Jarrett Jack has reportedly signed an offer sheet of 4 years and $20 million, according to ESPN.com. Jack, who torched the Knicks last season,
averaged 13 ppg, 3.4 rpg, and 4.1 apg in over 33 mpg. Jack is only 25 years old.
Jack is a nice player. I liked him in college and I thought he was heavily overshadowed by his ACC mate, Chris Paul. However, Jack is a good guard in his own right. Personally, I think he is more of a scorer than a distributor, but I think he is more capable of playing the point than are other small “combo” guards like Nate or Ben Gordon. He is not in that type of class.
But before there is an outcry for Jack, keep in mind that he is not an ideal starting PG, and I certainly do not think he is a $5 million player.
His numbers as a starter are quite impressive though. I will admit that. Check out his splits here. He really played well down the stretch for the Pacers, who have the right to match this offer.
If he ends up in Toronto, this is a good move for the Raptors. Unlike the Knicks who are trying to build a team to attract a big free agent next summer, the Raptors have a big free agent that they are trying to keep next summer. Players like Jack, Turkoglu, Antoine Wright, and the Bargnani extension should give Bosh the inclination that the Raptors are trying to get better and that they are trying to win with him.
For the Knicks to have offered that type of deal to Jack, they would have tied up an extra $5 million in cap space for next summer on a player that is coming off a career year. Again, he is a good player. Again, he had a great year last year. But really, is he the guy we want leading this team in the future? Is he the floor general that we need? This type of move would have had the Knicks paying big money to a potentially mediocre player.
Andre Miller, if he actually finds his way here, would be a much safer and smarter move in my opinion. With Miller, you know what you are going to get, even if it is only for 3 years. Miller is proven. He has been one of the better and most underrated PGs in the league for quite some time. Signing Jack would have bee an attempt to find a diamond in the rough. There is less guessing and less hoping with Miller. He’ll give you 14-15 ppg and 7-8 apg in 35 mpg every night. You can pretty much take that to the bank.

Jarrett Jack could be a good pick up for Toronto not not for the Knicks. We have combo guard Nate Robinson who could continue to progress this year. Given more coaching and more experience on the floor, Nate should continue to progress. Having Toney Douglas pushing Nate will be a big plus. Nate needs to tighten up his defense and needs to avoid being the final option for long misdirected 3 point shots. He is certainly an exciting player and in smaller doses can be a joy to watch. Looking forward to the coming season.
Chris, I respectfully disagree. Jack, combo guard or not, is exactly the type of role player we need on the Knicks. He can shoot. We take those words for granted on this Knicks team. We do not have a consistent shooter who we feel has over a 90% chance of hitting a shot every time the ball leaves his hands. I agree that we should not compromise our hunt in 2010 for big agents, but why can’t we aggressively work to shed salary at the same time? The plus side with Jack is that I see him spreading a defense out because nobody will leave this guy open on the floor. I think this is a huge pick up for the Raptors if they feature Jack on the perimeter.
It’s an excellent move by the Raptors for one reason… because didn’t these two play at Georgia Tech together??… This is an obvious move to please Bosh to stay with the team…. Recently it was said that Bosh was happy with the direction to team was moving in this off-season and this move might have put his chances of staying over the top. Pretty simple logic if you bring in a guys friends to the team he is more likely to be happy and stay put.
by saying “these two” I mean Bosh and Jack

so anybody up for trading Lee for Boozer or you think we have to give them something else? They just want Boozer gone might I add.
O and I think Mike or DW said They only want to sign Miller for 1 year.
_avi_ Lee will languish in Sloan’s doghouse if wound up in Utah for his horrible defense. He may even end up warming the bench or getting spotty minutes sort of like Andrei Kirilenko. A trade for AK47, if they’d be willing to eat some of his contract could be nice, since we’re into reclamation projects (Darko Milicic).
He is a stat stuffer when he is at his best and getting minutes. He is an excellent defender, shot blocker, rebounder and decent passer who would probably flourish in D’antoni’s SSoL. Problem is he would probably would be coming off the bench which he doesn’t like doing there already. Hmmmm… scratch that. What do you guys think?
http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Andrei-Kirilenko-3171/
They’d have to et some of his salary though, his contract and that number is ugly.
Kirilenko trade is an interesting one. Rumor has it Utah has offered to take McGrady for him. We could give up Larry Hughes and Cuttino Mobley’s insurance contract. How would Utah go about absorbing part of next years 17M salary? K is a D’Antoni type player!!! Defense and shotblocking is just what we need.
If they wanted Chandler and the 8 pick for Rubio I would have to assume that it would need to be Lee and someone else for Boozer, in addition Lee and Milsap are too similar of a player….. I just don’t know who they would want maybe a back pg for Deron Williams like Duhon but I just don’t see that making sense, I feel that a 3rd team would need to be involved someone like Portland who would get Lee with Utah getting Outlaw Duhon and Fernadez
They don’t have Milsap anymore…and that 8th and Chandler one doesn’t apply to this because they don’t want Boozer anymore.
How about Lee and Mobley’s contract?
Aren’t the Jazz one of those teams paying Luxury taxes?
Greatman: They drafted Eric Maynor to back up Deron. Plus, why does everyone want boozer? He’s not a significant upgrade to Lee. Obviously he does play better defense; yes, but his stats are overly similar and honestly, he’s two years older than Lee. In two years, Lee could easily be on boozer’s level.
KBT: In theory, the Jazz still have Millsap. The blazers signed him to an offer sheet yesterday. That means the Jazz have until next saturday to match the offer sheet. And I don’t think Lee and Mobley’s contract is enough. Besides the fact that it doesn’t work salary wise at all, they would want more than that.
Also, just so everyone realizes, Boozers a free agent next year. If we re-sign him, we won’t be able to sign lebron as cleveland will easily be able to offer more money than us, so again, why does everyone want him so badly?
Doesn’t Jeffries make sense for Philly in a S&T for Miller?
Dalembert
Brand
Young
AI
Lou Williams

Speights
Holiday
Jeffries
Green
looks like a nice rotation.
forgot Kopono
Considering the free agent market next year and the amount of money they already have invested in Brand, I’d say probably not. They probably want to free up as much cap space as possible to bring in another guy into that rotation (prob another big man).
I understand Mike D’Antoni is claiming Duhon is his man and that there is nothing going on with Andre Miller. That being said, if Miller is in play we cannot afford to keep both Miller and Duhon going forward. Miller is better then Duhon but he is older. Duhon cannot play around the basket. Miller can’t shoot from the perimeter. Both are good distributors.

I would have gladly taken jack for 5 mil a year…he’s getting better yearly and is a great shooter…even though he might not be the point of the future, he definitely could have been an excellent role player for us.
We already have Nate for 2.9M. With some more coaching and some growing up by Nate, he could be as good or better than Jack IMO.
