For someone who is 6′11 he looks pretty good to me.

LeBron or Wade stuffs that back in his face.

I can already see the Knicks marketing team putting this on file for next year’s marketing plan to sell season tickets. If you look at their highlight reel advertising this season you’d think the Knicks made the playoffs last year.

Heaven forbid we just see the clip for what it is; our promising young talent making a good defensive play and converting it into a sweet dunk on the other end.

I’ll preface this by saying that I honestly love watching Gallo play and think he will be an even better player than the man I’ll mention here, now… But how on Earth did D’Antoni want Gallo over Eric Gordon *for this system*?

a 6-11 pure jumpshooter with an amazing stroke (the system requires jump shooters and we have no consistent ones)

or an athletic scoring combo guard.

In SSOL? I like athleticism. If Gallo gets better at running the court and gaining coordination in the future, he’ll be a real star. Of course I hope he does, but he’s not a Marion type of player to me.

What’s with the superlatives for Gallo and not Gordon, by the way? Maybe he’s a freakishly athletic, scoring machine combo guard. I’d take Gallo over Gordon in general, but he seems REALLY awkward in driving to the hoop and running the court. I hope it’s not the back still bothering him; I know how those injuries can be a big pain.

How many 6′11″ guys don’t look awkward running the court?

Which goes back to my original point of why he wanted Gallo for this system. (Amare and Dirk look smooth to me)

He’s not athletic and that’s what’s holding him back, but don’t need to be the most athletic man on the planet to succeed in the NBA. He faded last night but it’s promising that the only player who could really stop him was Al Horford.

Nice Dunk, even better expression after dunking it lol! But that will be the only highlght for Danillo dunking wise the whole season sadly. I think Marvin was shocked like the rest of us when he went to the hole and dunked it becuase he dont do much in the halfcourt but shoot 3’s. Its like his feet is cemented around the arc. But again nice dunk regardless.

Wow!!!…. What do you guys want…besides a winning team of course!!??
Before this dunk people were saying that you wanted to see Gallo do more. So he does it and instead of saying ok he’s doing more you hate on him. Even the praise is sprinkled with hate. He’s 6′10″/6′11″ do you expect to see a Dwayne Wade type athlete?? I saw a good athlete. Gallo dribbled the length of the court and took it strong to the hole. Where does it say that you need to be a great athlete to play basketball??. One guy wrote that Marvin Williams probably was shoocked by the dunk. Well Marvin WIliams is a great athlete and what has he done in his years as a NBA player. I’d rather have Gallo than Marvin WIlliams.

if he is 6′11 he BETTTER be able to dunk..

I dint say he was the next Jerome James.. just that he didnt look very athletic and a bit awkward in the open court.

he looked stiff if that is a softer word.

OK already call the Galinari fans off! I said “nice play”.

While you guys cheer and get all lathered up over him getting 2 points on a breakaway dunk, I’ll save my excitement for when he does it in the half-court. Or even better when he does it in the playoffs to win a game.

LOL

No shots.

LOL you’re alright bro – I don’t care what you say about the post, I’m just saying I don’t get the big deal about it. I’m the one who called it awkward; he’s certainly not the smoothest up the court day to day, but he is young… I highly doubt I’ll be viewed as a huge Gallo fan around here as the season goes on lol.. Just trying to take it all objectively, though

I think his “athleticism” will improve steadily throughout the season. He’s only 20, and he didn’t play all last year. Plus, he’s 6-11 and lanky to begin with, so give it some time and he will start moving much better, IMO.

Galo still has a baby face. I literally think he hasn’t finished puberty yet. If he fills out he could become a crazy good player.

Comment by Nandonator
2009-11-12 16:15:44

Most people aren’t fully filled out at 21, especially if you are a lanky 6′11″ guy who only just stopped growing – he definitely is taller than when he was first scouted.

People are expecting miracles. He’s played 37 games, most of them injured. Gallo has shown he can do a bit of everything already, compare that to the league’s other good Euro forwards when they first entered the league. He’s the least of our problems.

Comment by HaS
2009-11-12 17:34:12

A bit of everything? He hasn’t shown he can get his own shot, unless it’s a three, he hasn’t shown the ability to rebound for someone his height, nor the ability to move without the ball.

Don’t look now, it’s early, but Gordon has virtually matched/outperformed Galinari in every category except free throw %.!

Comment by Boots
2009-11-12 19:28:00

I rather think that he hasn’t been allowed to show much of what you are pointing out. Gallo has obviously been ordered to stand glued to the arcin one place to keep the defense from packing down on the paint/strong side. It is tough to move or to make your own shot with strictures like that. Also tough to rebound effectively from the arc.

At least they’ve changed that ridiculous defensive scheme that they opened the season with. The one with all the switching that had Gallo and the other bigs out on the arc defending guards. It seems that Gallo is only being allowed to show a little bit of his game.

Maybe it is being done because of his conditioning, or lack thereof, much like Chandler because surgical rehab is different than strength and flexibility training. He does need some flexibility work as he does not resemble the Gallo of the Italian tapes. As I wrote last night, you can see why he does much better getting the ball on the move.

Our perfect trade partner would be the Warriors. Everyone is unhappy over there. Monta Ellis, Stephen Jackson, Ant Randolph.
I have finally realized the light as well our 7 seconds or less doen’t work because Duhon sucks and Toney is more of a Jason Terry than a Jason Kidd.
Watching Steve Nash get up the court before the defense was back and get Wide Open Threes rather than just bring the Ball up and isolate.
We should really trade for a high draft pick. John Wall is special and I demand him in a Knick Uniform. When that doesn’t work we should either look at Tyshawn Taylor or trade for Monta Ellis. Better yet any chance the T Wolves are looking to dumb Sessions?

itzyung1…. I have this conversation almost everyday with Knick fans. How do you know what Toney Douglas is?? he’s played all of 9 pro games and a handful of summer league/preseason games. Can the rook have some time to find his way?? Also why would you want Sessions?? See your the kind of over reactionary fan that demands change. Any kind of change and then blame the front office fwhen that change isn’t that much better.

Thats just what Toney Looks like a Jason Terry type Point Guard. Is that a bad thing No Jason Terry is a very good NBA player and I would love to have him on my team but The JET doesn’t have amazing Court Vision like Toney and that isn’t learned.
I would want Sessions because he is a Up Tempo PASS FIRST point guard. Yea he may not be a Three Point Kill but he is a Floor General.
If Im over reacting O well but is pretty damn obvious to anyone that we need a Point. I still dont regret the J Hill picking because he makes Lee expandable.

Listen I am not as sold as some are on Gallo. Like Has said what has he done that leads you to beleive that he is going to be this incredible superstar that the top nba players are dying to come to the Knicks so that they can play with him. Beside the 3pt shot I have seen little else. Now I have a question for everyone that bothers me. These Knick commercials or their marketing department promote our Knicks like if they were some small market team. This whole declare campaign and the throwing of t shirts and so forth and so on to my knowledge never went down during the 90’s Knicks. Our gimmick was locked down defense, heart, hustle, and a will to want to win and beat MJ, Pacers and the Pistons. The latest one is with Al Harrington about do you love NY as much as he do! Are you kidding me? One game he goes literally insane scoring and emotionally he just lost it and guess what after all that we still lost. So what are everyones feelings about the marketing campaign.

Hate to think what people would be saying here if he had chosen to simply lay it in. The dunk means nothing to me. The anticipation on the steal and the determination on the drive do mean something.

Gallo is still a “colt,” physically. Some folks are going to be feeling a little foolish in a few years (assuming the back is not an issue) when his body matures and hardens, and he is playing in the NBA as a man.

He is progressing nicely as a player. Who would have thought that the stiff Euro who supposedly played soft defense would emerge as perhaps the most consistent defensive players on the team?

He is going to the basket much more this year, and despite being “unathletic, awkward, and stiff,” he seems to have good success reaching it.

It is only a matter of time before the plays now characterized as “flashes” of talent become the norm.

I think that by the end of this season he is going to be playing a lot different, and people are going to be happy that we have him.

The most consistent defensive player? Let’s not exaggerate, his defense is still suspect even though he has good instincts.

He generally makes things happen when he goes to the basket (lay-ups, fouls, assists), I think he should do it more often. The same goes for the midrange jumper.
