Team Hasn’t Talked Rubio Since Day After Draft

Via Isola:

“…Despite Lee’s disappointment in failing to sign a long-term contract, he has been working out at the team’s training facility on and off for the past two months. It’s a sign that Lee knows he will be back. Robinson is also working out regularly at the facility.

Lee’s name has been mentioned in several sign-and-trade scenarios, but Walsh seems reluctant to move the young forward. Walsh denied a report that the Knicks would consider trading Lee to Minnesota for unsigned rookie Ricky Rubio.

“We haven’t spoken to them about Rubio since the day after the draft,” Walsh said.

Rubio, who has expressed interest in playing for the Knicks, informed the T-Wolves that he intends to play for FC Barcelona for at least the next two seasons…”

Also, Walsh had this to say about the Lee and Nate situations:

“…“Things are moving along,” Walsh said Tuesday. “Nothing is imminent, but the talks have been good…”

Of course Walsh is gonna say that about Rubio. Why would he tip his hand to Frankie Ice? Especially now that Rubio is staying in Spain.

It’s clear he was stalling the summer until the Rubio situation was resolved.

Now we should see some action. Plenty of time on the clock til training camp.

Get it done Donnie. Shake em up.

    Donnie’s to do list
    >Duhon to the Magic for an exception
    >Sign Sessions to an under MLE contract
    >Dump JJ on the Wiz for Mike James
    >Work some S&T mojo with Lee/Nate or sign for one cheap year above the QO
    >break up the log jam in the front court.

Walsh stopped talking to them because Kahn was too delusional to consider a trade. Now after Rubio rejected MN, the ball is in Kahn’s court and he has to be the one to start talking if he wants to get something for Rubio.

  • Chris Alvino

I hope Walsh does not trade for Rubio now, if that was what you were implying.

As far as Duhon is concerned, I would not just give him away for a trade exception, even if we signed Sessions. Duhon will likely have value in a trade.

  • parkerstrong

    Any update on Sessions yet?

  • BiggieSmalls

If Im Walsh I give up a protected 2013 #1 for Rubio right now. That is it.

The Rubio convo is over. He has no value to anyone now that he is in Spain for 2 years. Let Kahn choke on him.

I would dump Duhon for a trade exception as a way to clear salary and open more time in the back court. Not sure he has much value as an expiring contract who was injury prone most of the second half.

I’d do that trade to shake things up. He really isnt a 7SOL PG. Not that Mike James is but in a swap for JJ and playing 12 minutes a game and expiring in 2010 I can stomach him as a home town reclaim (Amityville LI born)

  • joetheknick

Generally agree with your advice to DW except for Duhon to Orlando. Why that trade?

  • joetheknick

I think you are underestimating Duhon’s value. Playing less minutes he will be invaluable as a distributor and a guy who has developed some chemistry with Lee, Chandler and Gallo. Duhon is steady and generally plays under control. In my opinion, he will help the young players develop. During this season, I see Curry getting traded as well as Nate and Lee. Hughes will probably be gone too. Duhon may turn into a long term back up which isn’t so bad.

  • BiggieSmalls

If Orlando threw in a 2010 first rounder maybe that would be more palatable.

The idea is to shed salary

  • DinnerDog

I mentioned this mock trade a couple days ago, but how about this trade which would work (salary wise):

    Amare Stoudemire and Pavlovic

for Mobley, Lee (At 9 per), and Jordan Hill

We get a star caliber player to attract free agents. They get a slightly worse, but quality player. A top 10 pick who played ball at Arizona. And what, 7 million dollars worth of insurance money? That owner is losing money.

    Which team doesn’t do that?

  • DinnerDog

    Here’s another one:

David Lee (at 9 million) and Jared Jeffries

    for

    Mike James and Mike Miller

    Who doesn’t do that deal?

  • BiggieSmalls

ill sign on for that if Washington includes a first rounder for next year.

  • DinnerDog

    Or Javale McGee

Everyone should just stop getting their hopes up for this upcoming season. Walshie is sticking to his 2010 plan, hope he gets Lebron in here (I doubt it, but who am I to shatter a dream). If they can’t trade Curry I’m sure they will buy him out, they won’t let his contract stand in the way of signing 2 max if that becomes at all possible. Jeffries I think they will be able to trade, but who knows they may want to keep the utility man around, if not they’d buy him out too.

  • HaS

LOL that actually sounded like I was a Walsh supporter! Wow. Anyone who has read my posts before knows better.

I am just going to throw this out there because no one has realy mentioned it to my knowledge.

What if, LeBron and Wade et al sign 1 year deals for 2010. Then what? This actually would be a better situation for the Knicks.

Let me explain: In 2011 We have max flexibility even with changes to the Cap. Curry and Jeffries comes off the books, all the expiring for this year will be off the books. And we will fill out the roster with a few low cost replacements for the Duhons, Harringtons etc (should they not be resigned).

No only will we have the ability to offer 2 max deals, but out roster would be made up of Gallo, Chandler, Douglas, Hill. At that point we will have a pick of the litter as the 2011 free agents are to me just as exciting as 2010.

I just seem to think that this is a more realistic goal for us fans. Let us use 09-10 to develop our young core (I do not see Nate staying past this year, and expect him to be traded, same with Lee). See how all the expiring contracts work this year (I am talking mostly of Darko, Harrington, and Duhon. Should they prove there worth (I would argue that Harrington and Duhon have) and accept reasonable contracts, I see them actually staying (both coming off the bench).

Basically We will have established our youth and formed a more cohesive unit which will have played together for a few years. This would be more attractive to a superstar than what we have right now.

Now the question is: Can us Knick Fans wait until 2011? I say do we really have a choice?
