C.C. Heavily Recruiting Lebron
By Tommy Dee - Nov 8, 2009 11:26 am

“…Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia is trying to recruit LeBron James to play in New York City.

Sabathia came to New York this season after spending many years in Cleveland with the Indians.

“He’s seen both sides of the fence, being in Cleveland and now in New York,” James told the New York Post.

Now Sabathia wants to see LeBron make a similar jump.

“No doubt. This is it. This is the stage he wants to play on,” Sabathia said. “And I think he’ll be great here.”

“I’m trying. I’m trying hard,” he said of recruiting LeBron. “By doing these interviews and doing these different things, I’m trying hard.”

Lebron understands, I think, that if he doesn’t win in Cleveland his image will be scarred. If he rebuilds this mess, well…and I don’t even think they’ll need a 1A.

Gallo, Hill and Douglas along with maybe say Rudy Gay or Manu Ginobili, Lebron can make this a 50 win team in a year.

The worse we play the better Lebron Looks when he comes and turns this team around.
I still can’t watch them play like this the rest of the season if we suck ok we suck Im not mad but the fact is they are talented enough to win these games teammates not trying and teammates getting to much minutes is HURTING US.
Im worried about the number of people that would be on our roster next year if we signed Lebron and say a Rudy Gay.
Our Roster would be

Toney Douglas
Rudy Gay
Gallo
Lebron
Hill
Wilson
Eddy Curry (If he isn’t moved)
JJ (If he isn’t moved)

Thats 8 people…Would we have cap to sign some role players?

Having both Curry and Jeffries on the roster gives us $25M left (est. $53M cap)… LeBron’s max is, what, $18M or $17M and change, something like that, so that’s $7M left for Gay and others… Not good. At the least, IMO, Jeffries has to go and being paired with Wil frees around $9M, so that’s $16M to sign 6-9 players… I’m afraid of what Gay will be offered, but it’s not like we have to match, either. I think Raja Bell is the better option, but that’s my Phoenix tinge coming into play, too. I think Bell would take a little less ($4.8M per) to play with Coach D again

Douglas
Bell
LeBron
Gallinari
Curry

Hill
and piece in the rest?

I just wish we traded Chandler away when his value was high. I’d wait right now on trading Chandler away with Jeffries until Chandler’s value gets higher. We can definitely get a team’s #1 at least if we traded Chandler.

Right, and I don’t think Donnie would pull the trigger this early, anyway, unless a deal involves Curry.

“I’m afraid of what Gay will be offered, but it’s not like we have to match, either.” – meaning if we traded for him this year (with the whispers of Iverson around the blogosphere)… Wil/JJ/Duhon for AI/Gay/Hunter/Williams – three expiring, one restricted. Gay’s qualifying is $4.4M, so if we get lucky and stay at that, we gain a net of about $3M for next year leaving us at around $29M; $11M after LeBron with 7 on the roster.

Gay wants the Numbers Lee wanted 10-12 million for 5 years I think.

If we got lucky and he wasn’t offered anything in ‘10, we can afford to pay him that in ‘11. I personally wouldn’t, but maybe he’d earn that in the timeframe.

If LeBron switches teams the number is going to be closer to 14-16, not 17-18. His salary can only go up a certain percentage of his previous salary and it cant exceed a certain percentage of the total cap. Ken Berger of CBS did the math a while back.

I don’t think Lebron’s image would be scarred at all. Was Shaq’s image scarred for leaving Orlando? No one is going to care about Cleveland and Lebron leaving there as long as Lebron wins.

Only Cleveland would be left heartbroken…I would feel bad for them, but my exuberance for Lebron coming to NY would be greater than that.

honestly im so sick of this season already. Congrats to David Lee for acquiring a 15 foot shot, but please STOP TAKING 20 A NIGHT! The Knicks are so bad i bet we couldnt even get Vin Baker to join our team. What we should do is start Darko as a center instead of Lee, Lee will be starting PF, Douglas as the PG, Hughes as SG and throw Gallo in the mix too. I’m so tired of losing, but at least the Nets are just as bad!

The sad thing is D Lee is looking to Pick and Pop more than Roll.

It’s true and pathetic; he pops, and there are times where Duhon is doubled and the lane is wide open. Not that we know Duhon could make the pass

We gave Cleveland Jim Brown they owe us.I would love to get Gay and get rid of JJ and Curry at all cost preferably keeping Lee & Gallo.Duhon has disppointed this season.I would personally drive them to the airport traps/9.

You’re not going to be paying Lee and Gay the same thing – if Donnie can clear BOTH JJ and Curry off, he is a genius and should sign Gay at about $11M/5 if he REALLY wants him. If you can get someone to bite on Curry and it takes Lee, don’t hesitate.

My issue with Gay is there are cheaper options in ‘10 (assuming he’ll get an offer). We don’t have to build a superstar roster in only one year. If Donnie thinks Gay is THE future, then fine – pull the trigger. But I don’t see why someone like Raja Bell wouldn’t wanna reunite with Coach D at $4.8-5.5M/4 and end his career with a shot at a ring. He fills your 2, Gallo’s a 3, and LBJ is your de facto 1. If you can afford him, Bosh is your 5 and Hill is your 4 (or a vet minimum at the 4). If you can’t, Hill is your 4/5 and Curry/JJ is opposite until ‘11 when you can go after David West.

So if I’ve been reading you right, Tommy, your usual reasoning that:

a) if, come July, our roster is clearly superior to the Cavs, LeBron is likely to sign with us to improve his chances of winning a title.

…has now evolved to:

b) if, come July, our roster is still a mess, LeBron is likely to sign with us because of the challenge it would represent.

It’s also interesting how you scold people for making assumptions about Hill based on the little we’ve seen, and yet you’re using the same sample size to extrapolate him into a rotation player — or even a starter — less than a year from now. At least you’re consistent, in your own way.

I don’t think it’s possible for our roster to be a mess with 6 players on the books, at most, except from a salary cap perspective. If Curry and/or Jeffries gets moved, we’ve got a good shot.

And Hill will have to be a rotation player at some point, otherwise you’ll never know if he’s worth a new contract or not. Doesn’t seem like a big leap to me.

A little off the topic here….i just finished reading a post by Alan Hahn on the Knicks fix website where he literally said what i said to myself after yesterdays game word for word. Once again Allen Iverson wants out of memphis due to his inconsistant lack of minutes even though he is saying that it isnt true and he is leaving the team for personal reasons. If we all remember, he did this last year to Detroit right before the playoffs and also said it was for personal reasons and not the fact that coach curry lied to him and told him he was going to be the starter over hamilton moving foward. This to me looks like a possibility not only to get somewhat of an upgrade at the 1 or 2 position, but as a possibility to maybe dump one of our two contracts that past this year( curry, jeffries). I say jared and duhon to memphis for allen iverson and steven hunter. It sounds crazy, but i am a die hard Knick Fan and i am tired of seeing 5 on 4 out there everygame and when duhon ends up with 0 points. I never really though of iverson as a point guard but what the hell, we have nothing to lose right now. Memphis will get jeffires and a solid backup for conley while will get a solid bonified scorer and name in iverson who i think will perform fairly well in D’antoni’s run and gun offense and steven hunter who could be solid given sometime and if not , hes off the books next year anyway. Most importantly, we will get rid of Jared jeffries contract which will be wonderful and accomodable to J.Hill and Darko, who i think will be more effective for us given his jeffries type minutes. I like how duhon is not a selfish pg but come on man take it to the rack !!!!! there literally were some plays where he was right under the hoop for an easy layup and he kicks it out all the way to the three point line….???at least iverson at the age of 34 willnot think twice about scoring, and i think as of now he will be a perfect fit. Right now i think the knicks should be open to any pending deals…….and lets remember , iverson is only acting this way with these teams because he wants to play….he wont have that problem in NY…take a chance on him for one year….with the way things are going,,,,ill tack a chance on smush parker or jamal tinsley running the 1on this team….thoughts????

Duhon/Jeffries for Iverson/Hunter isn’t allowed – too much cash difference. You’d have to go Jeffries/Chandler for Iverson/Hunter or add Duhon in and get back Gay and Williams.

Memphis will just buy out Iverson. Otherwise they will have to wait til Dec 15th to trade him.. And the grizz dont want that and Iverson doesnt want that.

Hill is a great basketball player……in college. He is not NBA ready, and unfortunately, the Knicks want to make the playoffs so Utah doesnt get their lottery pick so bad that they wont play a struggling rookie as much as they should. It has nothing to do with coaching or Donnie Walsh, it has to do with this kids conditioning and training. Coach D and DW want the Knicks to be a contending playoff team this year, not another “project”

So depressing around the blog now. Now that everyone is seeing what I was seeing all offseason, I’m no longer the voice of doom. More like I’m preaching to the choir.

Sad.

See you guys next offseason.

Awww thanks man, you think the blog would be more depressing without me!

Ok I’ll lurk in the shadows a little, but I’m keeping my long posts to a minimum until something meaningful or surprising happens.

I love that this many people care about the Knicks! The General Tommy Dee’ s job is to stir the pot. Now I disagree with Tommy regarding the Knicks regularly. Have for years.

Let’s get one thing straight. Tommy Dee cares about the Knicks. And this team has been run well since DW took over. D’Antoni’s judgement season will come once the summer of ‘10 arrives and we make our moves.

“You can’t win without the horses”

Until then…………………………………………………….Stay thirsty Knick fans.

That should be the motto of this site….. fantastic

Anyway…. Iverson should have been a Knick to start the season. Walsh should have gambled…. but he didn’t.

Anyway, I think the Washington Wizards have some nice young pieces that the Knicks should look at. Both Javale McGee and Nick Young have gotten buried deeper on the bench down there (Young because of the arrival of Foye, and McGee because of the emergence of Blatche and the return of Haywood). I do not want to get too crazy with trade ideas yet, but the Knicks should deal off their veterans to acquire as much young talent / draft picks as possible. I am not overly sold on Young, but he can shoot and he is a capable scorer at the 2. He fills a need for this team. On the other hand, I was quite impressed with McGee last year when he played NY. Long, athletic, and willing to defend and run the floor. Get him while his stock is low.

For a long time we’ve had the optimists and pessimists, the DW believers and DW opposers. But after 7 games (some might say it is too early, but it hasn’t become a major discussion point) we’ve all come to the same conclusions and agreements beyond our initial beliefs, but because of the dismal effort the team we love has shown.
We all seem to agree that a vast majority of this team (“vets”) play without any sort of passion or willingness to fight (which equals to playing with honor); that the coaching needs to step up in times of desperate leadership from above, and if not should be criticized for it; that, if this season won’t amount to much, at least give the young ones time so they can get themselves in NBA shape to see if they can do any good next year; and, if things are to change for this season, this team needs major rattling, whether it comes from sitting the vets indefetinely or making significant trades to bring in fresh faces who actually are looking to accomplish something.
Larry Hughes seems to be the only vet that actually has shown professionalism (IMO, at least), and has definitely proven my words wrong, and I’m glad, while Chandler, instead of living up for what was done last season seems to have backstepped in his development. Whether it is a mental state or his recovery just before camp, he seems to have become a trade chip more than a “building block” (but I think DW will hold on him and not pull the trigger so early).
At least we’ve all come together (including Tommy) into many conclusions. Too bad it had to happen because our team was embarassing itself and its fanbase, which has always stood proud no matter what.
