Lee To Blazers Dead?
By Ben Kopelman - Jul 29, 2009 12:03 pm

In an article published in the Oregonian (and relayed on RealGM), Blazers head coach Nate McMillian pretty much put any Lee-to-Portland rumors to bed saying he had been told ”there will be no [more] trades before training camp starts in October.”

Another one bites the dust, Mr Bartelstein…

A key part to a sign-and-trade is that “trade” word, so if McMillian is being honest, and if what he was told was accurate, it seems as though we can finally cross the Blazers off the potential list of Lee suitors.

If Portland would only offer Outlaw and Blake for him, then this pursuit never really began for Portland.

Would have to start with either Fernadez or Bayless. You think the later maight be gettable now that Miller has arrived. Rudy just seems to popular with their fans to give up.

Chandler… But why would you have to choose if after the trade we would have both… Rudy is a natural 2 which we could use badly… Chandler can play 3 position thats always a good thing…

At the time I wanted Rudy more, but we could’ve had them both then… The Suns trade him to the Blazers for cash….

I think Portland was interested in signing Lee but for only 7-8 million, which is what the Knicks want to pay him. But being that they knew the Knicks would match that offer they didn’t bother. And there is no way they would give them the 10-12 million Lee is looking for because he would only be a backup and that is way too much for a backup.
I’m starting to wonder if Chicago even has real interest in Lee. This could be another one of his agent’s rumors. In the end I see David Lee in NY at least for 1 more year.

Chriws mannix tweeted the following on July 23rd.

David Lee tells me he isn’t asking for anything out of the ordinary and thinks the Knicks are trying to spend as little as possible.

I love david lee, but come on.. he is really starting to get annoying.
No other team has made any offers for you.
you are not worth 10-12 mill !

I have to agree the David Lee situation is getting quite annoying. He needs to realize no one is going to pay him $10-12 million. He is not Ron Artest or Lamar Odom to be commanding that kind of money. He needs to tell his agent, he is willing to do a $7-8 mill deal already. Otherwise he’s going to have to wait till 2010 when teams have that kind of money and can overpay players.

the funny part is.
ron artest is getting paid substantially less.
and even odom wont crack 10 mill a year.

if hes alittle bit worse than david lee isnt that a pretty good deal for his super cheap rookie contract ?
we get a taller slightly worse david lee for super cheap for 4 years.

Rudy Fernandez put up 10 points in 25 minutes of play per game.

He has talent but hasnt produced. He would be a decent young player to get for Lee based on his upside.

I would not call Rudy/Outlaw too much to expect in return and Im not the biggest Lee fan out there.

Comment by Its The Kid
2009-07-29 16:01:00

I agree Rudy and Outlaw would be alot for Lee… But just getting Rudy isnt exactly even either although I would take that in a heartbeat… I like Rudy’s upside that much… Lets face it double double guys are coveted in the NBA… Lee’s value needs to net you something of substance… Blake and Outlaw dont exactly translate to substance, to me…

what did you mean when you said “in other teams minds”?

Comment by knicksbro
2009-07-29 16:31:11

What I mean is that since we are following D Lee and since we are fans, we obviously will see and observe all his flaws because we see him play so much. David Lee is a very good player, but as fans, of course we will look at the downsides rather than the upsides. BUT D Lee is a great player and especially for other teams who don’t observe him as much.

The Clips are actively looking for a combo guard

Nate S&T for R Davis or Mardy Collins & DeAndre Jordan ?

Comment by Chris Alvino
2009-07-29 16:11:37

Nate would be a better fit out there than AI. Not sure if the Clips have interest, but Nate would bring some excitement ot that team and would be a better option than Sessions.

Not sure they would trade Jordan for him though. If they ever offered him, I would jump all over it. Jordan has a lot of upside at the center spot. I think Jordan and Griffin will be a formidable front line in the future.

By the way, in terms of a Tinsley contract, Walsh should try to get a cheap team option for 2010. If he plays well enough to start, then we would have him on the cheap after Duhon expired. If he plays poorly or creates problems, then we simply let him go.

Maybe a $2 million deal for year 1 and then a lower rate at year 2? If Tinsley behaves and runs a strong point, then having him for under 2 mill would be a great asset.

A team option is a great tool.

Again, only if Sessions is out of the picture.

Im surprised Larry Brown didnt go for Jeffries, since he said he’d like to use Tyson Chandler at the PF positions, we could have gave him Jared for Felton, we lose his contract and gain a point guard thats what DW has been searching for all summer. Far as Eddy I think the only way we lose him is he has to be showcased to show he still has something in the tank at his young age, his former teammate Chandler is on his 3rd team now
