Chat Monday

by Myles A. Mills on July 26th, 2009 at 2:37 am

A lot of debating going on amongst you guys involving this team, so Tommy will host a chat tomorrow.  Plenty of stuff to discuss like David Lee sign and trade possibilities, the rookies, and even Tommy’s wedding.  Also, involving the Andre Miller signing in Portland, TKB had that in February.  For the price they got him at, and considering it’s a three year deal (with a team option the third year) and Andre probably has about three years left in the tank, I like the move.  Miller was asking for $10 million a year so 3 years for $21 million seems like a good catch.  Steve Blake will be an awesome back up point guard.  In other news, Drew Gooden signed with Dallas, giving them some more depth in the front court depth after they missed out on Marcin Gortat and lost Brandon Bass.  I never understood why people hated on Gooden;  The guy is a very capable scorer and rebounder, and only 27.  A starting lineup of Jason Kidd, Josh Howard, Shawn Marion, Dirk Nowitzki, and Erick Dampier with JJ Barea, Gooden, and Jason Terry off the bench can definitely compete in the West.

About Myles A. Mills

Myles is a sophomore at The Browning School, an all-boys private school on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. He's been a Knick fan as long as he can remember, and 02-03 was the last season he could remember in entirety. He hopes to one day see the Knicks in the playoffs. Myles is also fond of the Mets, and follows them vehemently, but his the bulk of his time goes to the Knicks. Myles wants to be a radio hosts on WFAN or ESPN 1050 radio, and he hopes to write for theknicksblog.com for years to come. View all posts by Myles A. Mills →

    Marion’s contract is too funny…
Im not one for I told ya so’s… But I always felt like that guy was a product of the system and I thought him getting a max deal was insane.

    Easy bob
I’m frustrated too but I would wager that Donnie will add a player or two to this roster this summer

  • Kid Tarheel

C’mon Myles u are better than that. gooden is a talented player with abslolutely zero court smarts… he is not a smart baskteball player.. the bulls the cavs and the spurs said no thanks. playoff teams! he is a decent guy, but a basketball knucklehead.

  • joetheknick

Myles: need some updates on Eddy Curry. Is he in shape? Are other teams lining up to trade for him? His progress is the Knicks progress. Please Eddy, get it together.

  • Myles A. Mills

nobody on the knicks has any court smarts. the guy can ball, I’m not saying he’s a superstar but since when does 12 and 8 have no value?

  • Myles A. Mills

I’m not entirely sure with Eddy Curry. People say he has incentive to get in shape and play well because of his tough year and financial problems, but regardless of how he plays, he’s making $11 million next year. I hope he does get it together but I’m definitely not expecting it. Last time I saw him was during footage of the summer league workouts, and he still looked big but he was moving well. Still wearing that t-shirt under his jersey.

  • joetheknick

I am afraid Donnie Walsh is not entirely sure either and that is why he is not spending money on RFA’s Curry is the key to cap space in 2010. Who would have thought he would be such a problem. All we can do is hope he gets it together.

  • JC in DC

Gooden to the Mavs … hooray. The rich get richer and the Knicks continue to be … irrelevant.

  • JC in DC

Myles help me here … if DW wants to get rid of all these contracts that are going to threaten 2010, why didn’t he get rid of Jeffries last year when he reportedly had the opportunity? Couldn’t he have sent Jeffries and Robinson to the Kings at the trade deadline? Didn’t he not make that trade because the Knicks thought they could have made the playoffs last year when it really didn’t matter? This is the year that they have to make the playoffs because they don’t have a lottery pick right? But now he can’t sign anyone because he’s hamstrung by Jeffries and Curry. Am I making sense?

  • Myles A. Mills

you’re making sense but making the playoffs last year did matter. It’s more than 2010, it’s getting experience for Wilson Chandler and the young guys, and plus it changes the culture of the organization. Even if the Knicks made it this year and didn’t make it next, it shows they’re moving in the right direction. Right? And Nate was playing some great basketball after the all-star break, and that deal was for like Kenny Thomas I believe. I think Walsh thinks he can get more for Jeffries, and so do I. Jeffries is a 6’11 decent defender who can really guard 1-5. The fact that he’s such a scrub amazes me. Worst case scenario Walsh can just dump him at the deadline. Some elite team will take him. I was actually bummed by the fact that we missed out on Brad Miller and John Salmons. If we got those guys, I think we could have been the Bulls of 09.

  • KBT1615

I knew Salmons could play d but I didn’t know he could shoot like that…I was surprised.

  • Its The Kid

Misconception… Marion avg 17pts 10rebs his 2nd year in the NBA. 2000-2001.. Then at least 19pt 9rebs for the next three years, all before Nash or Mike Dan joined the team… His numbers were damn good before the system or Nash came along…

  • Its The Kid

I agree in my opinion he is just as good as Lee… And some may disagree but he is a better shooter, and better defender… But Lee beats him out as a rebounder… Who you like more becomes relative… He is just a weirdo, thats his biggest problem, I think…
