Give Them a Shot?

With the Knicks making roster room today, there is some roster flexibility and we will see what Donnie Walsh chooses to do about it.

There are a bevy of players who have been red tagged recently and I think there could be a good fit with Ime Udoka, who was just bounced from the Blazers, who’s grittiness I’ve always liked.

Now, we understand that there is a logjam already with the Knicks rotation, and that it will take time for any player to mix into the system, but Udoka would give the team toughness and a good perimeter threat at the 2.

That said, I wouldn’t want to supplant whatever minutes Toney Douglas has earned.

Anyway, just a thought, and while we’re at it I’m interested to hear if you think Donnie Walsh should have any interest in Mike Taylor, who lit the Knicks up last year at the Garden, or maybe even someone like ex-Syracuse star Paul Harris who was recently set free by the Jazz.

  • Bob

i dont understand why you wouldnt want someone who is better than douglas to take a spot on the team.whoever are the best players to improve the KNICKS should play.well its prolly a moot point anyway, cuz by the time DONNIE WALSH does anything TONEY DOUGLAS will be up for retirement.we went all of last year without a back-up point, and all of last year without a 2 or a legit center, why would he move now?

  • joetheknick

Bob: you already have a veteran 2 in Larry Hughes. Problem is he doesn’t look like he is the answer. Who should DW bring on board for this great improvement. What if Douglas or Robinson or Chandler got a chance at 2 and team improved? Wouldn’t that be a change??

  • itzyung1

How many Legit centers are in the league? how many 2′s were available? How many decent backup Points where available?
Keep in mind the player’s contract has to expire after this season.
And I don’t know WHO you are talking about when you said the person’s better than Douglas.
Dont jump on the Ghostface Bandwagon when he shows you all not only is he a capable PG but he was one of the Draft’s best PG’s.

  • joetheknick

In my opinion, Don’t give them a Shot. We gave Q. Richardson a shot. We gave Tim Thomas a shot. We didn’t give Trevor Ariza or Renaldo Balkman a shot. What did we gain. Now is the time the give Ghostface and Landry and Hill a shot. Somewhere in this group is the next John Starks. Patience.

  • gr33nbag

Or maybe Mr. Walsh is planning to move Larry? As his contract is 13mio Knicks need a room to suck two smaller contracts (of course expiring after this season). Hughes might be a valuable asset in some teams who are playing for something.

  • Bob

my point is there could be lots of better players than T doug out there ,why wouldnt you give them a shot just cuz it cuts into toney dougs minutes, hes proved 2 things 1)he can play dee 2)he cant shoot for shite…im not ready to hand over the riegns to him yet, although most of you are so hungry you actually see him morphing into MAGIC JOHNSON.And last year by the time we signed hugs it was too late ,and we still never got a back-up point(unless you consider CHRIS DUHON a back, which means ,we never signed a starting point)Can we wait a couple years before we start crowning ghost face douglas as the “steal of the century”

  • joetheknick

Bob: who did you have in mind? do you agree this player needs to be an expiring contract? why will it take ghostface, hill or landry a couple of years to show improvement? aren’t we trying to build a team? It sounds like you want to bring in a superstar? will that make the difference you are looking for? Need a plan. I believe DW has a plan. I guess that is where we disagree. Just my opinion.

  • Bob

signing DUHON ,and drafting JORDAN HILL and passing on RAMON SESSIONS is not my idea of “BUILDING” a team duhon sucks and you wont even know if hill will be a bust for 3 more years GHOSTFACE cant throw the ball in the ocean!are you actually watching?LANDRY?what does he have to do with this team?he’ll be at the end of the bench all year,he aint seein no burn.the rest of these guys contracts are all up at the end of the year HARRINGTON,LEE.NATE,HUGHS,MILICIC,DUHON…..THIS PLAN SUCKS,DANTONIS SYSTEM SUCKS

  • itzyung1

this is crazy we finally get a steal in the draft and there are people like Bob who focus on the bad things he does right now.
And why did you say you want Ramon Sessions and then turnaround and say Toney D can’t shoot.
Thats completely false but also a double standard….I dislike hypocrites.

  • Jeff Cykiert

Bob thinks Hill sucks, and Toney Sucks, and everyone sucks, and everything we did sucked, and every player we didn’t get is amazing.

Yea toney is terrible he can’t shoot for ‘shite,’ he doesn’t look good at all. There’s no reason to give him minutes and develop him.

If you read closely Bob just thinks every thing about the team is terrible no matter what; there’s no logical thought or reason involved. It’s a syndrome that a lot of once-knicks fans have, after being subjected to the last decade… They are just programmed to expect failure and to think everything is terrible because that’s what they have come to expect. It’s a subconscious defense mechanism.

Don’t worry bob it’s gonna be OK.

  • joetheknick

Jeff: your getting too serious. Just need a little patience with Bob. In about 10 weeks when we can all agree progress is being made, we will be able to say ” I told you so Bob”

  • itzyung1

    Jeff, I can’t agree more.

  • Bob

    OR ITS ALL TRUE!

  • Bob

OR JOETHEKNICK:you will realize that everything ive been saying has come true, and you finally wont think that just cuz DONNIE WALSH made a move ,it wasnt all gold! ive said it before and ill say it again,ANY TEAM THAT BOASTS AL HARINGTON AS ITS BEST PLAYER,ISNT GOING VERY FAR

  • Bob

YOU GUYS ARE IN FANTASY LAND

  • joetheknick

Bob: everything you have been saying will come true, if DW does not pick up a superstar next summer. Then and only then I will admit the plan did not work. Meanwhile we have a work in progress and Al Harrington is our best player. What is so wrong with that picture?

  • HaS

Maybe Marcus Landry is the next John Starks, Wilson Chandler cannot play the 2 this year, Hill obviously isn’t a 2 either.

Where is Gerald Green? He’s a young gun, I’d give him a chance.

  • HaS
  • Bob

IM ONLY SPEAKING OF THIS SEASON

  • Bob

WHO is the steal of the draft?

  • illsun

so hows ramon sessions working out in Minnesota.

They must have a terrific team for him to be playing so few minutes.

  • illsun

    ramon sessions cannot shoot.

  • illsun

EVERYONE UNDERSTAND WE ARE BARELY A .500 TEAM THIS YEAR, BOB !!!

    EVERYONE !!!

you are not telling us anythign we do not know.

there are about 15 other teams in the league who KNOW they are not going to win the championship this year.

at least we know there is some hope 12 months away.

  • Bob

its called the “no talent syndrome” the KNICKS have no talent, besides GALLO,there isnt one guy on this team who can be an all-star,unless you think winning the “slam dunk contest” makes you a great player.that selfish little prick is all about himself .instead of consentrating on making the foul shot, this guy has to remeber who to salute, who to pull his ears to ……self promotion B.S

  • joetheknick

Bob: it sure seems hopeless. you say you are only talking about this year. what about next year. w hen will we be contenders? what is your plan??

  • Bob

has how do we get him?

  • Bob

my plan was:as soon as zeke was fired ,hire defensive wizard TOM THIBIDEAU as your new head coach and then for 2 years build a defensive team monster…..the best defense that the nba ever saw, then when 2010 comes get 2 of the best FAs available add them to your defensive team and play ball

  • HaS

I have no idea, looks like he’s not in the league. Which amazes me, the kid is 23 yrs old. Maybe he’s overseas? I wish Walsh would pick up the phone and at least bring him in for a look.

  • Bob

and get a great point guard to run this team

  • HaS

I would have loved a Tom Thibodeau hiring.

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

    good point BOB.

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

AL isn’t the best overall player on the knicks
thats a tough choice to choose which player is the best
but i give it to LEE.

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

    true that
but what if he turnout to be like rex ryan?

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

    DOUG
    will be doing that soon….
