In a piece on his blog for Newsday, Alan Hahn submits the idea that the Knicks turn their focus to Wally Szczerbiak to fill the team’s extra roster spot.
“If there’s an unsigned veteran free agent that may fit exactly what the Knicks could use — a pro’s pro, a terrific shooter and a competitor — it’s Wally Szczerbiak.
“No doubt Wally World isn’t the same player he was in his prime. But at the bi-annual ($1.99M), he’s still a bargain for someone you can bring in off the bench as a shooter and a cerebral player who would fit well in Mike D’Antoni’s spread offense.
“He can play some at the 2 (sitting in the corner waiting on those kick-out threes) and also obviously can handle the 3-spot. His game would fit well with Danilo Gallinari and his no-nonsense, competitive approach to the game is the right kind of influence in a room of young players.”
First off, Hahn is not linking this idea to a source, so it is nothing more than a beat writer thinking out loud…
On another note, I think I just threw up in my mouth. How is this the (manufactured) buzz surrounding the Knicks at this point in the summer?
Look, Wally might be a solid fit on this team, and I am not trying to knock his style of play or his ability to contribute. It’s just (as my friend Peter often reminds me) none of these moves — aside from the flirtation with Sessions — carries any new hope or excitement to the season. Even an Isiah-run Crawford-ZBo-led opening night had more pizzazz than this year’s looming tip-off.
I am not arguing with the logic applied to this summer’s dealings — I am 100% behind Walsh for sticking to his plan. But as a fan who watches 82 games a year, the notion that Wally Szczerbiak might be our new, re-energizing piece is down right depressing.
And slightly nauseating as well…

“If there’s an unsigned veteran free agent that may fit exactly what the Knicks could use — a pro’s pro, a terrific shooter and a competitor — it’s Wally Szczerbiak.
I completely disagree. The Zbo-Crawford led team was never, EVER, going to win a championship. So who cares if they would have been competitive and squeaked into the playoffs. Not interested in 1st round exits. We are on the right track to building a solid foundation through the draft and I am extremely excited to watch this team. It is very easy to get behind young players with potential. Not selfish stat hogs. I am more excited to watch Gallo this season, even if he struggles, than the last 5 seasons combined.
thats fine. i dont disagree. and, as he was injured, i guess dino is somewhat of a new addition…its fair.
but it sure woulda been fun to have somebody other than DARKO to have as ammunition to all the haters…
im just frustrated. not pointing fingers and naming names, but its been a long summer and throwing wally’s name on the veteran heap is just deflating…
BEN,we need someone to run the point, pleeeeeeeeeze come up with a name,SESSIONS WOULDA BEEN A PERFECT FIT
Wally Szczerbiak??? Ugh…. I’d rather the Knicks not spend their bi-annual or spend it on an NBDL player than bring in Szczerbiak.
Hahn has been pushing Wally World to come to MSG for ever
I think they come from the same Long Island area.
I dont see Wally being of any value unless he has a 13 million dollar expiring contract.
Agreed Ben — I cant stomach to hear people touting Wally as some rejuvenation project like Darko if he signs for the minimum.
Wally cant come close to keeping up at the 2 guard — not even when he could play — and we are overloaded at the forward.
God forbid If three forwards get injured grab him out of the Massapequa Mall in December.
To be fair, Wally is a great shooter. Let’s not forget how many three pointers this team takes per game.
I actually wrote that Walsh should consider Wally about a month ago. Ben is right though, Wally is not a guy that will push this team over the top. Perhaps if Walsh inked Ramon Sessions to a deal, Wally would have been a nice addition to the roster. Wally used to be an integral part to a team, but now he is simply more of a role player.
Adding Wally will not hurt, but he will not miraculously push this team into the playoffs.
If Walsh plans on bringing in no one else, then he should bring in Wally. Good shooter. Hometown guy. A true pro that can show the young guys how to conduct themselves. A winner.
I have to Agree with you Chris wally is a professional and could be a good role model for the young guys.
But again, as Ben said, if this guy is brought in here and made out to be a savior type, then do not buy that hype. This looks like a 35 win team.
A 35 WIN TEAM? where are we gonna get as many as 35 wins from? i really dont think this team is as good as last years
how? This team lost nobody from last years team, added shot blocking, has time to develop chemistry, and will have everybody playing hard in their contract year. Plus add anything Eddy Curry, Jordan Hill, and Toney Douglas contribute.
There’s no way in hell the Knicks are worse than last year. Maybe the same, definitely not worse.
we still have a lousy pg,and you cant assume everyone will play hard etc……..that is not a given.plus the other teams in the east are alot better, the knicks did nothing to get better, therefore they are worse!
and dont you DARE,bring up that stiff darko,KNICKS fans are so thirsty in this desert, they’ll drink the sand which IS darko
Hey Myles,
I don’t think anyone is trying to say they are worse than last year, and maybe a few would/could argue that they may be slightly better (due to experience, another year together etc.), but almost everyone got around them got much better. That’s the problem. I think they will be around the 35 win mark and even THAT might be generous.
Thats a Crazy comment, just having the guys go through training camp together with D”antoni makes this team better, plus with Darko and minus Q-rich who was terrible on this team, a Healthy Gallo, An improved Chandler and Hill, Douglas we will be better than last year. Forget Sessions already!
I’m not disputing the team getting better, what I am saying is the teams around them in the East have gotten better also. Which more than likely cancel out any improvement of the Knicks as a team.
Not really. The ‘other’ teams that got better are the contenders (ORL, CAVS, BOS) which beat us last year anyway. But the other teams like NETS, MIL, DET, that may have beaten us last year, are now weaker or stayed the same.
So I say, yes this will be a better year for our team.
Assuming we end up with a better record than all those teams, which isn’t a given, that still leaves us at 12th in the East.
What? Savior? Guys, we aren’t looking to bring in a big “energizing piece” to turn the team around. Clearly, we are just looking to add small pieces that help to plug small holes. If you think bringing in an experienced veteran like Wally for 1 year to help provide some consistency at the 2 spot is “depressing” because he isn’t the big-deal, team changing player you were hoping for, than you are just missing the entire point.
Of course, if you care more about ‘excitement’ than actually carefully building a team over time (even if carefulness doesn’t help to maximize excitement), than i guess this move would make me throw up in my mouth also.
This move is exactly what we need. It makes us better this year without sacrificing anything; that is all we can do right now.
I like this more than an iverson signing because we know wally can come in and play a roll really well, where as there are so many questions with iverson about whether he not he could actually fit into to a young, rebuilding squad.
Wally Szczerbiak is not and nor, at this point in his career, ever will be a 2 guard. He cannot play the position or guard the position. He’s a small forward and not a very good one either, not to mention he’s on the wrong side of 30.
T-H-A-N-K Y-O-U!!! i think bob missed the point of Hahn’s post.
Hahn never said anything about a saviour or someone that will turn this franchise around. Wally is just what Hahn said he is.. a niece 1-year addition to the team. He may or may not contribute to the team on the floor. But he will definitely give a veteran presence on the bench.. ‘a pro’s pro’ never complains about his role in the team, never lets injuries and set back affect his attitude to the game. He just comes in and does what the coach asks him to do.
Kind of like what they wanted to do with Allan Houston [20] last season.
I would say our 2 biggest holes last year were a presence in the paint and a ‘smart’ shooting guard.
If we get wally, we will have filled both of those holes with pieces that have no future financial burden, but with players who will do whatever they can to help the team (they aren’t selfish.)
Now, of course, PG is our TRUE hole of the future, but we aren’t going to just settle for the first possibly good future PG that comes our way. D’Antoni knows what he wants at that spot, and we aren’t going to just take the first guy that comes along; we are going to wait for the perfect one. Fortunately, we have a good enough point-guard for the time being, and hopefully a new energizing backup.
So other than the “pg of the future,” hole, which is a very, very important spot that should be dealt with extremely cautiously and selectively, our other, more temporary holes will have been filled (if we sign wally), with cheap roll players.
people should stop over-rating sessions. He is literally the first and only young PG to come our way, and you act like we missed out on a once in a lifetime opportunity. Young PGs will become available like that every single year, you can’t be pissed that we didn’t settle on the first one that came along as our ‘pg of the future.’
you are wrong,PGs like that (for 4 mil)do not come along every year, the “PATRICK EWING”knicks still havent found a point guard.a good young point is a rare comodity my friend, when one pops up you got to be ready to take it!
Sometimes I wonder if I should take a break from watching, since the organization is taking a break from working. If they’re going to resign to thrwing this year away, what is the sense in watching? That mentality would have been more logical last year, when there was a draft pick in play.
Whatever, I know I’ll end up watching, I just won’t cancel plans or schedule my life around the games or even the rewind games for this season the way I normally would.
Wally? Seriously? Wally? He is way to slow to play the 2 so I don’t understand that way of thinking. He is a small forward. People talk about Isaiah collecting a roster of similar players, but Galinari is a 3, Chandler is a 3 (he can’t dribble enough to play the 2), Al Harrington’s best position is the 3, why in the world would Wally be an option here?
I mean I could get more excited if they were bringing in players like Rodney Carney, Gerald Green, Smush Parker, Sun Yue etc. for at least a workout. You know someone who could actually fill a spot in need and maybe surprise and pan out into a steal? Ah what do I know?
spot on..
you are so right .with donnoe walsh admitting hes just throwing the season, and with no draft pick mind you,is he just slapping the face of every fan who has paid good money for 2009 tix,and cable, and jersys.he doesnt think of us fans at all.if i wasnt such an addict,i would join you in your boycot.yep i just figured out that the real stinger is for a 2nd year in a row,i have to pay regular money for uncompetitive admitedly lousy basketball.the commish should not allow such things to happen.now i hate chris duhon and i think he sucks, but last year, when he was the only PG on the knicks and was running himself ragged,DONNIE WALSH just sat there with folded arms doing nothing.he coulda went out and at least signed some schlub to take 15 minutes per game ,but just chose to watch an ill equipped duhon wear down.this is the shit that really burns my nads
I guarantee you that by the all-star break Toney Douglas will be logging close to 20 mns a night as the backup point guard.
And I won’t even address the idea that Walsh is supposed to maneuver around the fans desires. If that were the case, the Knicks would have signed Ramon Sessions to a 4 year deal, and also signed Nate Robinson and David Lee to long term deals, effectively eliminating the Knicks chances at bringing in Lebron James.
lebron james will eliminate the knicks from bringing in lebron james, shoulda signed sessions while he was there.”A BIRD IN THE HAND…………..”
Jeff C. is right on and Ben misses the point. What or whom would you expect the Knicks to sign at this point Ben? Whomever that may be this roster, as a 30-35 win team, has small holes that need filled to even accomplish that and Wally would be one ideal candidate to sign to fill. I’m illing at the thought that the Knicks have to throw away another year for the “master” plan in 2010, when it is not a given that 2010 will belong to the Knicks. I say sign Wally, fill a hole, and let’s start biding our time to 2010 and see if the plan works. OY!
who would i sign? id rather see this team focus on a guy like sene who might be amazing in our system / in a new role / in a new city / who has upside that can help this team down the road. or who will be bad and not effect 2010 and onward…
not a one year veteran rental whose value is predetemrined…thats for sure.
the goal this year is to be better next year. the only conceivable reason for bringing wally in is if he could mentor dino or something along those lines. his contributions on the court are worthless (not to mention, this dude isnt good…)
But Ben, isn’t the majority of this team on a one year rental? Who would DW sign longterm at this point? I’m merely suggesting Wally off the bench as a 3 (I was in no way referring to him as a 2 guard!) would provide some veteran stability to the 2nd team by filling a hole on the squad, and help nurture Dino. And while I am in agreeance with you about being frustrated about our signings this summer (or lack thereof, we should be rebuilding now, not banking on 2010) we know DW is not going to change course at this point. All I want out of this year is to not get blown out night after night. MD’s system sorta prevents this, but look at the star power of the current roster. Zilch! And as I’ve been saying, 4-6 guys under contract and 6-8 empty bench seats is a helluva way to attract a “superstar” for 2010!
agreed. and its wishful thinking, i dount disagree, but id rather them take a flyer on a young guy who COULD reach his potential in our system, a morris almond a guy who has upside that could be helpful after this season.
ive been agains tthis 1 yr contracts since day 1, be it for kidd, andre miller or wally for that very reason — they help us go from 32 to 36 wins? and then they walk? how does that help us this year or next…
i hear what youre saying — whats the harm? why not fill that seat with wally? and i guess im saying, bc he doesnt halp this year or next, while taking a flyer on a dude (as we did w darko) COULD have its benefits this year or next…
maybe a guard flourishes in mike ‘d system and we can trade him for a pick at the dealdine…who cares what we get, at least its something — and somehting more than i think wally will ever be worth…
Chris Alvino = Winner.
I am not sure if that is sarcasm or not. If not, then thanks.
Wally Szczerbiak? Man it is tough being a Knicks fan. We miss out on Stephen Curry, Ricky Rubio, Jonny Flynn, Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, Ramon Sessions and we are supposed to be excited about Wally? Jeez, what happens when 2010 gets here and we can’t attract a free agent because we stink. I’m so tired of this team, but just like the rest of you I can’t abandon the team. I’ll root for the laundry.
Uh, we didn’t miss out on nash b/c we never had a chance at him; and we weren’t really eyeing flynn either. If Hill and Flynn fall to 8, we still probably go will Hill considering he has the higher ceiling and was the BPA. With that said, obviously I agree with you.
how the puck do you know that jordan hill “has a higher ceiling”? no offense! but i am sooooo tired of these espn type sports cliche’s…..and the next guy guy who calls some player a “BEAST” IS GONNA get my foot in his azz
sorry!the knicks are really getting me pissed
18 points per game in the Pac-10 is no offense? Okayyy, Bob.
And I don’t understand why people feel the need to bash Donnie Walsh because Ben made a post, based on a speculative article by Alan Hahn, about possibly bringing Wally Sczerbiak in for a year. As Ben said, this is not connected to a source.
Has Walsh said he’ll do this? no.
THE PAC 10 IS NOT THE NBA ask the other guy who we drafted from arizona and traded to portland
myles,i didnt say JORDAN HILL has no offense,i was saying to poster barnaby “no offense” meaning …no insult intended.
Wally is slow, can’t play defense and is exactly what the Knix don’t need.
DTR
Completely agree ben. At this point, there’s only one player still on the market who can bring the hype back to a team that’s destined for another terrible season and that’s AI (although i’ll get arguments)…now i’m not saying that the only player that we can acquire to bring that hype is AI b/c we can obviously trade for one (although our options are limited); however, if we’re going to spend the bi-annual on sczerbiak who is just going to be a role player contributing under 10ppg, we might as well take the risk on AI who could put up somewhere in the realms of 18 and 7 or so for us. If not, we have to trade for someone b/c our biggest upgrade of the off-season thus far is darko. That’s very intimidating to the teams that upgraded with legit player, let me tell you
I gotta go with you on this one Barnaby. I know everyone’s frustrated at the lack of action this organization has had in the offseason. While it is a time for rebuilding -which I’m all for-, some pieces must be added to bring that special spark to the team and MSG that goes beyond the one Nate brought last season. That spark that not only will pick up the team, but also help to win more games than last season. To have that go to guy that you know will hit the shot when push comes to shove will be a great relief to the roster, and once Gallo gains confidence along with Will (and of course counting on big Al to step up like he has said in his interviews), the team can have a great deal of growth. Not only it would give the rooks an all star to look up to (wishfully thinking that A.I. will have a good influence on them), but it will show Danilo and Chandler how to step when their time comes.
In Wally’s case, I just don’t think he has the athleticism that’s needed to run Mike D’s system successfully. He has a good shot and great experience, but A.I. would be a much “safer” risk than Wally.
The one thing that still goes through my head is this: the lack of movement has been horrible for us. It gives us the idea the DW has been sleeping in his office or roaming around NY thinking about a nice vacation spot in Dubai. Yet I gotta believe that he’s working the phones and trying to work something out. If the S&T with Lee haven’t worked with different teams has to be because he wasn’t satisfied with the names that would come to NY. I guess that what I’m trying to say is that not because anything’s happened means DW hasn’t been working hard. For the sake of my sanity I gotta believe he’s out there drilling hard day after day to make something happen.
I agree with you on Iverson.
As far as I am concerned, this team might not be great with Iverson, but without him, this is only a 35 win team.
Something tells me that Iverson has a good year this season.
At this time last summer, who would have taken Iverson for 1 year and $3.5 million dollars? Has his value dropped that much since then that he is not worth that small contract?
I think Iverson should be a Knick. Bring in both him and Wally for all I care.
At the very least, Iverson could be a good trade chip if he is a 20 ppg scorer this season. I am willing to bet he will do that.
Chris,
I agree with you. Allen Iverson should be a Knick. I think just his presence alone would instill much needed confidence in our younger players. We also lack depth at the pg and sg positions so I am all for AI.
By the way, if (and this is a big if), we don’t get anybody at the point position and we just want a veteran to eat up minutes, new orleans needs to get rid of antonio daniels for luxury tax purpose. Once again, a big if. On another note, I still don’t understand why DW hasn’t explored a trade like hughes and JJ for mike james and mike miller. This was brought up a little bit ago, but honestly, it clears out JJ and provides us with some veterans who could eat up quality minutes. James is a solid veteran who is quick and would work well in our system; Miller’s a good shooter who could provide prob somewhere in the realm of 12-15ppg for us depending on his minutes.
Why isnt Donnie Basketball and has multi million dollar caste of scouts out there looking for the D LEague player, Euro league player or washed up #1 pick playing on fourth street who is actually gonna add some cheap, young talent to this team.
Constantly regurgitating the same old tired names (iverson, Szerbiak, etc) really is just basketball masturbation at this point .
Is DOnnie and his crack multi million dollar staff doing this on scouting reports from 10 years ago?
I’m with you there. Find the next John Starks, Anthony Mason or the next undrafted Brad Miller, Raja Bell types.
I gree completely. No more veterans. Give a young player a chance to surprise. Then you got an assets to trade or to develop. We need to give young players a chance (like last season) and to see who, if anyone, is work keeping.
that might take a little work and take away from Donnie’s time in Cape Cod.
Remember Donnie wasnt up to making some mid night calls to his own free agents asking Lee and Nate if he REALLY had to call them at 12:01
Hopefully Donnie will get plenty of rest this year before he has to stay up past mid night and try to court Lebron to a 35 win non playoff team.
I rather see Morris Almond and Carlos Arroyo… Wally is done in my eyes, he could only help a championship team who needs a playoff vet… We have enough options at the two Hughes, Nate, Chandler and Douglas… Wally will only be able to supply shooting from time to time… He is way too one dimensional at this point and he has never been considered a leader so…. I’ll pass… At least Carlos can run the point and gives us an option in case Duhon gets hurt or Douglas is slow coming out the gate… And Morris is at least young enough to warrant seeing if he has upside…
yeah, while i believe the knicks had to rebuild their whole team, ive never seen a rebuilding team just STOP,and do absolutly nothing while the fans sit there with their thumbs up their collective asses saying “we believe in donnie ,whatever he does is great” this is just scarry, like zombie horror movie scarry
You can say that, but there’s never been a team in a situation like this. Walsh has been constricted by the shrinking salary cap, and he’s not willing to dip into that to sign an unproven player to a long term deal. I liked the idea of Ramon for 3 million a year, but I fully understand Walsh’s reasoning, and if it pays off, I hope you can admit that it was a wise decision.
And the Nets, Timberwolves, and Grizzlies have just “stopped” Apart from draft picks, who have those guys brought in? Walsh has to work around Isiah Thomas’ blunders, but the Nets have done nothing but shred salary (like the Knicks,) the Grizzlies haven’t done anything except probably bringing in Allen Iverson which is probably the dumbest thing in the world to do when you have OJ Mayo, and the Timberwolves have done nothing except pursue every available point guard in the world.
On a side note, I’m not so sure if fans were infatuated with Session’s basketball ability or just the idea of having a “point guard of the future.” I can say that for myself, at least. I don’t really recall seeing Sessions all that much. I really wanted Sessions, and when he signed with Minnesota I was disappointed, but I wonder if he had been a bust, would people then bash Walsh for signing an unproven player for that much money?
Now we are comparing ourselves to the Nets, Grizz and T Wolves.
Fun times.
would you rather me compare the Knicks to the Cavs and Lakers? We’re not a good team.
4 mil isnt that much money, christ he gave duhon more than that!the NETS have gotten more back on trades than the knicks will in free agency.anybody can do what walsh is doing ,waiting 2 years to try to bring in lebron, and if he stays in cleveland….plan shot…if he gets hurt …plan shot …you just cant sit by and do nothing for 2 years in the hope of 1 player
do nothing for 2 years?
Traded Zach Randolph, traded Jamal Crawford, drafted 3 players, traded Quentin Richardson, acquired Al Harrington, Larry Hughes, Tim Thomas temporarily, and Darko. Please stop acting like Walsh hasn’t done anything, that’s hyperbole. He’s been patient, maybe sometimes to a fault, but he hasn’t been inactive.
he hasnt done anything to improve this team, just to dump salary.he even took back a guy with a heart condition who he knew would never play
the nets have made trades and the t-wolves just signed sessions!what do you mean they STOPPED?
The Knicks have made trades too. Both the Knicks and Nets have made trades solely with the objective of dumping salary. The Nets could have gotten Boozer, but they chose not to because of 2010. Are you really going to say that Courtney Lee and Yi Jianlian is more than the Knicks will get in free agency? Your pessimism is not letting you see reality. It’s not Walsh’s fault the world is economy is in ruins.
The Sessions signing wasn’t a good signing. Not only does he not fit with the team, but it eliminates their chances of bringing Rubio back.
can u say devin harris?
RUBIO?ARE YOU GONNA ACTUALLY SIT THERE AND SAY WE DIDNT SIGN SESSIONS CUZ WE ARE GONNA WAIT FOR RUBIO?JEEEZIZ CHRIST MYLES,YOU REALLY REACH JUST TO DISAGREE WITH SOMEONE ,THATS THE MOST NONSENSICLE REASON IVE HEARD THUS FAR ON WHY WE DIDNT SIGN SESSIONS! AND who said he didnt fit? D’ANTONI wanted him.
THE NETS made trades that brought back young talent and got rid of old stars KIDD,CARTER,JEFFERSON —–HARRIS,LOPEZ,LEE,AND JWILL,THE KNICKS HAVE ONLY DUMPED PLAYERS AND GOT NOTHING IN RETURN THAT WILL HELP OUR FUTURE
Bob,
We dont have a veteran future hall of fame player like Vince Carter to trade for young talent. Kidd, Carter, and Jefferson cannot be compared to the likes of Zebo and Jamal Crawford. Kidd and Carter are future hall of famers and Jefferson is a very nice ball player albeit very overpaid too. I am upset about Sessions too, but if eddy curry is in good shape like he is said to be in then maybe we will be able to move him and jj afterall and have our share of two max fa. gurantee you in donnie can sign a chris bosh, as much as i dont want bosh lebron would 100 percent jumo on board. so if donnie thinks that 4 million for sessions will ruin a chance at lebron james, well hey we arent going anywhere past the first rounds with sessions anyway, so why not have a shot, and thats all we can ask for at the moment to land lebron and 1a.
you gotta take the pieces as they come, you cant stop working to wait for lebron and when lebron aint there what do you do? i say take sessions now ,in 2010,take bosh,in 2011 take another fa with the curry n jeffries money and bingo ….your team is buit
yes and miss out on a CHANCE to sign Lebron James…. WHY? All we can do is put ourselves in position to sign Lebron.
Courtney Lee is a good young player with upside. The Nets dumped Vinsanity to set themselves up even better for 2010
The Knicks traded a garbage player for another teams garbage.
They also laid out 3 mil for a late round draft pick –>big deal.
Everyone – even you Myles –agrees that this is an awful team going into the season in a Conference where most other teams have significantly improved. (Washington, Detroit, Charlotte should be better, Toronto clearly is better)
Winning 35 games isnt gonna make us relevant to the degree that Lebron is signing. We NEED to get 40 plus wins and beat up the Cavs or at least play Orlando tight.
Then we are relevant and Lebron will say hmmm.
Right now Im hoping that Donnie wakes up and pulls off some deals early on to actually get better.
there is always a chance of a young player turning out to be a bust,it happens in every sport in the universe, but to just sit there and do nothing is the real crime.now im not saying just throw yer money around on anybody, but when a chance to sign, what shouldve been a nice piece to the puzzle,……..oh forget it youll just twist what i say to something that you want to hear
Wally is too old and can he still run up and down the court like coach Mike D wants too? Whatever happend with Morris Almond?? give him that last roster spot and lets go with some younger and cheaper alternatives
Gerlad Green is better than Almond in my opinion!
Why isnt anyone mentioning the name Gerald Green? That is a no brainer pick up if you ask me, he fits right in this system. Why are we talking about old guys?
Not saying he is a savior, but he is a great fit and nice piece for this team. What about this opening day lineup:
Duhon
Green
Chandler
Lee
Curry
Any thoughts?
Only one….hope to God that Eddy Curry is not here come opening day or starting for that matter. Weight loss or no weight loss.
I just mentioned him above, not the first time I have either. The kid is super talented, plus he’s still wet behind the ears. He should be humbled enough to at this point (bouncing around the league, not sticking anywhere) to listen and learn under the right tutelage and coaching.
Lmao.
Not a bad idea but I can’t shoot like he use to an he can’t move no better than a.houston.
Just bring in IVERSON ALREADY.
Or some1 young with upside like GERALD GREEN.remember on draft night the crowd was screaming his name for the knicks to pick HIM.
Even d.mason.
Come on now there is better options out there.
DA ANSWER TO THE KNICKS THIS SEASON IS IVERSON…
Morris Almond anyone? Gerald Green? Rashard McCants? Rodney Carney?
Lets aim for young talent! I highly doubt any of those guys will be much better than they are now…but they still have potential
If we want a shooter, I say Morris Almond over Wally
Yeah, does anyone know anything about Morris Almond? He looked like he might be able to play for us this year. In a horrible, horrible off season where the Knicks writers have been grasping for hope, how come there hasn’t even been a mention? Underreporting on a Knicks story?
Also, I totally agree about Rodney Carney. A young athletic wing who can play defense and be a spot up three point shooter and will cost nothing? Come on! Something. Anything. Please. I’m so lonely.
Ben: as you can see from the commentors, veterans are out. Surprises are in. Let’s try Sene, Almond, Green, Carney, Yue or any other unemployed player who really wants to make it in the NBA. Someone might surprise. This season is for getting better not winning a championship. Over the season we need to trade for upgrades from our expiring contracts and from JJ and Curry. DW will be very busy IMO.
here here…
lets take a waiver on a few guys, hope they blossom in our system and either keep them or move them with a bad contract…thats the only thing we can really do at this point
better than calling wally in to show off his three point shooting ability
Originally I was against Iverson at MSG. However now that we have swung and missed on every single PG we need to get AI. He will put up big numbers and elevate the general play of this team. Also this team needs some sort of spark heading into training camp. The Answer might just be Iverson.
Alan Hahn must be very very bored. Why even thinking of Wally when Iverson is still available ? Wally has all the cons of AI but less than 5% of his pros.
I guess if he doesnt post everyday he’s not paid
Bring In A.I. so that we can make the playoffs and give the young guys a taste of the playoff atmosphere. Iverson will come in here and show the young guys hustle on the court and get the players and Us Fans excited finally this offseason.
I love AI, always have but he doesn’t fit this offense. The offense is built on ball distribution, so bringing in a guy (no matter how much better of a scorer he is than the others on the team) who doesn’t fit the system (which is the only real guarantee of the team) doesn’t make much sense. Plus even if we did win he wouldn’t be here for more than a year so his effect on the win total wouldn’t really matter the following year, considering in coming free agents would know he wouldn’t be sticking around.
I like people’s suggestions about Green or Carney or Almond (who didn’t look bad in summer league, especially when compared to how bad a shooter Douglas looked). Obviously only if they agree to 1 year deals, but the only problem is counting the rookies the Knicks would have a 12 man rotation which nobody has. Something would have to be worked out there if somebody else was to be brought in.
Good Point! Maybe he doesnt fit on this team. If not Iverson then who?
No sarcasm Chris, you were the first to think about Wally – you deserve credit for that.
Has Flip Murray been signed? Would he do a one year contract at this point?
Ben, get a grip on yourself. Go get 4 or 5 shots, then throw up in the toilet or on the floor like the rest of us.
Alan Hahn was just turning his focus to us to fill up his blog site. It should have become clear when he stated “His game would fit well with Danilo Gallinari’s”.
Yea, in a game of horse.
