Another Possible Project

by Chris Alvino on July 31st, 2009 at 9:01 pm

With the deadline for contracts to become guaranteed tomorrow, one name that was cut that I found intriguing was Mike Taylor of the LA Clippers.  The 23 year old guard made history last year for being the first player drafted out of the D League.

The Clippers have been rumored to be interested in Ramon Sessions.  There also has been a rumor that the Clippers are looking at every possible combo guard available.  I am curious to see if there is a follow-up move to come with this release.

I read Clippersblog.com to find out more, and it appears that a poor showing in the summer league (really?) did in the young PG.  Plenty of fans were sad to see him go because of his hustle and his energy.

For those of you that do not remember this guy, he did this against the Knicks last year.

The Lakers also waived Sun Yue today.  I have never seen Sun play, but he is supposed to be pretty much a 6’9 point forward.

I am surprised that the Clippers cut Taylor, but something might be brewing out there in LA.  To cut a player that performed last year as a rookie simply because of a poor summer league outing makes no sense.  I hope they do not intensify their efforts for Sessions.  Like the Knicks, the Clippers can use a shooting guard to play behind Eric Gordon.  There were rumors swirling around that the Clippers were most heavily intersted in Allen Iverson and Ramon Sessions, two names linked to the Knicks (especially Sessions).  However, can Nate Robinson be a fit out there in LA?  Nate is a star in this league (in part for the novelty of his game), and he would shine under the bright lights of Hollywood.  Unlike Iverson, Nate Robinson is younger and is used to a bench role.

Anyway, I wonder if Walsh will show any interest in Mike Taylor or Sun Yue.

He can’t shoot. He lit us up but we were the second worst defensive team in the league. Jarret Jack lit us up. Rodney Carney lit us up. Anderson Varejao lit us up. This guy is a scrub. I understand the intrigue, but Taylor is like an extremely poor mans Brandon Jennings without the potential and 3 years older.

Also, I agree that Nate could be a good fit for the Clippers but I don’t expect anything to pop off.

and also, it wasn’t just a bad summer league, it was awful. 6 points, 5 assists, 24% shooting, 18% from 3.

I really hope sessions comes to the knicks. If the clippers are positioning themselves to try and make a run at sessions (I don’t know how this affects that maybe in a sign and trade the clippers are taking back an extra contract). I think sessions would help this team a lot. here’s to hoping it happens

  • Chris Alvino

I would not consider his in the same thought as Tinsley or Sessions or Iverson or (gulp) Jason Williams.

Is he worth taking a flier on as a project? Make him the 15th man?

  • blasac5150

Enough with the rumors of signing all these BUMS! Sign Sessions, and let’s add another building Block. Not another Anthony Roberson!

  • pedro

Ramon Sessions. really? meeh.. it only proves this is a very slow offseason. I rather go find the next sessions on the d-league, than actually pay for him just because he had one good season. bring in mike taylor or another stopgap.

  • BiggieSmalls

    Why do we need “projects”?

Seems D’Antoni doesnt do anything with them and they wallow on the bench.

    We need PLAYERS not projects

  • HaS

Knicks claim Jason Williams off waivers? WTF?!

  • bigdan

i wouldnt mind jason williams too much. sessions should be the priority though. he could potentially turn into a long term solution.

  • bockersORbriefs

Since Donnie Basketball has dragged us into August contacting everybody who’s ever played PG (look for Mugsy Bogues, Mo Layton, and Ernie DiGregorio to visit MSG next week !) … why has there been no interest in CJ Watson, FA from Golden State ?

  • Bruno

    Sessions & Taylor to NY
    Nate to LAC
    Duhon to MILW

  • Bruno

    I meant Telfair.

  • Chris Alvino

Why another project? I think that Taylor is more talented than Anthony Roberson. Roberson was not a project. He simply was not any good.

The more and more I think about it, there are a lot of guys still out there that are still looking for jobs. Someone surprising might just fall into the Knicks lap. If we do not offer Sessions the full MLE, thus preserving a portion of it, perhaps there will be a surprise name late in August that can be had on the cheap.

  • HaS

No you guys don’t get it. ESPN is claiming that they CLAIMED Jason WIlliams off waivers!

  • bigdan

you clearly dont get it either. that means they have exclusive rights to negotiate with him until august 5th. at that point he will become an unrestricted free agent. READ.

    Here’s my logic:

    Sun Yue is a sleeper.

Iverson for a year? Hmm… It’s hard to say unless I had a face to face, heart to heart with him though….

I suppose that Donnie B-Ball knows best. I don’t want to be a hypocrite since I disapprove of Tinsley, an overweight criminal (or so we have been led to believe).

At least Iverson is an upgrade. AND I really enjoyed his unreleased rap, 40 Bars. “Jewels Time”…

Anyway, we’re both about the same age and although I’m way, way, way poorer (financially), I know I am and hope A.I. is also richer mentally and spiritually. After all, money will always be around, but our actions on this planet will be remembered most of all.

To A.I. and all the ballers out there:

Seize the blessing that you have received to make millions playing a game that all men and women would only dream of. Your family is set for generations to come.

Therefore, whoever will join our beloved franchise, I say unto you but one thing…make us proud and…

    GO KNICKS!!!

  • CircleLimit4

“why has there been no interest in CJ Watson, FA from Golden State ?”

    YES! Thank you!

Look, I can understand not going for CJ Watson. What I can’t understand is considering Tinsley, Jason Williams and Mike Taylor before CJ Watson.

If Nate is gone and Sessions cannot be had, CJ Watson is the perfect replacement than can be had for 1/3 the price. A solid backup who has starter potential.

  • mrsiklawi

this isn’t oprah whats up with the pep talk? plus i highly doubt that “A.I. and all the ballers out there” that are making millions will be ready ur post.

  • jingo

Things have become desperate for us hard core Knick fans. Discussing the relative merits of guys like Boozer and Rubio is alot more fun than discussing whether the Knicks should dip into their 2010 budget for Ramon Sessions as opposed to signing Iverson or Jason Williams or some borderline NBA talent who I’ve barely heard of (and would never have heard of except that these guys lit up the Knicks last year).

I really would not have expected the Knicks to totally tank 2009 in order to have a budget for 2010.

Its interesting to me that the NBA has developed a lottery system to discourage bad teams from tanking games in order to improve draft position. Is the NBA gonna legislate against teams tanking a full season in order to save money for the next year’s FA class? This seems more aggregious to me than an already bad team tanking some games to have a shot at a superstar. The Knicks will be tanking the whole season and they still will not be assured of getting a top FA.

    Woof.

  • dino of syracuse

Hahaha point taken Mrs. Iklawi! Hopefully though, they do “ready my post”. Go Knicks!

  • mrsiklawi

how is tanking a season going to help a team save money? the team is still going to have the same players weather they win or lose? explain yourself damnit! i demand it.

  • HaS

Read these nuts. I’m repeating it because they obviously have a strong interest in this dude, it’s an actual move by Walshie. That was my point.

  • HaS

It’s “whether” and I I think what he’s saying is that in looking for expiring contracts instead of actually searching for good players, the Knicks will have another losing season. They’re depending on very young and rookie players and may not even sign their own free agent players. All in the hope of signing 1 or 2 stars in 2010, which has the chance of not even happening.

  • ScottD

As Donnie said from day one ” we will look to improve the team, while clearing the cap for the summer of 2010″
And I think that he is shrewd, and doing an excellent job.
There is a reason why he, not us runs the Knicks.

What part of that do some of you not comprehend?
