F. and Al Harrington being flipped for Rubio and say Cardinale
Why does Minnesota want Harrington? Is he going to play the 3? He can’t play the 4 with Love and Jefferson already there.
Fernandez would be a desirable pick up for them though.
What about Outlaw, Fernandez, and 2 million for Rubio and Cardinal?
You’re essentially trading Lee for Rubio and I’d do that trade in a New York minute.
Rubio will be a Knick when all is said and done.

“This was a pretty tough week for the Knicks depending on how you want to look at it, and this team does need to take some steps to show it’s fanbase that it’s trying to improve.”
Really? I thought they were just trying to cut payroll? What significant moves have the Knicks made to get better?
i hate to say it, but looking at how both Hill and Kidd opted not to sign with NY might be an omen a bad things to come next summer…
not that i really wanted either player … but in the end they opted not to sign with the losing team ….i think the knicks on court performance this year will be more vital to their chances of signing an 2010 top flight FA than we originally thought …… i mean after all … how long can we keep saying …
“hey, come on, its NEW YORK ! “
not really.. Kidd and Hill are two players on the down side who have less than three years left in the league.. Why spend that time as a tutor and not on a guaranteed (maybe) playoff contender… for MORE money to boot.
While we did not get Kidd or Hill this week, I believe the team has improved. We have Milicic, Hill and Douglas. We don’t have Marbury, James, Collins, Randolph, Crawford, Rose or Richardson. We have a limmed down Curry and an uninjured Gallinari. For the most part the team can build on last years results. I believe DW will make changes in personnel in accordance with his plan of no compromising cap space. It should be interesting.
I agree that the Q Rich for Darko is a bigger deal than is being made out to be for us.
fair point about “tutoring” biggie
To the lebron or bust crowd who thinks we are failing by staying young and flexible:
Do you seriously look at this as either get lucky and get lebron to sign with us (its his choice, not ours) or its a failure? There are so many franchise players, new ones emerge every couple of years. 16 months from now there will be a new group of a few unbelievable players who are the future of the league and they will be becoming free agents eventually also.
We can’t control LeBron… ONE player… get over it, he comes or he doesn’t.
yea, of course i want lebron, but you can’t look at it like that its just ridiculous. If we stay young, and keep getting better while maintaining flexibility, then we will eventually get a really great guy or two, we just have to make sure we don’t ruin our chances. Stay flexible, develop players from scratch, and be patient; one of our young guys is bound to become an allstar under d’antoni.
If you look at it as narrowly as “everything is a failure if lebron re-signs ,” than you aren’t really a knicks fan. I want lebron, but i will not consider this a failure if we don’t get him. What we are doing, it isn’t for him. That’s just how the media labels it. it’s for building a good team in general… its for improving and establishing a culture and making sure we have the space to bring in a player LIKE lebron if one every comes our way… this is the way you do it… it takes a while, but this is how you do it. Lebron, Wade, bosh, Durant, Randolph, Beasley, Mayo, Westbrook, Griffin, Rubio, Howard, Chris Paul, carmelo… The list goes on and on, some of those younger ones might become the next chris paul or the next kobe even, and in 3 years there will be 10 more who you couldn’t even name yet.
This isn’t about lebron, you read espn too much.
I can’t wait to see the rookies play in the summer league, specially Douglas, who I never seen play before and everyone seems to rave about him.
Blazers offer Millsap 4 years at 32-36 million, so that pretty much sets the top for Lee
I do agree that the Darko move is a solid one…but let’s talk on the court for a second.
If we do bring back Lee, where are the minutes for Lee, Curry, Darko, Hill and Jeffries if you are going to play Al and Danilo at the 4 at times?
moves are coming…
well hill being a rookie will prolly get very little minutes, curry ,being out of shape or with bad knees will get little minutes,DARKO well, being almost a bust, will get very limited minutes,LEE,will get big minutes,AL n GALLO wil split time at the 3 and 4 i think it all depends on how well eddy curry plays and how he holds up. but AL ,GALLO, and LEE will see the majority of minutes
So we didn’t get Kidd or Hill,
There are reports today that Eddy Curry has dropped 50lbs
and is on his way to Vegas to train with the team.
If this is true and he can play again, then this might be a GOOD week.
If Eddy can compete again he may help the Knicks win or at least
make himself desirable to another team looking for a big young center.
fingers crossed
TOMMY DEE..
YOU LIKE THIS TRADE. IT BENEFITS ALL TEAMS…

Tommy,
I was the caller on a recent radio show that you were on and I stated that free agents use the Knicks as leverage to get their teams to pony up more money. You disagreed, but look at what happened. Granted, the Knicks offered more to Grant Hill, but the Suns ultimately gave him more money than he otherwise would have received. The same rings true of Jason Kidd who wanted to show Cuban that he has some value left in his 36yr old legs. Steve Nash has brilliantly played his cards by repeatedly mentioning his love affair for D’Antoni. Now the Suns are talking about giving him a substantial extension because they do want to keep him and they do not want to lose another person to New York. Donnie Walsh has played his cards patiently, but I believe has to be a tad more aggressive. We still do not have a legitimate low post scorer. We still do not have a legitimate three point threat who can create his own shot. The best we can do is chase 36yr old ball players? And still get burned by them! We have the desire to improve, but I still feel we lack the killer hunger to accomplish our goals. 2010 is our last and only hope.
I agree with everythying you said, but we simply don’t have the ability to pay someone that’s any “good” the money they are worth. So IMO, the idea is to accumulate picks and young talented players, D league players with some potentia, l etc… and hope someone blossoms into a very good player. We also might be able to pull off a trade later. Next year and in 2011 we’ll have a better chance at FAs.
I’m starting to think our chances of landing Rubio are lower than I previously thought. It seems as though as part of any deal, Kahn wants someone to take back a couple of the bad contracts he acquired to get the #5 pick. That leaves the Knicks out.
