Sources: Bucks Sign Hakim Warrick

by Myles A. Mills on July 31st, 2009 at 12:37 pm

Update 1:54pm: Tommy Dee says: Warrick to the Bucks is a done deal. No offer for Sessions yet and may not come today according to a source with knowledge of the situation. It’s coming though, and, of course, the Warrick signing is huge.

Via Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel:

“Hakim Warrick, an athletic 6-foot-9 forward who played the past four seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies, has reached agreement with the Bucks on a one-year deal, sources indicated Friday.

Warrick averaged 11.6 points and 5.0 rebounds while appearing in all 82 games for the Grizzlies last season, primarily in a bench role.

The Grizzlies withdrew their qualifying offer to Warrick last week, making him an unrestricted free agent. A number of teams showed interest in Warrick, including the Cleveland Cavaliers, Philadelphia 76ers and Charlotte Bobcats.”

As Marc Stein noted the other day, Hakim Warrick had huge implications on the Ramon Sessions situation.  It appeared that the Bucks were more concerned with using their money to sign Hakim Warrick as opposed to retaining Ramon Sessions.  Now that they have actually done that, it appears even more unlikely that they would match an offer sheet from the Knicks.  This also probably eliminates any sign and trade possibilities involving David Lee and Sessions, because the Bucks filled their void at power forward with Warrick.  I expect the Knicks to simply make a flat out offer to Sessions, and I don’t see the Bucks matching it.  Also, Gery Woelfel’s latest tweet: “Knicks waiting 4 Bowen trade – Bucks at $68.8M (Lux tax $69.9) – then make run at Ramon Sessions.”  Wait, where did we hear that?

Ramon Sessions : True gem or fool’s gold?

  • BiggieSmalls

Man im glad Im not a Bucks or Grizz fan.

  • blasac5150

Lets hope the knicks can reel this kid in. We need to SOME young talent here to build. I love the way everybody assumes Lebron is coming to the knicks. Watch him stay in Cleveland, and D-Wade stay in Miami. Knicks need to build build build.

    semi-precious

  • DKA

No celebrating until we see if we really do secure him and at what terms. If we do get him, it will be very interesting to see what happens with Lee and Nate. Biggie, I guess you and I won’t have our wish of Kurt Thomas on our roster this year, since a S&T seems unlikely.

  • DKA

You obviously are not fully sold; neither am I, but I don’t know what our other options are for PG after this year. I am certainly not aware of a better one than Sessions that is viable and possibly at a reasonable price. While it’s possible that Rubio or Flynn get moved eventually, who knows when and at what cost. Their salaries may not even be all that different from what Sessions will go for now, and they are higher risk players at this stage (possibly with more upside, however).

  • BiggieSmalls

the Bucks are so squeezed up against the cap that they might just mail in this season.. at a 68 million dollar payroll that is mind boggling.

What poor management. Just giving away Sessions, Charlie V and RJ for nothing.

  • MUGSY

    yea thats just awful

  • BiggieSmalls

I would ship Lee off to OKC for their two 2010 first rounders in a SECOND>

  • BiggieSmalls

    they own PHOENIX’s 2010 1st rounder UNPROTECTED>> PURE GOLD

  • MUGSY

lee and jeffries for etan thomas and 1st rounder

  • edhan

How would the money work out there…Idk OKC’s cap situation.

  • DKA

Do you have reason to believe OKC is interested in Lee? Seems like they could use a center more than a PF.

  • Knicks4lyfe8

cant wait for the offer sheet to be offered to my boy sessions haha.

    BTW. this is off topic
DOES ANYONE THINK DOUGLAS IS GUNNA HAVE ONE BIG GAME THIS SEASON. LIKE 45 – 50 points in a game. my gut feeling is saying hes gunna.

  • MUGSY

they have the cap room and thomas makes 7 mil that comes off for jeffries 6 and with whats left they can add lee

  • BiggieSmalls

they’re sitting on 9 mil of free cap space

Lee and Jeffries for Thomas and ONE First Rounders or Lee for the Two Firsts.. DONE@!!!

  • hunter11

um, OKC is not giving up its 1st round rookie picks…not for a defensive sieve like David Lee when they need a defensive rock in the front court.

  • BiggieSmalls

They were in play for Millsap early on but chose to preserve the cap space rather than make an offer..

I think they may have as much as 10 mil free space in 2009/10

  • Mucha

    You’re a diplomat aren’t you.

  • Mucha

I agree with that – which is why Sessions may be the best option available in my opinion. But like you said I’m not fully sold.

I don’t know who’s more valuable : Nate Robinson or Ramon Sessions.

  • Mucha

His big game will be : 18 points, 8 assists.

  • DKA

Ahhh. A realist before an optimist. A kindred spirit.

  • Mucha

    Haha

  • gbaked

i dont think they are comparable… other then the fact that they are both guards.

    sessions is our pointguard.

nate is our first guy off the bench/8th man/energy guy

getting sessions should not effect our getting nate. it just makes duhon a backup pg.

  • HaS

    Sometimes I wish I weren’t a Knicks fan. :-(

  • HaS

Yeah it would be very smart to stockpile some picks just in case the Knicks can’t land a superstar in 2010 or 11.

  • HaS

That said I don’t think they’re in play for Lee it wouldn’t be a smart basketball move IMO, and that dude Presti is turning out to be a shrewd one.

I think that James Harden pick is going to turn out to be pure genius considering all the temptations that were on the board at that point.

  • HaS

Strangely enough I think they have an outside chance of making it into the playoffs. They just missed making it last season, with a disgruntled Stoudemire and Nash. With both of them back (and healthy) Jason RIchardson, Barbosa Grant Hill and that run/gun style offense (Channing Frye may flourish in that system as a shooting big man), they may win enough games to make contend for the 8th or 7th.

Houston is more than likely out and New Orleans I have a feeling might even slip. Peja seems done.
