Knicks-Pistons Thread: Summer League Game 2

by Tommy Dee on July 15th, 2009 at 2:53 pm

Game Time: 4:00

What to watch for:

- Toney Douglas and Jordan Hill as they look to provide Knick fans a look to the future.

- Morris Almond’s quest for rotation minutes. I’d bring him aboard, but only if he’s going to play.

- How will Hill’s body, admittedly out of shape, rebound on back to back games?

I’m looking for Jordan Hill to bounce back and have a better game against the Pistons summer league team today. Toney Douglas is going to put up another solid game of getting the team involved and solidify his rotation as the backup point guard for the Knicks.
I’d like to see Morris Almond do a little bit more on the floor than just shoot the basketball. He’s got good size and an NBA body…he should add more to his repertoire.

  • CircleLimit4

I wanna see Korolev and Singleton out there this time.

  • Magik_Trick

Toney Douglas should find his stroke today, get some more buckets, hopefully another 0 turnover game

Hill seemed rusty in the 1st half yesterday, and caught on in the 2nd half, expecting him to perform well today

Is it to much to expect for them both to get double-doubles?

  • barnaby8787

Circle, I hope you’re right b/c I really want to see Korolev. He’s still only 22 and was the #12 pick a few years back. I remember that he drew comparisons to kukoc when drafted.

  • Chris Alvino

I would like to see him as well.. I also want to see if Tskiti shoots well again and can continue to be active out there.

  • NyKnicksBeat

    No lineups today guys?

    Check me out on http://www.NyKnicksBeat.net

    Awesome Blog guys.

  • DaJoka

I also want to see Skita…..hey, a 7 footer that can pop the jimmy (pause) ain’t never hurt nobody.

I like what I’m seeing. We won that game yesterday if you think about it. The only reason we lost is because Howard got a rebound with like 1:07 left in the game…..Douglas was right next to him calling for the ball to start to kill the time and this mo mo Howard goes the length of the court and tries a underhand lay-up?????

I wouldn’t be surprised if Phil W sent his butt to the airport last night and told him not to come back.

What a loser that guy Howard is!!!

  • CircleLimit4

Yeah I was surprised that the Clips gave up on him so early and let him go at 20 yrs old. Supposedly he’s been doing alright in Moscow.

  • barnaby8787

LOL, you call the guy a loser when he actually played a good game…He had 11 points and 8 boards….the summer league is not about winning or losing as opposed to showing coaches what players can do…the fact that they lose won’t bother weber or d’antoni as much as those that don’t play well…

  • Chris Alvino

    Almond can really shoot it.

  • Magik_Trick

    Korolev, in game

  • CircleLimit4

on the same token, the Knicks also need to see if a player can play smart as well as produce. Howard, along with Ahearn and Carter were players that looked great one possession then lost or out of control the next.

  • Myles A. Mills

    what’s up with TDs offense?

  • barnaby8787

It seems to be non-existent; in the same respect, the fact that he’s finding the open looks is great.

  • Funk

is it me, or does vinny del negro look exactly like luke wilson??

  • Mucha

Korolev is… turrible. He got blocked, he travelled and he missed an open lay-up… the complete package.

  • greatman42001

Korolev is just lost as a player he turns the ball over and doesen’t take it up strong to the hoop, he looks like a boy amongst men.

There is no reason Hill shouldn’t be dominating this competition, I think if he doesen’t proove he can contribute this yr by dominating this league the Knicks will be more inclined to sign Lee.

  • Mucha

Hill needs to be more aggressive but his jumpshot is pretty good…

  • CircleLimit4

Korolev is definitely out of rhythm. I love Ahearn’s penetration/dishing. Doesn’t leave his feet an is making strong passes to the outside.

  • Magik_Trick

Boy, Douglas cant hit a shot at all
Prior to game 1, I thought thats the onl;y thing he’d be able to do offensively, and i get vice-versa..
Im sure it’ll come to him eventually though

  • CircleLimit4

The way Douglas changes speed and his hesitation dribble are NBA ready. It looks like the only thing he’s missing is his shot.

  • Magik_Trick

But its not like hes a bad shooter, we know he can stroke it from his FSU days, and that ability doesnt dissapear

Hes has alot of NBA ready qualitys, hope his confidence hasnt failed him after a few missed shots..

  • CircleLimit4

Ditto. I’m getting the complete opposite of what I thought Douglas can do. I thought he’d hit every shot but not facilitate at all.

  • CircleLimit4

Exactly, although I’m not sure if it’s a confidence thing because he is taking the shot and they aren’t necessarily bad looks. I think he’s just rushing his form. I wish Thorpe was tweeting now, I’m interested in what he has to say about Douglas’ mechanics.

  • Bronxboy08

TD can run that point….. he just needs to work on his shot overall….. that will come. But, he can run that point and he would’ve had a lot more assists had his teammates hit shots.

  • greatman42001

Tzkiti has got to learn how to pull down boards better, if he doesen’t he won’t make the team.
In terms of Hill I think the talent is there I think he just is going to need to become a little more comfortable against this competition. I don’t see him as a star but can def put up Lee like numbers for the team.

  • KBT1615

Any Body Else See That Alley? Lovin It.

  • greatman42001

Tony D is a player… simple as that… he makes smart decisions and does so many little things that makes the team and players around him better. He can be a starter in this league or a really good 6th man, kind of reminds me of Leandro Barbosa.

What we need is a defensive philosophy like the Celtics, Magic, Cavs, and Spurs. Especially in the East instead of playing LeBron 1-on-1 have a system to keep him away from the hoop. Also learn how to protect the basket, that would be where a Tyson Chandler type would come in handy but also learn how no to go matador when someone drive to the hoop give then a good foul to earn it. Our best defensive game last year to me was when we had Jared Jeffries disrupting the Celtics and we got the win

  • Myles A. Mills

lol why do you guys call him Tskiti? His nickname is normally Skita….

  • greatman42001

Haha because it has a better flow to it.

  • greatman42001

    Skita was so yesterday

  • bockersORbriefs

I KNOW we’re only 2 games into the summer league, BUT when I compare Nate & Lee at this same point of time in ’06 to TD & Hill …. I think Donnie Basketball should make deals with BOTH of their agents TONIGHT !!! And enough of this GARBAGE of how Nate & D-Lee are not “winning” players. I don’t see where Kidd or Grant Hill have championship rings and they’re closer to 40 than our RFAs are to 30 ! Remember Ariza was “delusional” & not considered a “winner” when he was a Knick …. now you can call him a world champ with a shiny new free agent contract. Wouldn’t be suprised if D-Lee & Nate end up with rings if the Knicks let them go before “7 seconds or less” gets a parade in the Canyon.

My question is why we never gave Shaun Livingston an afterthought? The kid is a 6’7 POINT GUARD a glaring need, he is only 23 YEARS OLD! Granted he had a horrific injury but the strides he has made to comeback, he be part of a nice young nucleus especially if we get LBJ or any of the 2010 FA studs.

Imagine if Almond works out we could have our starting PG and SG at 6’7 with Chandler, Gallo, Harrington, Hill, Darko, Korlev of Skita we’d be a long squad which should help us on defense.
