Jeffries for Mike James Gaining Steam?
By Tommy Dee - Jul 10, 2009 9:15 am

Via Marc Berman

“…One scenario is the Knicks trading Jeffries back to Washington for guard Mike James, who’s expendable following the Wizards’ additions of Randy Foye and Mike Miller. The contracts of James and Jeffries match…”

It’s a deal that works for both sides, despite the fact that JJ2 has another year on his deal. I’ve always been a big fan of James, hopefully the Wizards are still fans of Jeffries’.

James would give the Knicks solid backcourt depth, but we know that getting that contract off the books is also equally important to that of on court production.

im so tired of hearing about contracts, when are we gonna get some PLAYERS? id like to win a few before i die,get involved in some fierce rivalries(like KNICKS/BULLS) (KNICKS/CELTS) Like the old days. Who ever thought, that to become a sports fan,you would have to be a financial wiz to do so? just play some friggin hoops, get some players in,and leave the money stuff up to the suits.ANYBODY CAN UN-LOAD….I WANNA SEE SOME LOADING

I would do this trade in a heartbeat. But, if the Knicks did this, there’s really no place for James to play and I could see the Knicks either buying him out or releasing him. Although that would be kinda foolish to let all of that money go to waste without trying to save at least some of it in a buyout.

There’s really no room for James, but getting him would help for next year and thus allow Donnie Basketball to be able to make some PRE-2010 moves that makes sense….. Signing point guard Andre Miller is one of the moves Donnie Basketball should make, YESTERDAY already.

Please Donnie stay away from the Geritol Group!….. Kidd and Hill….. yeah….. OVER the HILL too….

I’ve been wanting the Knicks and Wizards to make this trade since last season when the Wizards expressed interest in getting Jeffries back.

This trade would help both teams out. The Wizards want to make a push in the Eastern Conference this coming season and feel that Jeffries who helped them a few years ago can deliver the same intangibles he did last time to get them deep. No question a player like Jeffries is meant for a contending team not a team rebuilding so he would do well in their system.
Mike James would be the backup point guard we need for Duhon and his contract expires in 2010 so we are not losing the main focus either.

Both teams need to get this done.

Great trade for the Knicks, how exactly does it help the Wiz? Jeffries lacks any identifiable basketball skill, remember. Usually when every fan on one team wants to do the deal, it’s not a fair deal. They’re gonna take an extra year of a bad contract to get rid of another bad contract. I don’t see it, but will be very pleased if this happened.

The Knicks have ordered Eddy Curry to report to the Summer League in Las Vegas so that the team can monitor his progress.

Curry won’t play for New York’s summer league team, but will work out with the club on Sunday.

Trainer Jerry Powell says Curry, who began a strict diet and workout regimen in May, has lost almost 50 pounds.

“They want to see what he looks like,” Powell told Alan Hahn Newsday. “They want to see him get up and down with the summer league team and practice.”

Powell added that it’s clear Curry’s “confidence has been damaged.”

Great to hear that Curry has lost 50 lbs. Not sure what that brings his weight down to, but it’s at least a significant improvement.
He absolutely has to practice with the summer league team. That should help shore up his confidence a bit. The Knicks should get him a sports psychologist pronto to work with him. Some psychotherapy to help him deal with the private life issues he had last year would be wise too.

50 pounds is a lot! I can’t imagine he would need to lose much more than that…assuming he’s also in shape.

Oh and Mike James is from Amityville, New York – so he’s a New York product.

It looks like this is something Berman just made up as he so often does? Does anyone else read it that way?

He doesn’t mention any sources so I guess he just picked a “logical trade” and went with it.

We can only wish somehow this comes true.

I would LOVE to see this deal done. I agree that Berman is not at all a reliable source. Basically as credible as any of us posting here. However, it DOES seem to make sense for both teams, and especially the Knicks. Get the backup point guard we need, thin out the bloated frontcourt to make room for our young guys, and get Jeffries off the 2010 books. I actually am one of the few guys that likes Jeffries as a player and thinks he helps, but dammit this is too good to pass up.

Mike James isn’t a nothing either.

Believe or not I like Jeffries except he is so d@mn weak, he doesnt finish around the basket but to lose his contract that would be awesome. I used to like Mike James because he used to play defense, does he still play D?

If we lose Jeffries, we start to shrink again in height, plus assuming we can move Eddie Curry, we should bring C Frye back for pennies give him a second chance but I know Denver, Phoenix and Cleveland are looking at him. We should do our best to be tall and have the length like the Lakers to make defending that much harder on opposing teams.

This is a must make move considering that James would be in our rotation.

No because they actually want Jeffries to keep. It’s not about the cap for them.

i think that was becuase the wizards were a walking triage unit.
they had noone to shoot the ball, and jacking up shots is mike jame’s specialty.

Who is playing behind Duhon as of right now? James would be our backup PG.

The deal makes sense. The Wiz traded Songalia, who was a backup at both forward spot. They also just dealt for Miller and Foye for their backcourt.

If the knicks are not able to get James, does it make sense to pursue Arron Afflalo from Detroit? He is apparently on the block and he will only add 1.9 mil to the cap next season.
Is he someone who would excel in SSOL? He is relatively cheap right now.
What if, we sent Jeffries and Hughes to Washington for James and Miller. Traded for Affalo and then shipped Miller, Nate and Chandler to ’sota for Rubio and Cardinal.

Assuming ’sota would want Miller back, this a face saving trade for Kahn. He would have essentially traded Randy Foye for Wilson Chandler and Nate. That would have been a solid trade for him.

For the Knicks this is the equivalent of Hughes, Nate, and Chandler for Rubio. I would do that trade in a NY minute. Especially if we sign Hill to play the 3.

Not sure who we trade for Affalo, as Detroit would want someone they could cut and not have to count against their cap, but I’m sure we can swing this somehow.

Eh, he’s more of a 2 than a 1. With that aside, I don’t like his game really. I feel like we’d be better off signing cj watson than trading for afflalo. The problem is that afflalo doesn’t excel at anything. He’s ok at best in every facet of his game.
