Heat 115 Knicks 93

by Tommy Dee on October 28th, 2009 at 10:27 pm

BOX SCORE

Difficult to watch.

All preseason long the team talked about defensive pressure and energy and they had it…for about 12 minutes.

At one point the Heat made 25 of 30 shots.

25 of 30.

And the starters just stopped playing leading to a 34 third quarter points and that turned a 9 point first half lead into a blowout.

I mean, it’s tough to go crazy after one game, but how on earth can a team in its first game just stop playing?

There are no excuses, no explanations. If Wilson Chandler and Nate Robinson continue to struggle, this team has no chance. They are nowhere near the level they were last year.

Neither is Chris Duhon.

But forget the shots, that effort defensively wasn’t seen in the preseason. It was embarrassing. The Heat came in and shoved it down the team’s throat, and I was completely wrong about it.

The Knicks will return to action Friday, in Charlotte.

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

    this team is bad
    but the coaching is WORSE

  • Myles A. Mills

I don’t really have much good to say, apart from the obvious fact that Danilo Gallinari is God.

Hopefully they will bounce back on Friday, because I did something I never do tonight: turn away from the Knicks to watch another team. If you’re not going to go hard, then I’m not going to watch.

Charlotte lost by 30, so hopefully we can get a W there, and in the home opener where I’ll be present.

Disappointing, though, to say the least.

  • EQ1217

WOW!! You now it’s bad when even Tommy can’t put a positive spin on this.

Gallo looked good shooting in the 2nd half, but he has to try and take it to the hole once in awhile

    81 games to go…

  • HaS

    I tried ta’ told ya’!!

Very difficult to watch, but us Knick fans have been a glutton for punishment for what seems like decades.

Galinari still looks 1 dimensional. After you hit 3 in a row you should be able to get to the basket on even the best defender. Drive. Ah well, it was over by then anyways.

    Charlotte here we come!

    “Let’s do this!”

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

can’t take it to the hole with a bad back

  • traps9

Amen to that. Someone abducted Gallo then brought him back for the second half.

I turned it over to watch the Yanks; not much better. Back to MSG to watch Gallo go off like a roman candle then curse at the loss. For some reason, it’s hard as a fan for me not to yell “blow it up” and “2010″ after tonight, but I’ll try.

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

    lmao

    “lets do this”

    lets get done up rite.lmao..

  • http://theKnicksBlog.com Tommy Dee

    LOL.

  • Mucha

    1. The backcourt was terrible, Chris Duhon is a scrub – looked like he didn’t even try to play well.

    2. The lack of intensity was scandalous (loose balls, rebounds).

    3. Jared Jeffries is terrible, period.

    4. Al Harrington had a great first quarter but then… BS.

    5. David Lee played well offensively but he’s too short to guard O’Neal like Clyde said and the roster isn’t deep enough to let him play against other PF’s.

    6. The Knicks played 24 seconds or less offense.

    7. Wilson Chandler has to be more active/play harder, he had a really nice 2nd half but his performance in the first quarters was awful.

    8. I like D’Antoni but I hate this jumpshooting mentality.

    9. Darko Milicic played well and so did Gallinari.

    10. Most improved player award : Michael Beasley, Anthony Randolph or Danilo Gallinari.

  • Mucha

    Tried once.

  • Eduardo15

How about watching Jeffries shooting those bricks from the 3 pt line? What a pathetic vision it was..

I was heavily criticizing Danillo, but he did pick up after the half. That said, I agree with everyone saying he can’t be a one trick pony.

  • Myles A. Mills

why do you need to drive when you’re on fire?

  • HaS

    Ok that sarcasm hurt ME.

I was secretly hoping to be wrong.

Why doesn’t _’antoni start Al at the 2? He’s a better ball handler than Chandler and he could post up all day against opposing guards. Since he’s not going to rebound anyway put him in the backcourt. Start Chandler at the 3 or 4 (he’ll get more boards than Al probably) and put Jeffries at the 5 and play Darko some significant minutes for the Tooth Fairy’s sake.

I’d start cutting Lee’s minutes if he isn’t going to play defense.

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

that’s when he foundout it’s not as good as he thought
but he can be our downtown threat

2bad we don’t have a p.g that breaks down the D an kicks out

  • Eduardo15

I played college basketball… in Brazil, though.. hehe

  • SilentJay

The intensity shown during the preseason was completely lost. No aggresivness on the rebounds front, no shots contested… It was hard to watch, really. Gallo started heating up his stroke but I would’ve liked to see him going more to the hoop instead of relying so heavily on his outside shot. I actually liked what I saw from Darko the few minutes he had before walking off after that fall, making it pretty clear that his presence is much needed on D. For the first two quarters you can say that the game was tight, but it seemed liked they actually just gave up. You could see D’antoni looking disgusted from the bench. If there was ever a time to come to conclusions it was during this one: “I gotta start driving more to the hoop”. Plain and simple.
I do think that Miami played a lot more than what they’re capable of, though. But overall, this team wants to rely on individualities instead of opting for a collective style of play, which is really what should be done when the shots aren’t falling. I was really dissapointed in Harington, I mean the guy didn’t try to go for rebounds OR assits. Wasn’t this guy all up on carrying this team and working on “togetherness”? Whatever chemistry there was a couple of days ago, it wasn’t tonight.
And by the way, if you’re having a blowout on your very first game, be smart and play your rookies.

  • BiggieSmalls

    two things that stuck out..

    Al Buckets – ZERO REBOUNDS!!

    Duhon — MINUS TWENTY SIX!!

On.. and The cavs are 0 and two.

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

i like that AL AT THE 2

but u can’t take minutes from the teams best rebounder we will lose by 30 40 everynite
yea LEE D isn’t good but rebounds is part of D an O

  • Sergio

Terrible coaching by Mike D’Antoni. This team is bricking three after three after three and he does nothing. No heart or pride. How can you justify playing Jared Jeffries 35 minutes? WTH? Why did we stop going into Darko Milicic down low? Milicic only played 16 minutes!! And Jordan Hill laughing after the game. D’Antoni smiling and makes jokes in the post-game. Unbelievable.

Thankfully the majority of these losers won’t be here next year. And if we cannot sign LeBron James or Dwyane Wade, I do not want to go forward with D’Antoni. I cannot take this chucking 40 three’s a game and playing no defense.

  • Eduardo15

    Agreed.

  • HaS

3′s are fools gold. They’re beautiful when they’re falling, but ugly when off target. Not to mention the other team has a better chance of running off the long rebounds from long distance shots.

Diversifying your attack gives you a better chance of STAYING on fire. When a good shooter can drive and get to the line and see that ball go through the rim off free throws the bucket only gets bigger.

Plus he would be able to find open people when breaking down the defense. If Galinari is going to be the great player that everyone hear thinks he’s going to be (or God as you think he is) then he’s going to have to get to the bucket. Which will make it possible for him to create shots for other players and make his teammates better.

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

    jeff only took 2 3′s

darko needs to play at the C

that’s gonna be a tough 1 if all 3 have a good season

  • Mucha

    Win.

… but Gallo should in fact develop a midrange jumpshot or take advantage of it if he has one.

  • EQ1217

When you’re the 6th pick in the draft, you have to do more than shoot 13 threes.

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

man i can’t stop stressing how bad of a coach danni boy is

  • edhan

I”m sorry…I know it’s one game. But Jeffries is awful. Seeing him put the ball on the floor was difficult to watch.

  • Bob

DUHON has gotta go,i dont care who replaces him,hes just gotta go,he stinks!those old crab shells in the bottom of my kitchen garbage smell pretty good next to duhon

  • Eduardo15

To tell you the truth, I look at Danillo and J.Hill and neither really impress me.

I hope to be wrong, really do… but I just don’t like what I see now. And when you’re thinking two lottery picks.. that’s depressing.

I guess I’ll have to wait and see.

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

but like i have stated danni boy is going to live by the 3 an die by the 3

when danni boy said he thinks the team GOT THE POINT

they did get the point just shoot 3′s

  • Bob

    DARKO hurt his knee

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

agreed hand the key over to the rookie

    trade duhon for alston..

  • http://theKnicksBlog.com Tommy Dee

and sessions on the bench in the 4th quarter after 18 minutes, 5 points 1 assist.

    Flynn killing it.

  • BiggieSmalls

    agreed

  • Mucha

I like what I saw from Gallinari even though he needs to move a little bit more without the ball and develop his midrange game. I like the fact that he used the headfake to draw a foul and create opportunities for himself.

The ability to go to the line and hit the midrange jumper could propel him to stardom.

  • Bob

trade DUHON and im sayin this for the last time kool-aiders,YER OVERATING CHANDLER!he shoulda went in that trade for the 5th pick

  • Bob

ill still take him over duhon

  • Mucha

    LMAO

    Yes it was.

  • Bob

his game will improve with age

  • Mucha

He was hot – 7/13 is a great statistic.

    Can’t complain about that.

  • Mucha

You can’t choose who’s guarding you.

  • Mucha

    You’re totally right.

  • Eduardo15

Yeah, he’s only 21 years old, I may need to be more patient with him.

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

dude has a bad back meng
an wil probably never be good..

  • BiggieSmalls

anything Sessions does in Minny is irrelevant. They run a completely different offense and it is a completely different situations.

you cannot apply what he does game to game in Minny and apply it to what he might have done as a starter/major reserve in NYC.That said Sessions was PLUS Six with 2 steals in 18 minutes.

With Duhon sucking it he likely would have gotten major minutes.

What we do know for sure is if Sessions were here he WOULD NOT be chucking up an inordinate number of threes like most of the players on this squad.

Duhon for 32 minutes a game is a recipe for disaster. 39 three ball attempts?? are you kidding me

  • EQ1217

Agreed. If we only had drafted Gordon, Jennings & Blair.

  • Mucha

    Hate.

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

if he has a terrible back
he will be what he is showcasing rite now..

  • HaS

Cavs 0-2, I tried to tell people Toronto was pretty good on paper and much better on paper than the Knicks. Someone tried to say they were in the same battle for the playoffs that this team is. Identify yourself! LOL

  • Mucha

Dude you’re as bad as the game was.

  • HaS

Don’t get rid of _’antoni he’s a great comedian and “the best coach in the world” according to someone here. Identify yourself! :-)

  • Eduardo15

How about seeing him shotting those bricks from downtown?

  • http://theKnicksBlog.com Tommy Dee

Not defending duhon at all. just saying i still wouldn’t have spent 2010 money on sessions.

  • HaS

How about Blair contributing on a championship caliber team? And the 8th pick in the LOTTERY barely playing for a losing team… IN A BLOWOUT!! The worst.

  • HaS

He started 2-7 from three! Go to the basket. Then he got hot in “garbage time”, yea he played great!

  • HaS

Yea a player who can’t shoot from three, but has the sense to drive to the basket and not take many would have been a welcome change for this team.

People forget he is an excellent slasher even without a J, that would be instrumental in setting up players like Galinari who can’t get their own shots (right now anyway, hope that changes).

  • BiggieSmalls

Duhon looked slow and if he wasnt playing pick and roll with Lee had no concept on distributing the ball or getting anyone in position to do anything but hoist a three pointer.

If we are talking 4 mil on sessions that would have been a no brainer considering JJ will likely get dealt to even the books.

    Duhon is awful awful awful

At this point anyone would be better than him.. IF we suck this year because of him kiss 2010 goodbye.

people who were happy with the point guard situation need to rethink that.

  • BiggieSmalls

at this point any player who DOES NOT look for the three would be a god send for this team..

  • Bob

sometimes it looks as if WILSON CHANDLER doesnt know the game of basketball

  • BiggieSmalls

i think you can call two minutes at the end of a blow out NOT playing.

  • Eduardo15

2 did the trick… made me want to puke.

  • Bob

YEAH,YEAH!Where were you guys when i was screaming about signing Session?

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

i’m calling it the way i see it

i want the best for the knicks as much as the biggest fan there is but i’m not going to bullshit an say stuff that isn’t real

yes he is still young an we will see

hill has this year an next then u can call him a bust..

  • Bob

lets trade DUHON and CHANDLER for RUBIO

  • Bob

    ANYBODY WANT ANY KOOL-AID?

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

yo HAS i just read it again that sounds good meng
try an get that info to danni boy as ASAP

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

but cannot cut lee minutes by alot

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

    let me guess
    danni boy flavor
    or donnie?

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

    lmao..

  • Mucha

Duhon is awful but still, passing on Sessions was a wise decision in my opinion. They should have drafted a point guard though – I didn’t like Jennings, I wasn’t a Ty Lawson fan and Holiday would have been a risky pick but they’d be more useful than a big D’Antoni doesn’t even to put on the floor.

  • http://theKnicksBlog.com Tommy Dee

interesting that nate is getting a pass.

  • DatNewYorker

YES TOMMY DEE YOU WERE WRONG

This team has talent so I dont want to hear you say that the team quit on defense. This teams coaching is horrible. Seriously are you so dumb that u dont see that missed threes ignite fast break and easy buckets for the other team. I want to vent. I NEED TO VENT. DONT BLAME THE PLAYERS, BLAME THE COACHING. The Heat’s coaches and most of the NBA knows to let each of there players play there role. COACH DUMBASSANTONI did not get the memo. He lets Jared Jeffries believe that if he is open early in the shot clock, he should take the shot. Now not only JJ but Wilson Chandler and Chis DUhon were taken early threes. The only people who should shoot threes are the players who are qualified to shoot from behind the arc.

Ive said it before and Ill say it again, Milicic should start at center and put David at his normal position. The team was coached to fail. It is not David’s fault that he cant guard Jermain Oneil. I could go on and on, on how the coaching staff failed us. So dont blame the players Tommy Dee blame the coaching. THe smartest thing you said ever since i have been on this blog was that u were wrong.

If I I see coach DUMBASSANTONI on the streets of NY, I think I’ll smack him three times for all those stupid three point shots he had the team taking. when the ball went to MIlicic in the post the offense was balanced. But Dumbassantoni cant see the obvious. It s only game one so Im hoping the idiot coaching staff wakes up.

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

that’s a good trade an a great start

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

THANK U MAN FOR THIS POST

I HAVE POSTED STUFF ABOUT THIS WEAKASS COACH ALOT

  • HaS

He needs a short leash. Force the guy to play defense. No excuses. He CAN do better. Period.

Once he sees his minutes getting cut into and that double double crown fading away, he’ll start taking charges, protecting the lane, staying in front of his man, boxing out, not lose his man on defense and challenging shots.

He’s not the only one who needs to step it up defensively, but he is by far the worse on the team and it is unacceptable.

  • HaS

I’ve said before that they should force him to be more of a combo guard. Make him play the point. _’antoni is the one giving him a pass by refusing to ride him like a rented mule until he learns the position. At least if he could play it for 20 mins a game it would be beneficial for the team and Nate’s career.

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

i think his D could be better if he played along side a real center an he plays his natural position

  • BiggieSmalls

agreed that Donnie should have been more aggressive in finding the PG of the future in the draft but once that failed a young, experienced player at below the mid level would have been a good consolation.

Que TD with a comment on Douglas being the PG of the future.

you’d think the PG of the future would see more than 6 minutes in a blow out.

  • BiggieSmalls

Nate was awful shooting but the problem tonight was a lack of floor leadership from the point guard position.

Nate is not nor should never be considered a point guard.

the team shot almost twice as many thees as the had free throws. Cant win that way.. Never could never will.

  • BiggieSmalls

chandler is completely miscast at the 2 guard. he needs to drive to the hoop and playing in the back court doesnt encourage that..

trade him and Lee for a real young dynamic PG.

Zeke players (Nate, Lee, JJ and Will) got 52% of the minutes tonight.

  • italian stallion

    Tommy,

Any team can look good defensively against the Nets when they are missing their best player or against the Israeli team. LOL

    Chandler is fine.

The problem is that he’s NOT a good outside shooter PERIOD!!!!!!!

It’s not about how many points you score. It’s about how many points PER SHOT you score. If he would stop shooting 3s, he would become a massively more efficient player. For some guys, they can’t do that. But he has the athleticism to get to hoop and score plus draw fouls. And, he’s pretty good from the free throw line.

Without the 3s, tonight he would have been 6-12 and 6-6 from the free throw line for 18 points. That’s FREAKING EXCELLENT EFFICIENCY. He was 1-6 from the 3 point line which turned the night into another of his mediocre performances. The extra few points is bullshit. Basketball is about efficient scoring not just scoring points.

I question Chandler’s basket ball IQ, but at least he’s young. However, D’Anonti is either an idiot or doesn’t freaking care because he wants him to develop the shot. Any coach with even a half a brain would reign this kid in by now. It’s over a year that this stupidity has been going on. When do you realize that guys like Jeffries and Chandler CANNOT SHOOT 3s well enough to justify them. It’s RETARDED!!!!!!!!!

  • Bob

THEY SHOULDA TRADED NATE LAST YEAR WHEN THEY HAD THE CHANCE..sorry bout caps ..but nate will always be nate, when its time to take a foul shot ,hes worried bout saluting someone or pulling his frggn ear lobe, when he makes a shot hes thinking of yelling”SHAKE N BAKE” the coach should have a little chat with him about these self promotions of his …TEAM BALL it aint team ball when yer trying to attract attention to yourself instead of concentating on the task at hand

  • Bob

when the 3s arent falling, there has got be a “PLAN B” YOU CANT DIE BY THIS OFFENSE WHEN YOU HAVENT THE SHOOTERS TO PULL IT OFF

  • HaS

The only thing that makes Duhon a better point guard than Nate is that he’s better in the pick and roll, his having better shot selection is debatable. Nate imho is a better passer, he has shown the ability to find people he just doesn’t do it consistently, while Duhon is painfully consistent (some would say consistently garbage, I don’t think he’s as bad as some you think but he’s nothing more than a decent backup).

If Nate had a coach pull that ability to distribute out of him and challenge him rather than give into him being a 5’9″ shooting guard/side show, I think he could be a solid combo guard or scoring point guard.

  • HaS

He had more than a few high assist/low turnover games last year.

  • JPtheGeezer

    Guys, guys, guys!!!

It’s game 1 of an 82 game season, I think you’re being overly harsh.

Yes we know these players well, but we’re the only fans that really know who Wilson Chandler and Toney Douglas and Danilo Gallinari are! The rest of the NBA fanbase don’t know jack about three quarters of our roster, and why? Because we have no legit stars. The heat have DWade, and Michael Beasley is gonna be a superstar if he can keep outta trouble. We’re not expected to compete with the top tier teams, and nor should we, AND thats a good thing!! I’d rather be an underdog than a front runner, there’s no pressure on the underdog, the underdog can suprise better teams and mark my words we will suprise a fair few teams along the way.

How about the positives to come out of this game? I don’t hear anybody complimenting Gallo’s 22 points for example!

I guess I’m just asking for you all to have some perspective, we really only stunk up the 3rd quarter, and our defense needs tinkering AGAIN. But its just game 1 guys, 81 games to go. There’s no need for panic stations, we’re not a 50+ win team……………….YET.

We gotta walk before we can run, we gotta prove to the top class FA’s that we can COMPETE. I still say to this day that, not including Shaq’s arrival, you take Lebron James out of that Cleveland team and what have you got? A pile of crap is what you got, so really whats the difference between us and the Cavs? Nothing! Think about that. I hope we’re all rooting for many many numbers in the losses column for Cleveland, because Lebron will get fed up and look for a new address and if we can show him promise from our young core, and have the ability to bring in a 2nd max level player then the sky really is the limit.

Let’s root for our young guys, watch them gel and please don’t jump on their tails after the first game of the season.

I live in Australia and when we root for a team we stick by them through thick and thin, some call it blind faith, absolute one eyed favouritism, call it what you want. I love this knicks team, and damn it I’m sticking with em. They might bug me sometimes with their thoughtless play but who cares, NY Knicks rule, and we will have our time to shine. I’ll be standing strong when we’re back on top, knowing that I didn’t bag em out after the 1st game of a season, basking in the spoils of a championship as NY basketball becomes relevant again. Where will YOU be?

  • Mucha

    I agree.

Wilson Chandler has to be a slasher – FIRST – who’s allowed to shoot OPEN 3′s. But here’s the problem, he’s a mediocre ball-handler and he’s not good enough to improvise with the ball in his hands. Which is why he’s replaceable in my opinion.

And Jeffries… he’s just a nightmare – he’d be more enticing on the bench, that’d be a better place to showcase him. Seriously I understand the fact that he has to play but it really hurts my eyes.

Man I hate this jumpshooting mentality – Nate, Al and Gallo get a pass though.

  • Mucha

    Overly harsh?

    1. Chris Duhon didn’t even try to play well.

    2. Jared Jeffries is terrible, and for some reason he doesn’t want to play within his limitations. By the way how many times did he step out of bounds?

    3. The Heat players were fighting/diving for loose balls and offensive rebounds – the Knicks were eating Pop-corns in front of them.

    4. Wilson Chandler’s 1st half was absolutely terrible. Granted he was the best Knick on the floor with Gallinari at the end of the game (great 3rd/4th quarters) but his inability to make plays and his lack of “fire” concern me.

    5. Gallo played well – if he doesn’t rely too much on his 3-point shooting he’ll have a great season. I agree with the fact that we should also talk about his performance, man I hate the haters.

    6. We have to prove that we’re able to WIN and not just compete. Right now we don’t have enough capspace to offer more than one max contract and there’s only one young player that I REALLY like (Gallinari). Your optimism is a breath of fresh air though, and I agree, the Knicks’ supporting cast is more promising than what the Cavs have to offer. Peace.

  • Bob

NO matter which way you slice it TOMMY,next year the KNICKS are gonna have to pay money for a point guard,it might as well have been sessions,….come up with something better for next year

  • Aussie Gary

JPtheGeezer where abouts are you? I’m in Sydney’s souther suburbs, have been for last 34 years (used to live on Long Island and Hawaii). Was at work today during the game and wouldn’t get to watch it anyway as it wasn’t on One HD. But I did watch the Cleveland/Boston game last night. When LeBron exited the game they look completely lost. They built a nice lead in the first quarter. Shaq looked good in that quarter. He left the game and then LeBron came out and they gave back all of a 14 point lead. And they dropped another game today while Boston was winning in a blowout. The 25 for 30 run by Miami is a real worry. There was no loss of momentum. Our teams over here always had the goal of getting 3 sets of 3 stops in a row each half. Often 3 stops would become 4, 5 or more and that really broke the other team’s momentum. We made that stat our major focus. I can’t remember ever losing a game when we achieved that defensive goal in both halves. I noticed David Anderson playing for Houston. We held him to 24 in ’97 at the national championships, with a 6’3″ marking him, and beat his team of stars (they had David Smith as well) by 3 (we had Boodnikoff). We let down the next night in the semi-final and lost to Townsville High. Anderson’s team, Lake Ginnindera, with the AIS boys, regrouped and won the national championship. We beat Victoria for 3rd. I haven’t coached for a few years now. Anyway back to the Knicks, from all accounts it was an awful start to the season. Sometimes you can learn more from those types of games and get to the bottom of problems quicker than when you play not so well but still win. Winning can disguise a multitude of sins whereas getting blownout is much more confronting. I’m not ready to write the team off after one game. We never had any problem getting effort and if that is the problem then those not making the effort need to sit and watch from the bench.

  • Dave the Rave

Analyzing and bitching about the team and D’A all year will be a waste of time. Nothing much to enjoy this year except Gallo’s shooting. Another centerless, defenseless Knick team…..what a horror show.

I’ll say it again: the only reason D’A became a “top” coach is because of Nash, who had 2 of the most brilliant years ever with D’A. Without Nash, D’A is nothing.

Scrap the entire roster next summer except Gallo and maybe keep Douglas, Lee and Darko for the bench. What a shame if Hill does turn out to be a total bust. Coulda had Ty Lawson….what a shame they couldn’t trade up for Ty Evans…..shoulda woulda coulda….

If I had half a brain I’d stop wasting my time posting till next summer.

    Brainless Knick Fan

  • Bob

nash was a great PG for d’antoni in phoenix, this is why we HAVE to get a very PG in NY asap.we need a general to run this team on the floor

  • joetheknick

Walt Frazier kept repeating during the game is “great ball movement side to side along the perimeter-when are they going move the ball toward the basket?” Why aren’t the players cutting to the basket or at least moving toward the basket for a midrrange jump shot. With all our players standing around the perimeter, it is a recipe for disaster. Duhon can pass the ball but we have ball movement but no player movement. Coaches fix the problem. Let’s go Knicks

A team is only as good as its management. Walsh could have signed J Will for the year to put a real point guard on the floor. D’Antoni is the worst coach I ever seen. He talks a good game and then let’s the players do what they want. As soon as the Knicks started missing shots, they gave up. There is no leadership. David Lee is so overrated and Gallo is one dimensional. And did you see Jordan Hill laughing after the game? Disgraceful. If they don’t beat Charlotte tomorrow, it’s gonna get real ugly, real fast.

  • HaS

Yes, Galinari was on fire… in GARBAGE time!

  • Mal

Last night came looked like same old crap from last year. Like last year the refs give us NO CALLS, NO BENEFIT OF DOUBT. My eyes maybe biased too but I also know a BS call when I see it

Quick note QRick really dropped poundage it was quite noticeable, Eddy Curry should have hung out with him

(1)The horrible switching on defense causing mismatches. Then it was apparent the team’s energy was sucked out of them.

    (2) The terrible shot selection.

    (3) The not driving to the hoop except weak a$$ Jared Jeffries and like last year it gets swatted.

    (4) Although Danillo made 3s, his whole game was sitting on the 3-point line and firing. It ws like when NY would dog ARod when he homered when the game was over. Gallo didnt hit those treys when they were needed they were mop up treys. IMHO

    (5) Baby AL had what maybe 1 rebound and like last season Mike D kept him on the bench too long and at the wrong time

    (6) Wilson needs to show some d@m emotion

    (7) Nate was a brickmason

    (8) D Lee did okay but like last year his DEFENSE mainly lack therof was on HUGE DISPLAY

    (9) We need a point guard that can penetrate and score and dish but when you dish your teammates need to be able to make the basket. I was watching guys like Calderon and Nash last night and thought wow why do we have a backup point guard starting, you think he’ d watch film over the summer on how he can maximize his play in this system. I watch Westbrook looking good and running his team

    (10) Did Darko get hurt because he came right in and scored twice and was active on D?

Granted Miami was on fire like Villanova… well not quite that hot but man
Also since this season is a wash we must play Hill and make him learn on the fly.

I was very frustrated last night watching that game thinking its going to be a long year. Yesterday I wrote expect it and deal with it but the fan in me wont let me accept being beat on and not competing.

On another note did you see the Carmello dunk POSTER WOW OMG!!! Poor Milsap lol

  • Mal

    HaS
I thought the same think about Gallo, hopefully it’ll lead to him making them early and often but I want to see him drive some, he just planted out on the try line last night.

    Mucha
I agree wholeheartily Duhon looked like he was just going through the motions and didnt try
Jeffries pulled a W Chandler from last season, constantly stepping out of bounds
The Heat played like it was a playoff game, its the complete opposite how our Knicks played
I like Gallo last night showed me he still needs to get stronger BUT he is young so I must give his body time to grow
J Hill should have gotten playing time Mike needs to extend his rotation and I hate his system with the guys we got. He needs to stress to guys drive to the hoop (Chandler), cut to the hoop (moving without the ball)etc

    DTR
I know whining about these guys all year will get hold but being passionate for the team its hard not to complain especially long as when have been watching this train wreck. Mike D’s system does not focus on defense no matter what he says.

  • jfried

Ok that may be your opinion and I don’t disaggree with everything you’ve saide (I think you have some interesting points). However you going off because you don’t like the system or the coach is unwarranted after a disappointing first loss of the year.

This was a game until the switch flipped with about 2 to go in the 2nd quarter, at which point we stopped playing good team (rotational) D. You’re right its not davids fault he can’t guard j oneil 1-on-1, however i remember on the one where oneil finished on the oposite side of the basket that we needed a help side shot block and lee played him perfectly. This D will continue, throughout the season, to be as good as the effort and ability to play smart of all 5 players on the court.

As much as I’m confident in D’Antoni as a coach I think he made a couple subbing mistakes last night in keeping Duhon and Lee on the court while getting trounced defensively. I guess I understand that since he’s an offensive coach he wants to try and score himself back into a game but it was ill advised in this case. I think you roll the dice and put in TD and Milicic and bench D Lee and Duhon in hopes you get some turnovers and ignite the fast break (not to mention Milicic continues to impress as a great big man passer).

    tommy,

why was jared jeffries playing when jordan hill, our 8th pick in the draft who has the potential to be another chirs bosh is on the bench. we are a horrible team, the only bright side is my boy Danillo Gallinari and we were down by 31 at one point. please explain to me why you wouldnt want your 8th pick to get some burn… you dont get better by riding the bench.

Please no1 everyone compliment Chris Duhon or JJ every again. JJ should be out of the league he’s so bad…. how many times is he going to step out of bounds. Chris Duhon is out of shape, chunky and should be a back up pg at best.

I wouldn’t care if we lost like this and we had our young talent playing because i would recognize they are developing… but as the greatest fans in the world we deserve much more than jared jeffries and chris duhon in the starting lineup and to get completey embarassed,

if we get killed by this much to the freakin HEAT…. wow what will happen when we play ORLANDO OR BOSTON OR THE LAKERS………. thank you God for Danillo Gallinari he is a stud.

  • jfried

Don’t hate this system. When executed correctly it gets players the best look possible at a jumper or layup and is predicated on sharing the ball and unselfishness. The theory and ball movement will allow us to potentially flourish in the future if we sign more than one ball dominating player (ie LBJ, D Wade J Johnson).

  • jfried

“Diversifying your attack gives you a better chance of STAYING on fire. When a good shooter can drive and get to the line and see that ball go through the rim off free throws the bucket only gets bigger.”

True but how can you diversify when you don’t have a balanced offense, not saying it would drastically improve the team (especially not defensively unless something has dramatically changed) but Eddy Curry’s low post presence and ability to play on the low block getting 10-20 touches a game would make this offense much more balanced. Who do we have now who can get that many touches a game in the low block and be anywhere near consistent? Lee (hell no, although I did like seeing him try to play with his back to the basket on a couple possessions thats something I’d like to see him keep working on) Milicic (he looked decent at the very beginning when he finished with his left coming middle and then his right fading baseline but cannot be consistently counted on to produce down there) I would consider putting Al and Will here but neither of them could ever be effective off the low block with that many touches unless the other team played piss poor D.

As much as I hate to say it we need to get curry back and work him into the offense… WOw that just doesn’t even feel right typing it!

  • Rene

The way I see it we have nobody that drives to the basket,it’s fine passing in the perimeter but sometime before the 24 seconds expires someone has to break a move to the basket,it’s hard to say it’s coaching or the players,we got manhandled on the boards and we shot bad from outside, they shot great and rebounded great.I have no problem with the three’s but we have to mix it up with cuts to the basket,Chandler got charging calls negating his ability to the hole ,this is a big problem, our two has to go to the hole,I know it’s one game but it hurts to watch Jeffries start ,he has to be the worst starter in the league. If we have to showcase much longer I’m affraid how much this will hurt us.Chandler can’t shot threes consistently and causes to many charges when he drive he should concetrate on rebounding, defense and the mid range shot like Beasley did last night and not force the drives just stop and nail the short jumpers.Gallo is our best player, when Al is our leader man are we in trouble while Al is trying hard,he just does not have a complete game to be a leader. We need Lebron bad.Lee had a good game but his defense is terrible ,I would like him to matchup with power forwards to really gauge his defensive skills before we sign long term,Darko like many here said has to start and why did we get away from feeding him,we have to have more of an inside out game not just outside game, feeding Darko would help because he did look good shooting and passing,so my rosy recap is Gallo and Darko and my darkside recap is Jeffries and Chandler regress or lack of progress. This team needs Wade and Lebron and then we would solve all of these problems.LOL Pleas Donnie get on the phones and ship Jeffries out of here.

  • jfried

Yes, hadn’t even thought about this but I’m with it.

In an ideal world we can somehow grab skip to my lou without having to give up duhon and have them split the minutes. Cuz IMO without Duhon, Lee will not be nearly as effective offensively without the other half of the vulcan pick and roll game.

  • dino2008

we had the chance to lan a pg that was filled with studs yet we chose a pf. i have no problem with hill i like the pick and i love his potential but if your going to chose him over brandon jennings then he sure as hell better play over jared jeffries when your team is down by 31 points to the miami heat. what is going to happen when we play the lakers are we going to lose by 50

  • Rene

I also would like to add the refs really help Miami when the game was close this didn’t help us either,I don’t understand why we allways get killed with bullshit calls. When we went to the hoop the few times we did Miami would used the body and elbows on us with no calls but they would get calls for us breathing on them, hey I’m not saying that’s why we lost but add Miami hot shooting and our bad shooting plus they get all the calls and that can’t be pretty,we did try to drive sometimes and when that happen the refs gave them to much and gave us squat.I felt like that when we played Jordan and he would foul us to death and not get one call but we breath on him and he yells oouuuuh and would get a call,I do not understand why refs really hate us so much. And this is through the years.I would say we got robbed by five calls when the game was still pending this can demorolize a young team too,we are trying hard and and catch a break,we have to learn to overcome all this negative bullshit from the refs.

  • dino2008

We have a lot more things to worry about then the refs

  • JASONHAYES

Im tired of Will looking like a clueless basketball player, this guys goofy peronality is gonna hinder him from becoming anything close to all-star caliber.

Gallo is not a stud! THE MAN SHOOTS THREES LIKE THAT IS THE ONLY WAY TO SCORE! He got lucky last night that he hit all those shots when the game was irrelevant. Im not impressed at all. The man has handle and does not use it, to take guys off the dribble and draw fouls. He looks like a guy with no basketball iq, like D’antoni. His defense suck against guys his own size, and other teams no this. He

Donnie screwed up the last two drafts, we should have took Eric Gordon last year. B.Jennings at 8, and picked up Dejuan Blair at 29. I don’t know what else to say, we are going nowhere fast. Why would you draft a lottery pick based on potential? Thats what you do with the 29th pick. I’m sorry I even drank the kool-aid. Im going to AAA to get it out of my system, I suggest the remaing ones drinking to do the same.

Duhon has been and will always be PURE GARBAGE!

Larry Hughes is secretly calling Lebron telling him how wacky this organization is. So forget Lebron.

Al had a tough night, but he played with passion and energy. I will never dispute that.

Jodan Hill should be slapped for laughing after a loss like that. I know he didn’t play much, but as a player who has pride he should be embarrassed. Apparently he has none, especially with that doofy hairstyle he wears, what a CORNBALL!

Don’t even get me started with Eddy Curry, I feel no sympathy for anything about this man. What a waist of a humanbeing! So many people would kill to be in his position, and he’s just taking advantage of it. The NBA and Players Union need to get together and make the Eddy Curry clause. Any player who hasn’t played more that 60 games in two years, can and will have their contract voided. I think the NBA should have non-guaranteed contracts like the NFL. Im sure we would see a high level of play everynight in the league.

Why is Dantoni still playing David lee still playing at center? The man is a natural 4? WTH? I think Dantoni is delusional sometimes. A smart coach would have this line up:
    Darko
    Lee
    Harrington
Chandler or (Gerald Green, idk why he isn’t signed, he’s a pure 2)
Duhon (until Douglas gets his jumpshot consistent)

I know its just the first game, and i know the knicks will win some games, but we will not make the playoff or gain any respect. With these players and stupid coaching! Trust me it will not be long before we start hearing the fire Donnie and D’antoni chants.

Im a die hard Knicks fan and its very discouraging when you see season previews, and teams like the Oklahoma Thunder, Clippers and Nets are predicted to have better seasons than us, and then they come out and justify why the experts feel that way. Its becoming unbearable and embarrasing to root for these guys.

  • JLS125

How did Q-Rich lose so much weight? Is anybody else not angry that he could drop weight in MIA but not in NY?

  • DinnerDog

I actually thought Lee looked like was trying, he was just way overmatched. I wish they would play Darko and Lee together.

I really thought Darko looked good. It was really weird looking. He looked like he was in control. Good passing, decent moves down low.

I also agree about Gallo being more versatile, but maybe he needs to be draining threes for a while to build up his confidence. Then he can take it mid range. The guy needs to get accustomed to getting major minutes on the big stage, and this might be how he gets it.

  • DinnerDog

Yeah Wilson needs to be a catch and shoot guy. The guy makes dumb moves and forces bad shots. He makes a lot of them, which is great, but this team needs to have a higher FG% or else their crappy defense is going to give a ton of transition points.

Also, I think Jeffries played well on defense until the Heat figured out how to take advantage of all the switching.

  • Mucha

    Agree

  • Mal

I agree TD about not spending money on Sessions, who I dont think he would have really done much better than Duhon is dong now.
Its just Chris D is a backup and I said earlier maybe just maybe DW has that open spot for a trade, Livingston, E Gordon who knows or its just my wishful thinking

  • Mucha

The biggest problems yesterday were the lack of aggressivity and the lack of movement off the ball in my opinion.
