    J. Hill looks EXACTLY like SHO’NUFF the SHOGUN OF HARLEM from the 80′s movie “The Last Dragon”… LOOK IT UP AND POST A SIDE BY SIDE PICTURE AND SEE WHAT THE PEOPLE THINK…
    J.HILL = SHO’NUFF (OR SHOGUN DEPENDING ON WHAF THE PEOPLE WANT) It’ll be the coolest nickname since OAKLEY (OAK TREE)…

    KOBE = THE BLACK MAMBA
    LEBRON = KING JAMES
    HAKEEM = THE DREAM
    AMARE = STAT
    TONY DOUGLAS = GHOSTFACE(THRILLAHH!!!)

      You’re right Moe he does resemble that guy, but Jesus he needs to find his game before he finds a nickname. Please Tommy do not oblige MiamiMoe’s request lol. No shots.

      I won’t be able to see the potential blowout by the Celtics tonight. I’m headed out of town as I speak. I’ll be roaming the internet looking for a live stream though!

      Prediction coming soon.

        LMAO>. Im sure Toney Douglas appreciates being in such company listed above.

        I agree Lets see Hill get in a few games before we start doling out nicknames. As it looks now the singer Jordan Hill deserves more cred.

        Im sorry for hating on the guy but i dont see IT in J Hill yet.

    I agree w/ the point that he needs to do something to warrant a nickname but you guys…HE LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE SHO’NUFF!!!!
    I’M NOT GONNA SIT AROUND AND LET SUCH A COOL NICKNAME GO TO WASTE…Esp. when Sho’nuff da Shogun of Harlem is such a cool character and that player resembling him is on my team…
    Biggie don’t be so harsh on the kid J.HILL hasn’t even played in a reg season game yet and you’re already crucifying him…he’s got talent and now that we got a solid front court he can develop at his own pace…either way don’t let this cool nickname go to waste…

    JORDAN HILL = SHO’NUFF, THE SHOGUN OF HARLEM

    it’s got so much potential…when he makes nice plays MSG can scream out “WHOSE DA MASTAAHH??!!!”, SHO’NUFF!!
    Just think of the entrance theme!!!

    @HaS: I go to school in Wisconsin (i’m pulling for landry) so as you can probably guess i have no MSG here. I do subscribe to league pass which is supposed to include league pass broadband, but NBA.com is one of the most poorly run sites i have ever come across. Nothing works yet, and whenever you click something they just bring you back to the first page you were at; very frustrating…

    anyway, if you find any sort of live stream, please email me the link jeffcykiert@gmail.com

      I’m in the same boat. I live in Cali, and have nba league pass and nba league pass broadband, and still cant get the feed. NBA.com sucks. Please someone who has the capability, stream this game. We’re all brothers in fandom here. Help your brother!

    Oh and that interview was awkward and annoying. I thought that the Jordan Hill singer thing was just a joke to open up the interview, but that just went on for the entire interview. Then Tony comes on and I’m thinkin “alright nice let’s talk some basketball,” and the singer thing just continues. I was not expecting that hole interview to be based on some corny joke about jordan hill having the same name as someone….

    neither player seemed to understand why he was even being interviewed. I think i heard a guy in the background doing that cartoon noise when somebody messes up “waahh, waahh, waaahh, waaaaaaaahhhh”

      really.. its not like J Hill’s name is Jeff Cykiert or anything.

      Im sure there are a few million Jordan Hills in the US

      Seth — no disrespect but If you get in front of NBA players again please ask some relevant questions. And I love your blog. much respect for that effort..

    So lets talk about Cuttino Mobley.

    Does Donnie keep him on the Roster and potentially lose the insurance settlement (80% of his number) AND more definitively have to pay a dollar for dollar luxury tax for his 9 mil salary?

    The insurance settlement thing is up in the air because he is still on the roster and not officially medically retired until he is waived.

    Seems like a big nut for Dolan to swallow just on the off hand that someone would want the money saved at the deadline (when it will only be half the amount)

    DW has plenty of expirings to deal if a major deal pops up and he is going to HAVE TO let many of them walk away at zero if he still wants to keep plan 2010.

    The time to deal Mobley was around draft day so the acquiring team could waive them and reap the full benefits of the 80% insurance settlement.

      I thought the reason Walsh has not traded Cuttino’s contract is because he could not get a useful player in return. The Knicks will continue to pay Cuttino until they waive him and the insurance then covers 80% of his salary. Waiving Cuttino would benefit ownership only. Am I correct?? Help.

        Mobley’s number is higher than I thought.

        9.5 million for 2009

        So The Knicks have to pay that salary PLUS 9.5 mil in luxury tax

        we are talking about 17.1 million dollars. (9.5+(80%*9.5))

          Biggie,

          Mobley is retired. 80% of his salary is payed for unless he is waived. If waived, the Knicks would be required to pay the whole thing — no insurance payback. Additionally, the contract (which doesn’t retire) will still count 9.5M against the luxury tax computations. There is no benefit to waiving Mobley.

          The converse is true. His contract is extremely valuable to a team in need of tax relief around trade deadline. Remember that the tax is based on the payroll at the end of the year. Remember too, that teams don’t have to trade $ for $ — (believe it’s 30% difference of the total deal). So, if Mobley’s contract is traded for a contract that is worth12M (arbitrary figure), the team trading for him could save substantially more (5M plus insurance payments). A bigger package would allow bigger luxury tax savings.

          I don’t know if the insurance has to be payed out equally throughout the year. If so, the knicks could take the hit and their trading partner could have 100% paid by insurace. A little fudging room perhaps.

            Also found this. Read the second paragraph:

            53. How do retired players count against the cap?
            Any money paid to a player is included in team salary, even if the player has retired. For example, James Worthy retired in 1994, two years before his contract ended. He continued to receive his salary for the 1994-95 and 1995-96 seasons, so his salary was included in the Lakers’ team salary in those seasons. It is at the team’s discretion (or as the result of an agreement between the team and player) whether to continue to pay the player after he has retired.

            There is one exception whereby a player can continue to receive his salary, but the salary is not included in the team’s team salary. This is when a player is forced to retire for medical reasons and a league-appointed physician confirms that he is medically unfit to continue playing. There is a waiting period of one year following the injury or illness before a team can apply for this salary cap relief. If the waiting period expires mid-season (on any date prior to the last day of the regular season), then the player’s entire salary for that season is removed from the team’s team salary. For example, in March 2003 the Knicks were allowed to remove Luc Longley’s entire 2002-03 salary from their books (and since the luxury tax is based on the team salary as of the last day of the regular season, the Knicks avoided paying any tax on Longley’s salary). This provision can also be used when a player dies while under contract.

            If the player “proves the doctors wrong” and resumes his career, then his salary is returned to his team’s team salary when he plays in his 10th game in any one season (including pre-season, regular season and playoff games). This allows a player to attempt to resume his career without affecting his team unless his comeback is ultimately successful. A team loses this salary cap relief even if the player later signs and plays 10 games with a different team.

            Teams are not allowed to trade for disabled players and then apply for this salary cap relief. Only the team for which the player was playing when he was disabled may request this relief.

            If a player retires, even for medical reasons, his team does not receive a salary cap exception to acquire a replacement player.

            By the way, Cuttino officially retired after the trading deadline. So Donnie has a backup plan if CM isn’t traded.

    I love what Donnie’s doing. Jeffries is going to be so easy to trade if he stays healthy. Like I said…I think Jeffries is going to the Wizards for Mike James or Haywood. I really think the Wizards want that kid McGhee to have a coming out party this year.
    Depending on the cap (give or take 2-3 milli)..we’re going to have close to 30 million dollars to spend…and that’s with Curry ON the roster.
    Now close your eyes and imagine if he can trade Curry……………yeah.
    Sweet right?

    Oct 09, 2009, 5:52 pm at 5:52 pm #

    Yea, i mean if we do somehow pull off trading curry and jeffries (jeffries shouldn’t be a problem), then we will be in such a sweet spot. literally 40 million dollars to build whatever amazing lineup you can, with galo chandler hill and douglas to place around them.

    I’m starting to lose all hope in Curry. I mean, if he can’t get back into decent basketball shape and stay on the floor at some point this season, his career is completely over…

    And i never thought his career was actually over, at 27, so i just believed he would get better, but i don’t know anymore.

    Dream Scenario.

    Trade Lee with Curry for expirings.

    Trade Jeffries for an expiring

    Sign LeBron, and Bosh, and ray allen to the MLE.

    Resign Al harington for a discount at about 7-8 Mil. (bird rights would allow this, right?)

    Douglas
    Allen
    James
    Harrington
    Bosh

    Chandler, Galo, Hill, on the bench to play small or big; however you want.

    haha i love doing that

      Has the salary cap projections been raised to 70M for next year?

      Actually, Bird rights would not allow you to sign Harrington. In order to sign LeBron, you would have to renounce those rights or Harrington would hold over 10M of cap space holds.

      You’re obviously not a math or Business Administration student. but you are a great Knick fan (and a good dreamer too — if that is not synonymous) lol
