Game Notes

Knicks lose 121-107.

It does not take a genius to explain this loss.  The Knicks let the Warriors shoot 58% from the floor last night.  It looked like practice for the Warriors.  Drives down the lane unscathed.  Jump shots without hands in faces.  The same old Knicks.

The poor play started up top with the play out of the point guard spot and trickled all the way down to the interior defense played by our bigs.  Look, this is not a good team to begin with.  But if Chris Duhon continues to play the way he did and has been playing, this might be a 20 win team this year… tops.  He gives this team absolutely nothing.  Look at what Monta Ellis and CJ Watson did for the Warriors.  Just look at what they did for the Warriors.  There was an attempt to pawn off Nate Robinson as a PG again, and nothing has changed with that experiment.   Nate threw multiple lazy, horrendous passes that were picked off and converted for points on the other end.  Haven’t we seen enough of Nate Robinson playing the point?  Didn’t we see enough of that about three years ago?  I mean, c’mon.  This is some of the worst PG play I think I have ever seen.  There is no other way to describe it.

In the paint, can anyone…. please anyone… put an opposing player on the ground?  Can someone please throw a player to the floor?  I am not saying that I want to see anyone get hurt.  Put in the paint, it is like this team is playing decoy defense.  No contact.  No hands up.  No defensive rotation.  No feet moving.  Nothing.

Gallo looked very good last night, but he did most of his damage in the first half.  Toney Douglas played well again, specifically with his drives to the basket.  Al Harrington was ok.  Even Jordan Hill looked good.  While I mentioned him, let me talk about him for a second.  Hill looked as good as I’ve seen him look since the Knicks took him.  But again, he looked good, not great.  He still tries to live on the perimeter too often for my liking, and while he crashes the glass on some plays, he does not do it enough for my liking.  He has talent.  There is no question.  But I guess I expected a different style of play from him.  I am sure he is a competitor, but he does not play fierce in my opinion.  I am not so sure that he is the type of big man that will strike fear into his opponent.  He has Garnett-like skills, but not the same mentality.  It is my own fault for expecting him to be something that he is not I guess.

On the other side of the ball, Coach Don Nelson played Steph Curry all of 2:35 in the Garden.  While I would have liked to see more of him, Ellis scored 22 points on 10-19 shooting and CJ Watson scored 19 on 7-8 shooting.  Curry was not needed for this victory.

The Knicks have four days off, and if there is any move to be made, Donnie should consider pulling the trigger now.  This team does not have a long win streak in them.  Now is not the time to sit around.  We should not just simply let this season expire.  If we can swap expiring contracts for other expiring contracts and other assets, then just do it.

It’s late and I have to go to sleep.  The Knicks are a disaster.  Good night.

Chris I feel your pain! As for Hill he is a cool player but your right he just not give you that “he can be great” feel. Which is my point about him he has that Frye style about him, good skills but no fire no real go get em motor!

A good subject for us to explore is who is available to us realistically, even if it’s a long shot! How about we sign Tinsley to a one year contract make a swap for Rudy Gay and then try to take on a big contract like CP3 or Kevin Martin since there both injured and there teams suck, and seeing as both those contracts are longer and richer then any we have of course we would incorparate Curry and or Jeffries in those trades which in turn will still leave us good money foe one of the prime free agents. Just a thought but hey Tinsley would be an upgrade on what we have at PG now.

    PG) Tinsley
    SG)Martin
    SF)Gaye
    PF)Hill
    C)Darko

Yea I would rather see that @ this point.

  • blackwood

I would even give Mcants a shot at this point!!

  • paulempson

    KNicks

  • paulempson

    Internet glitch…

Its over folks…. KNicks and Donnie Walsh must be thinking this is a disaster. No pick next summer and looks like we will be a 20 win team. Mike is saying the right things but its time to make a move , sacrifice a few players and do SOMETHING

Eddy Curry hopefully will come back and maybe just surprise us all. I cant believe how skinny he looks so …that , funny enough , be our shiny white horse . I dont get why we are not playing Darko more. Just tell him to be a russian thug. Dont allow anyone to lay up and bloc shots . D Lee can grab boards.

    The rotation really puzzles me

    Nate has no value
    Duhon also
    Hughes borderline
    Harrington …no idea

Interesting, out of the Knicks we shipped out , who is making an impact on any of their teams? Thats why what we have is crap. N one wants them until the injuries start piling up on other teas . Then and only then may we find a taker

Better 2010 doesn’t blow up in their face ….

I cant even watch this group.

  • paulempson

And I wouldnt be surprised it Mike D got the sack if this continues………

  • the oak

I am all about 2010 but something has to be done about this year. Play Hill 20-25 minutes a night at least. While he is completely lost on D, he has to learn and why not learn while playing. The rest don’t play D anyway.

-David Lee is the worst defender I have seen in a while. Doesn’t matter if he guards a 3,4,or a 5. Awful.

-Duhon played better last night but is still can’t put the ball in the hoop.
-Harrington is a complete misfit. The offense stunts even more when he is in. Dribble with your head down to the hoop some more AL.
-Gallo- our best shooter is still getting the leftover shots.

I don’t know of any trading possibilities but at the deadline I would be dealing Lee and Harrington for anything without getting more cap past this year.

The thing thats starting to bother me about Lee is that he is lumbering. He isn’t playing as hard as he did a few years ago. He is getting lazy. After a turnover or a bad shot he slumbers down the court complaining to the ref. You are not a 8-10 mil a year player David. There is almost no way he is back.

And call me crazy but if we add some players I really don’t think it would be a bad deal if we signed Nate to a contract after this year if we can get him on the cheap. If we got some good players around him I think he is a solid bench player.

  • JASONHAYES

Sorry blackwood. I have to dis-agree with that line up. Kevin Martin is garbage, good scorer, but too frail to play defense. Tinsley is probably not even staying in bball shape at the moment, so I doubt he could contribute anymore than Duhon. Gay is cool, but he’s never done anything that makes him great, another okay player with a well known name, thats all. Darko is not bringing anything to the table as well.

  • blackwood

Just putting some stuff out there to come up with a way to shake things up….K.Martin is far from garbage as well as being far from perfect but he is a top 3 scorer in NBA and he was made for MD system which is why I bring him up, but if we could get CP3 that would be the first option of course.

Tinsley true may or may not be out of shape we really dont know but the guy is a pure PG who knows how to move that ball and hit open people when they should be hit, in fact I just read the Grizz may be about to sign him. Gaye is another guy who while far from perfect but ATTACKS the basket drives hard draws fouls which is what we need. He is on his last year so what would we really have to lose? but hey if we can even trade a guy or two for a first rd pick from some team that is on the verge of making the playoffs or a team needing extra help off the bench then that works as well, bottom line we have nothing to lose at this point on rolling the dice and seeing if an exchange of players upgrades us in anyway, because at this rate there is not a shot in hell that we can beat out any of the other teams with big cap room in 2010 for the top free agents!

So yea I will live with taking a shot on Gaye on Tinsley even Mcants and While I would jump for joy if we could pull off a CP3 trade i would be very happy with an unstoppable scorer like K.Martin weather he can play Defense or not at this point, truth is he reminds me of Reggie Miller and we could sure use something like that.

  • paulempson

No way we need to keep nate

Trade D Lee now or before deadline

    Harrington and Hughes also

    Duhon is now untradable

    Mess

  • Knicks4life

Isn’t this the same site that was predicting 36-40 wins for this same exact team? Ah well, the Knicks just need what they have needed for the past five years, a PG and a shotblocking center. I’m surprised they even have one win.

  • Mucha

I couldn’t watch the game but Hill needs to play and D’Antoni needs to run some plays for Gallinari.

  • blackwood

Man we can even try to see about getting Bayless again!! he is trapped behind to PG’s anyway!! Come on something anything geeez!!!

  • blackwood

Bayless, Tinsley,Gay,Fernandez,Mcants, try to trade for Rubio again or something come on anything!!! we have to shake things up and at this point we have nothing to lose.

  • jaknicksfan

I Agree 100% just make a deal to help us. If something isn’t done this team is unwatchable. As far as Hill hopefully as he plays he will get confidence and play more aggressively. Only time will tell.

  • bduigs

Stay the course folks. No panic trades. Rubio only. Throw the younger players into the fire. Hill, Douglas & the rooster get ‘em ready for next season. Did anyone really think we were going to be competitive this year? Curry is going to help. Then we can trade him.

    BD

PS No more dunks for the rooster. I don’t want him going Larry Bird on us. That poor guy could barely walk by the end of his career. Lay ups Rooster. Lay ups. Maybe we’ll let you clap back board.

    Capisce?

  • BiggieSmalls

The post game show was a total disgrace.. ONE interview with Toney Douglas then wrap it up and put on some rerun???

Tripuka will be sent packing soon because he is telling it like it is..

That Tina Cerasio needs to find something else to do.

  • DeBusscherescorner

They don’t need to make a deal. They need to give the young guys an opportunity first. The question is when? It’s good that he’s showing confidence in Duhon, but now he is underminding himself. Check this out, the starting five against the Hawks:

    PG Douglas
    SG Duhon
    SF Chanlder
    PF Galo
    C Lee

Knicks held on to a nine point lead for most of the first quarter. Douglas sat down. In seven minutes the Hawks tied the game at twenty, eventually taking a four point lead. After playing poorly in those seven minutes, Clyde said “What happened? They were playing so beautifully.” Why were they playing so beautifully? I wonder…

Enter Douglas. The Knicks took a fourteen point lead. Given, Douglas was apart of the crew to let the lead slip away, but that was because Nate wasn’t there…becuase if he was there he could’ve provided that spark, that extra toughness to take the ball to the hole to secure a win.

    Last Night’s lineup

    PG Duhon
    SG Hughes
    SF Chandler
    PFGalo
    C Lee

Why wasn’t Douglas back in the starting five? Why not start Duhon and Douglas with With hughes and Nate off the bench or Douglas and Hughes, with Duhon and Nate off the bench? When Doug was in the game, he brought defensive stability against a good team like the Hawks. You now have Nate in the lineup to present energy off the bench. Why bench Douglas?I don’t get it. Is D’Antoni trying to get himself fired on purpose. He’s doing stuff that is boggling the mind. You’re on a roll with Hill and now the Knicks cut the lead to six going into the half. Why not play him? Because of foul trouble? You sat him all the way into the fourth quarter anyway.

He knows that his starters isn’t getting down, but he continues to leave Landry, Hill, Mill on the bench? I thought you would include them into the rotation often and early? Why is there even a rotation? As mentioned before, their regulars aren’t even getting it done for there to be a rotation.

You just have to wonder about this guy D’Antoni. ‘They look like zombies out there.’ So why are you giving the same minutes over and over again? I’m not saying to bench them, but why not mix the rotation. Have a defensive squad with scoring like Robinson, hughes, JJ, Mill and Hill for garbage minutes? Or have your scoring Fowards like Al, Will and Galo, with Hughes and Mill as the starting five,..some time of mixture, I don’t know. It’s like D’Antoni putting the rookies with the rookies, and the “Zombies with the “Zombies.” He doesn’t make any sense.

And for you people saying Walsh is doing nothing..why? Because he’s not making trades for more garbage players at your command? Make up your mind Layden or Walsh? The dumb stuff I’m hearing it seems liek you want to go back ten years. How about getting rid of D’Antoni first? His moves doesn’t make one once of sense before you go yapping off about Walsh?

  • blackwood

That sounds good But the course is about landing a big fish in 2010 and I keep asking what big time free agent will want to play for us when there are 3 or 4 better set up teams who can offer the same money?? If your Lebron who do you want to play with right now Douglas or Jennings!?! Do you guys get what im saying guys!! Nobody is going to want to come here to lose when they can get the same money and win some where else!! Clearing money is all fine and good but when there is no team to play with why would he or the other top guys sign here??

So since we blew the last to drafts we may as well roll the dice and trade away some stuff now to become more attractive! Go get a Bayless…a Rubio…a Gaye shake this up already!! Taking a chance is better then taking no shot at all!!

If we keep believing we are the only team with money to spend we will end up looking like azzholes!! Get a big contract now to pair with a 2010 free agent, if no CP3 then a borderline stud like martin or something along the line!! I could live with a Douglas,Martin,Gaye,Hill,Darko line up right now!!!

  • jay from the fix

MD fired? Are you guys nuts??? He is going to be the main attraction for the free agents next year And I don’t mean lebron and Wade only I mean bosh Joe gay everyone. We all know this team wouldn’t win much y fire the coach plus most of the players are not coming back it would be dumb to get rid of the coach. As far as trades only if it’s a superstar coming back or expiring for jj or curry other than that I’m good. Play the young guys I’ll watch if TD hill gallo Chandler landry gets the most mins I can live with the losing only it means the young guys are getting better and learning. Gallo looks better when he is on the court with the youngsters he gets the ball and He doesn’t get frozen out

  • the oak

The NBA isn’t nba live 2010. You can’t just throw names out there and get paul, gay, or martin, rubio, bayless, etc. I agree that it wouldn’t be the worst thing to shake things up a little while protecting 2010 but It’s not that easy.

And how many times are you going to bring jennings up? get over it, he is a Buck.

  • blackwood

There go’s the walsh security team to the rescue again! How dare anyone call out walsh on his mistakes!!….DeBusscherescorner….im not sure what your reading but the smart fans are saying to trade the expiring guys for other expiring guys to try to spark energy and change in this dead team!! sometimes it takes a change to bring out the best in some players and if we are trading expiring for expiring how is that anything like what the destroyer of the Knicks (Layden) ever did?

When I say take on a border line stars like a Martin or a player of his elk or even aim higher like CP3 how is that any diff then the so called plan that is already in place? If we got Lebron or Wade or whoever we would want to pair them with another player who is as good or close to it, so you make no sense in what your saying. We don’t want to add money for the sake of adding money and blow what payroll freedom we have in 2010 we are requesting a trade off of expiring players from other struggling teams for ours and see if the change of venue helps spark a better performance!!

  • Bob

players want money and fame, when it comes down to it,i dont know any players who are gonna want to sign here just because they want to play for D’antoni.what, after watching him for the last 2 years he just might keep players away

  • Bob

when douglas is on the court, gallo is still gettin froze out.douglas is starting to read his own press clippings and hes taking way too many shots

  • blackwood

Guys we lose nothing in picking up a Bayless or a gaye or a Rubio or anybody like that for Al or Lee or Huges or what ever!!! it is a cant lose for any of those other teams ether….and if we did trade for a CP3 or whoever its still a win!! Stop dreaming of 2010 because if we dont have any other bait then money in 2010 we will just lose out!! Miami has plenty of cash N,J. as well and a few other teams. If we dont get our $h!t together asap we will be working on the 2011 plan lol come to think about it that may be more realistic!! some real studs in that year, I would love Durant!!

  • Dave the Rave

I been watching the Knix for 4 decades and have never seen anything as bizarre as Duhon repeatedly bringing the ball up and stopping the offense at 35′ away from the hoop. Where is his brain??????

The whole game was bizarre, in bad and some good ways.

Nellie playing Curry for 2 mins was totally bizarre. What point was he trying to make??? Nellie is wacko.

N8 plays like he knows nothing — he has been a disgrace. Then he argues with a coach. What does he do, eat Twinkies all day? Harrington does not know what passing is about. Chandler is a zombie. Jeffries is useless — keep him outa sight, D’A! Darko is less than useless. He cringes and backs off when bodies start colliding under the hoop, and he has no muscles — is a man or a lady? I don’t blame D’A for not playing him — he totally sux.

Gallo was sprinting up and down the floor! What a concept! What took him so long to try that? Sheeeet…..keep it up Gallo!

Hill was fab in the first 5 mins of the 2nd half! Finally he showed what he can do near the hoop. Start him! Hope he keeps it up and stops the ticky tak fouls.

How much more bizarre will it get? Let’s see if they can score 60 pts tonight. Can’t wait!

  • DatNewYorker

Curry may be the only hope for this season. Now that is sad. Eddy only could make us better. We still will suffer on defense. I think we will have a better road record then a home record. When other teams come to the Garden they bring there A game. They don’t get to play with STARS in the stands every night. Our players look weak and soft. You will never see David Lee give a hard foul. These players are all nice guys. Except for Nate Robinson. Robinson may not be Chris’s favorite but he still is mine. He does not care about the star players that come to the garden. He will pick a fight with anyone. All these other guys have too many friends on other teams. Everybody bashed Nate when we got that first win in his absence. Then we went on a 7 game losing streak. I want to see Nate, Douglas, Hill, Gallo, Milicic, Curry, and Hughes play. So I will keep watching this poorly coached team. I may change the channel when they get down by 20, but I always tune in at the 4th qtr. to see if they catch up. Only to lose in overtime.

    FIRE D’ANTONI

  • Mucha

Kevin Martin makes more than $10 million, if you don’t trade Jared Jeffries or Eddy Curry in the process then you don’t have enough capspace to offer LeBron a max contract.

Kevin Martin is another stat stuffer who can’t lead his team past the 20-win plateau. He’s not a priority.

I’d much rather wait and see if we can get rid of Eddy Curry and have enough capspace to sign two max free agents.

  • Jake C

Dantoni is just playing the wrong people at the wrong time…. it should be a starting linuep of

    pg-douglas
    sg-hughes
    sf-gallo
    pf-chandler
    c-lee

believe it or not this isnt a bad defensive lineup… you have douglas and hughes who are pest and get us some steals.. along with gallo getting us some blocked shots and deflections…. chandler probably our best 1 on 1 defender on the team and lee who is an excelent help defender… I love harringon.. he shows alot of passion
but he is just chuckin up shots… idc if he takes alot of good shots but i hate when he takes bad shots..

    rotation should be

    nate
    harrington
    hill
    landry
    duhon

yes landry we need people to work hard out there…TEAM PLAYERS…yeah i know.. no jeffries.. he really isnt the greatest defender that most ppl think he is but he does make smart plays.. this is where coach should put jeffries in the game instead of harrington to stop these worthless chuck ups to score if harrington is having an off game which seems to be happening alot lately.. when eddy comes back let him wrok himself into the rotation.

  • the oak

you’re right. Chandler is a zombie. I was thinking about it last night. When he gets the ball its like he is lost and doesnt know what to do with it. When he does move he is not very fluid, and can’t dribble.

Out of this whole season I actually think Wilson has been the biggest disappointment. I hope he is just rusty after his surgery but I don’t know.

  • Mucha

I don’t mean to be aggressive but you’re delusional blackwood.

Do you really believe that Donnie Walsh could get Gay, Rubio or Bayless for Hughes and Harrington?? Are you serious?

And we won’t get Rubio for Lee because they already have Love and Jefferson, we won’t get Gay for Lee because Lee doesn’t want to play for the Grizzlies and the Grizzlies didn’t make an offer this summer… I think Lee-Bayless makes sense for both teams but a Bayless-Outlaw package (the only realistic option from a financial standpoint) might be too much.

Don’t bash Donnie Walsh if you can’t bring realistic ideas to the table.

  • Mucha

“chandler probably our best 1 on 1 defender on the team and lee who is an excelent help defender…”

    Sarcasm right?

  • Boots

Hill is difting around the outside, just as Gallo and Chandler are glued in one spot on the arc, because that is D’Antoni’s game plan.

The bigs are all outside, except for Lee, to make room fro the guards to penetrate. There is no isolation post-up game to speak of. There is no cutting across the lane for the bigs.Coach has decided that Lee is his inside big scorer, but only on P and R plays.

It kills me that any time a shot goes up, there is nobody down low to rebound except on a long rebound, or if they crash from outside. If the crasher doesn’t get the bound, his man releases and the opponent’s fast break is on. Only Lee is down low enough to contest for the short rebounds. Hence, his padded rebound stats.

The Knicks don’t have enough high percentage shooters to live without the chance at offensive rebounds. How many of you learned, when you were playing, not to launch the long shot without allowing someone to get in rebounding position? Better to drive or hold it up to hit the trailer/cutter, but D’Antoni doesn’t have cutting in his offense.

They basically have Gallo, and even when he is running his tail off as he was doing last night, they rarely get the ball to him on the move on the break. Last night, he was obviously getting frustrated with this. This was, IMHO, why he rebounded, brought the ball up and stopped and popped at one point.

Hill, Chandler, and Gallo would all benefit from a more structured offense where Gallo could move and Hill could post up. The little wrinkle where Chandler sets up ten feet from Gallo on the arc, gets the ball, gives it to Gallo and sets a little pick as Gallo comes by, isn’t working because: a) Chandler, none of the Knicks except Hill, nevers sets a real pick, and b) Chandler never rolls after the pick either pulling his man away or freeing himself for getting the ball on the move to the hoop. Instead, he stands there after picking, allowing Gallo to be double-teamed, but even if he gets the ball back from Gallo, his amn is till there to stop him.

Here’s a thought: If we are playing fantasy trades today, would Utah take Gallo for our first round pick back? He would benefit from Sloan’s offense, and the Knicks would have the opportunity to get a higher pick than we used on Gallo. Major fantasy time: would they take Gallo and Curry for the pick and Boozer, and whatever expiring filler to match thr money? Nobody has ever mentioned trading Gallo, but that was before the reality of a 20 win season set in and the fact the Knick pick will have a lot of balls in the bin.

Or, maybe, and I’m making a wild statement here :-) , D’Anoni’s system isn’t the right one for the players expected to remain afte this season. BTW, Nate finally passed the ball to Gallo; once.

  • DatNewYorker

DeBusscherescorner I agree. Some fans are brain dead. Stop asking for Walsh to make a move. Walsh made some mistakes. His biggest was giving Dantoni the coaching job. I don’t think he made any bad moves with this roster. Almost all these players won’t be here next year, now just enjoy watching our young players (that will be here next year) develop. Douglas, Hill, and Gallo look like they will be good role players. I don’t think Wilson will be here. Walsh may make some moves but it will only be to drop some bad contracts. So our team may get even worst. Dantoni fooled the entire league with this system. But we all know that it was all Steve Nash who made the Suns look good. I was fooled too.

  • Boots

Sorry about the typos. Too much multi-tasking and no preview/edit feature really screws me up. Thanks for your patience.

  • willynilly1688

I’m starting a drop Chris Alvino poll on my site badbloggers.com.

Jordan Hill was a monster in his first real minutes, what’s wrong with you and your ridiculous expectations. Also the system requires Hill to creep on the arc a bit more than a traditional big man should, he’s also extending his range to make it easier for him to go inside the next game.

Alvino you are terrible. This is worse than you thinking any GM wants Curry or Jeffries and lee for a premium player or first round pick.

  • blackwood

Mucha….First I never offered up any trade proposals I just named people worth taking a shot at getting….#2 I am not bashing your perfect Donnie I am pointing out his errors. Gaye can be had he is in his last year & disgruntled because he could not work out an extension. So why could we not trade Al for him hypothetically?

bayless is only 3mill next year and Outlaw is 4mill this year so say Nate and the Mobley contract is a good look for them for a player they dont use and Roy is good friends with Nate plus there going to want to make a playoff push so having Nate to make there bench deeper while knocking $13.5 mill of the payroll at the end of the season could be attractive to them.

The point of anyone who takes Huges is doing so because he comes off the books and a lot of teams look for that plus he is a pro who could make a contending team deeper in case of injury so lets try to be more open minded in coming up with solutions to some of Donnies slip ups!

These are just hypothetical trying to expand the teams options because as much as some of the Donnie Zombies want to believe all we need is the money to get the free agents we want you will be deeply disappointed when that does not pan out!

  • blackwood

BOOTS…if they would do it I would jump on ether of those trades lol!! Im telling you guys lets get ready for the 2011 plan lol But hey why not save up and go for Durant!! He is a beast for sure so if that where the revised plan I could live with it.

  • bockersORbriefs

Hey BIG,you’re right about Tripuka …he actually questions ‘DAnt’s moves. If he keeps that up, welcome back Cal Ramsey !

As for Tina C, I’m usually OKwith her, but that fluff piece she did haviing dinner with Gallo & his peeps was, well, FLUFF. And I didn’t like her being loose with her timeframes on BJ3 when she quoted him as dissing Rubio as all hype “a couple weeks ago” …. hell, that happened in June .. and Jennings backed off the quote right after that. Maybe she had too much WINING while dining with da Roosta !

  • Dave the Rave

oops, the Warriors play tonight. The Knix are off till Wed….weird….maybe they can work on passing, shooting, driving, rebounding, defense……..

  • Dave the Rave

A buncha timid small forwards up front ain’t a bad defensive lineup? Looks horrid to me.

  • Chris Alvino

Agreed on the Duhon stopping the offense 35 ft. away comment 100%…

  • Mucha

He’ll be a RFA – you can offer a max contract but the Thunder will match and keep him in OKC.

  • Mucha

My perfect Donnie? Nice try, but I’m not on the bandwagon, I respect the plan but that’s it.

Gay? He’ll be a RFA, the Grizzlies will match every offer unless they are not willing to pay more than the highest bidder. They’ll not lose their leverage over a talented young player for a 30-year old chucker who’ll be a UFA next summer.

Bayless and Outlaw for Robinson?? Why would they do that? Outlaw might be better than Wilson Chandler and Nate Robinson is not playing well right now, they have NO reason to do it.

  • bockersORbriefs

I’m repeating part of my “singing” post from last nite totry & relieve a litte stress …

    “Oh What A Night” …

    - mid-November before twenty 10 …
    - 1 and 9, another on the chin …
    - D-Lee’s pissed off, what a night !

OK, apologies to the Mighty Dells & the Jersey Boys.

PS, I’d much perfer either of those classic groups to “Randolph or Rudolph or whoever & his Family’s” soundtrack on Fridays … I can barely listen to that stuff for 7 seconds or less !

Haha, maybe they’ll have enough time to learn how to play basketball

  • Chris Alvino

    Ouch…

Let me ask you this question…

Did Hill strike you as a player that will soon be a superstar? Did he? Like I said above, Hill looked aggressive at some points, but he was not an animal…. oh wait sorry, a “beast”… for the entire time he was out there. There was one play where he fought for a rebound and had a put-back (I think his third field goal if I remember right?). Did he play like that for his entire stint of “real minutes”? Did he?

Look, he looked good, as I wrote above. But the guy had 5 fouls in 14 minutes. You know what, I am not even that upset about that. That is not a big deal.

But as for him drifting around just inside the three point line, I can care less if he can hit an open 20 point jumper. That should not be his primary option on offense. it is nice to be able to hit that shot as a secondary option. I hope that Walsh did not draft him to be a deep threat for this team. I really hope not.

So tell me, did Hill look like a star last night? Did you watch him and say, “wow, this kid is going to be special…”? Did you?

If so, then I will vote for myself on the poll on your new website. But if you did, I did not see it. Again, he looked good. He should be playing in the rotation. But with expectations of being a Garnett type of player, I have not seen it yet.

  • barnaby8787

Random thought here; I haven’t done the numbers, but to anyone who knows the numbers for the off-season assuming we get rid of JJ and EC right? Could we afford Bosh, Alston, Camby, and Raja Bell? Here’s how I looked at it. I know we can afford Lebron. Bosh should command maybe 5 mil less a year or so? Use that 5 mil for one of those 3. If we still have money left over, possible get the other one. If we don’t have money left over, but the economy is bad; since the player’s are aging, perhaps we could split the MLE on two of them; which is possible (AI’s only getting 3 mil a year and is a better player than all 3). If we could get a first rounder back somehow or buy one; our lineup/rotation could be something like:

    PG-Douglas
    SG-Chandler
    SF-Gallo
    PF-Bosh
    C-Camby
    Off the bench:
    PG-Alston
    SG-Bell
    SF-Landry
    PF/C-Jordan Hill
    Draft Pick

Not a bad start to the new decade. Eventually Hill replaces Camby towards the end of the year. Then assuming we have some cap room, we make a run at CP3 in 2011.

  • BiggieSmalls

hey.. i mentioned trading gallo many times over the past week.

    good idea with Utah.

  • Chris Alvino

You should write a little tune for each game and leave it in the comments section. I have to go look up the rest of your song from last night.

  • Chris Alvino

barnaby- While Bosh is worth about 5 mill less than in reality, i think he is going to get a max contract. Because of the fact that there will be a ton of money floating around this summer, Bosh will command a max deal.

As for the rest of your names, sign me up for all of them as complimentary players. Tommy and myself have talked about the possibility of certain veteran players coming to NY for less $ just to play with a max player/ for D’Antoni/ in the Garden. Bell and Alston might fit into that category. With the way Camby might get overshadowed in LA this season, he might be another guy that can be had on a cheap deal.

  • Bunbury

I have read a lot of the posts in this blog, and I’m surprised how positive we all have been with this administration. It was obvious that this year was throw away but what it is sad is how there is no learning curve for the younger guys. I remember how the Knicks of Pat Riley and Van Gundy were proud of playing defense and playing in NYC. This group shouldn’t be wearing the NY Knicks uniform. By the way, whatever happened to playing defense? I watched the Atlanta v. Boston game, and it was inspiring to see the Hawks play real defense on the Celtics. This group of players is mediocre at best but aren’t they supposed to be NBA players. May be the coaches are to blame for the lack of effort or motivation. I want to root for my team but at least put a real team on the floor or may be I should look for my brown bag.

  • MrFurious

    another internet Nostradamus.

  • Chris Alvino

Bunbury- I have not been too pleased with the administration. In my opinion, the long-term plan is a good one. But the interim thinking has been underwhelming.

  • MrFurious

Gee Bob, I was unaware of your impressive mind reading capabilities. You know what all NBA players want AND the psychological disposition of T Douglas. Truly amazing.

  • dino of syracuse

Nate for Jonny Flynn?! Geez, even Jason Williams would’ve outplayed Duhon so far this year…and the “Practice Man” would’ve been entertaining at least…So is it a confidence thing with Duhon? At the very least, penetrate and hit your good shooters like Dino. It’s early in the year though, but still…Keep the youth movement going!

  • DatNewYorker

Chris, I dont even know why you even responded to that dude. You made good and accurate points. Only thing I have a problem with is that you don’t point out the main problem…COACHING!

  • blackwood

OAk…I know you got a thing for me but if your going to reply to my post then dont twist what i said to fit your what you need or feel like saying please. You make it sound like I said we should trade for all of them at the same time right now, what I was doing was opening the floor to other player who could be options, some more so then other but never the less something to explore.

Rubio and Bayless so far are just potential because the have never played in the NBA or is trapped on the bench so no reason to believe we could not pull something off there, as for Gaye i already why I believe he could be an option as well as why his attacking the basket style is what our team is lacking flaws and all he brings something we dont have to the table.

I was not bring up Jennings directly I was making the point that since Donnie blew the last to drafts we have to find other ways to make this team more attractive to the free agents we are looking to land in 2010. Because once again for all the Donnie Zombies cash alone is not going to get it so we have nothing to lose exploring trying to swing for the fences and hoping to land a CP3 or even a Martin type player!

Come on admit it OAK inside your pissed with Donnie for blowing it and not taking Jennings!! =D lol

  • Chris Alvino

Yeah I know what you mean about the coaching. I watched the game with my dad last night, and I said to him that D’Antoni does not use the right rotations. How can we get killed in the paint two straight games and leave our best interior defender on the pine? Why because he is not a great offensive player?

Coaching might not be the biggest problem, but it it has been a problem thus far.

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

i wonder who the JAZZ are going to pick with the #1 overall pick…

danni boy your on your way to set the worse knicks record of all time
u already got worse start under ya belt

    15-22 win team…

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

i think DONNIE N DANNI BOY
had a convo about how bad it might be this season so
danni boy might be safe even if this team only wins 1 game all season

but if it was up 2 me danni boy would be gone..

the players suck but i think the coaching is worse…

  • blackwood

MUCHA…Yes I know what he makes and of course if we where to trade for him we would have to trade EC or JJ in the trade to make it work and the fact that his contract is longer then ether of there’s is why it could work, and my point of a B class star like a Martin is because along side a Lebron or a Bosh in the system MD is using he would be the perfect side kick.

My fellow Knicks fans I am not the GM I am just putting options on the table….I know we all frustrated but we have to hold the GM as well as the coach responsible for there short comings it is why the get paid the big bucks!! sure let the young guys run if the dang coach would ever let em!! but before trade deadline we need to shake it up!!

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

the MONEY is always the first attraction

danni boy at this point isn’t going to attract any players
unless he had a defensive genius assistant..

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

AGREE TO THE MAX WITH DONNIE FIRST MISTAKE
I SAID THAT PLENTY OF TIMES..
    pardon the caps

  • DaGawD_KnowLedge

danni boy is the only coach in the nba that doesn’t run plays an it’s very very rare he will
it’s called free balling the players gotta be the coach an make plays..

  • Mucha

I hope this is a joke – Chris is the man.

  • Mucha

    Alright.

But I’d rather see the Knicks have the opportunity to sign two max-free agents and if LeBron is the only to sign here, the Knicks would still have the opportunity to trade for Martin – they wouldn’t even have to make the numbers work.

  • bduigs

This season is a formality. Knicks fans are like crack heads. We say we are fully recovered and not going back on the pipe, and as soon as we watch the team play poorly we’re ready for another hit.

I don’t want to trade our sub-par players that are here for one year, for slightly above par players that will be here for years to come. (Maurice Taylor come to mind) We’re almost out of a decade of bad management decisions. Don’t set us back another 3 years to get Rudy Gay and Marcus Camby. This year we’ll be bad no matter who is on the court. The only players I want gone are the two that will be in the way next year. Jefferies & Curry. This team is so infected with losing, we need anyone who was here during the Isiah era out.

Not to say that next year all of our problems will be solved, but at least we’ll be on the upswing. This year will be painful. Get the whiskey out and bite the bullet Knick fans.

  • bduigs

PS Rock bottom will be when Utah gets the # 1 overall pick.

  • bockersORbriefs

Look at the bright side … we’re a lock to get a top 5 pick ….
    in the 2nd ROUND !

Just watched some of Rubio in a Euroleague game on NBA TV. The announcer is way more entertaining than Mike Breen … I swear he sounds like Borat.

His best quote on Ricky (said in a Spanish/Borat kinda accent): “Rubio is a bueatiful passer and beautiful organizer… his shot and defense, NOT so beautiful” …

  • JLS125

But we all know that it was all Steve Nash who made the Suns look good.”

Yeah and if the NYK manages to get CP3, Rubio or a PG with those skill sets, then D’Antoni’s system looks great. I also thought about it and can see how Chris Bosh would work in this system. He’s exactly what D. Lee isn’t. I wouldn’t mind having Bosh here next season as he seems to be the only person certain to leave his former team.

There is no talent, leadership and heart on this team. It’s a losing culture. This was set in motion years ago. Donnie Walsh has been here a year and a half and we’re already crucifying him. There are so many issues with this Knicks team that needs to be fixed. He can’t attack every one of them in a year.

  • blackwood

bduigs…..Are you for real? Do you believe that if we get Gaye or somebody for a year where worse off? that if we dont do something to turn this dead team around that the top free agents that we really want will come here because our jerseys say New York on them?? thats a day dream!! not trying to be rude but none of the young dudes are really much to write home about (we screwed our last 2 drafts up) so why would they come here?? they can get the same money from a better team!

  • Chris Alvino

And they make their selection in MSG….When that happens, i will certainly throw my soda cup at David Stern… nothing personal, but I will be so heated, words will not be able to describe it…

  • http://theKnicksBlog.com Tommy Dee

for the 1,000,000th time this roster means nothing…please recognize that.

  • JustinCharles

Blackwood…you have to actually look at the players you are thinking about and not just say “young point guard, good!”. Bayless is a small guard with offensive skills but a lack of true point guard skills. With Nate and Toney Douglas, why would we need him?

Rudy Gay on the other hand, is someone I would heavily look into. I think he would be a great 3 or 4 for this team.

Martin is pretty much Jamal Crawford with health problems. He can stay away.

  • JustinCharles

Tommy, try as you might, no one is going to understand that. These fans have blinders, all they saw was 2010 and the chance at Lebron, yet they forgot they actually have to sit through this garbage.

That being said, a guy like Rudy Gay for 8-10 mil a year, in my opinion, is 100 times better than signing Lee for the same figure. I think Rudy Gay fits this team perfectly and would not mind cutting into our 2010 money to get a player like him. As far as I’m concerned, he’d be one of my top targets in 2010 free agency after Lebron.

You even have to think at some point, do you want Wade at 20 mil from ages 29-34 (think of Iverson at age 34), or Gay at half price from ages 23-28

  • HaS

Tina Cervasio has the sexiest mouth. I could watch her talk for hours.

  • DeBusscherescorner

Oak, the thing is what we’re seeing out there from Wilson, isn’t him. I don’t think he’s lost… I think he’s scared and nervous. Every time he’s in a one on one situation, he’s tentative. The same goes for Galo, who is slowly growing in one on one situations. Will is much faster and smoother to the basket. It’s funny because he wasn’t considered a shooter, the way you see him knock down threes now, but more of a slasher, especially in DePaul. Every time he goes to the basket he’s always doing a spin move, even when it’s not neeeded. That’s when you could tell someone isn’t confident in their driving abilities, when they constantly do move and thinking too much instead of reacting to what the Defense gives you.

  • DeBusscherescorner

Hey, throw a can for me too!

  • DeBusscherescorner

    I mean cup.

  • donnie walsh

watching Lee play is brutal. He is mediocre offensively and awful defensively. And have you ever seen a player whine sooo much? the crying has got to stop hes just the worst

  • HaS

Couple things wrong with that lineup.

Wilson Chandler is not a shooting guard, that experiment is over until further notice (maybe this coming offseason he can work on his guard skills).

Toney Douglas is not a point guard. Alston is old and his best years are behind him.

The Knicks will need to find a point guard and I think they may have painted themselves into a corner on that one by passing on Sessions and Jennings, because there’s no one on the horizon who is available next year.

  • manners

Chris I am sorry.. This is the second time this week that I take exception to something you’ve written. You wrote that Hill played good but not great. Huh!!!! Because he didn’t play great that some how isn’t good??. I know you didn’t write it that way but that is the way I read it. Again…..you have to give rookies some time to develop. Even Garnett wasn’t what he is now after 10 NBA games. Did you watch him at all play at Arizona?? There he was a inside presence who blocked shots, ran the floor, rebounded and dunked on many. But he wasn’t that type of player his first 10 games into his college career.
Instead of always focusing on what a player can’t do instead focus on what he can do at this young stage in his career.

  • DeBusscherescorner

    Blackwood,

Good ahead trade the expiring contracts. Let’s see what we’ll get back in return. Where are the smart fans? So you’re saying Walsh is doing a bad job? Is he really? With 2010 next door? I’m not saying not to make a trade, I’m saying mix up the lineup and see what happens. Not bring in Hill, landry in the game with 2:00 to go in the 4th quarter…I mean put them in the fire. Bring in Hill with 9 minutes to go in the 1st quarter. Is that hard to ask? To give the young guy minutes to see how they mesh before trading anyone? What are you reading? I did say this team is lathergic, but not everyone. Martin, CP3, Gay, I would love to have them in a trade…the question is will those GM make that move? You don’t know. It sounds easy right? That’s what fantasy trading on espn.com can do to a man.

Walsh security team? Dude, just relax. Our time will come very soon either by the trade deadline or next offseason. Who know’s we may get a Gay or Martin, but stop acting as though we didn’t see millions of dollars or won’t have other solid FA agents at our disposal not named LeBron and Dwayne in 2010. As I said previously, people may laugh now, but in thoday’s sports that can change in a matter days and weeks. So what if don’t a draft pick, big deal. We have a big positive in our side: the cap something, we should be proud of having. No one is protecting Walsh, but you think I’m going to give up a GM who turned a franchise in the Pacers to Eastern conference team, developing guys like Reggie and Smits. The world isn’t going to come to an end if he doesn’t make a trade. Calm down.

  • manners

Some good points there donnie walsh. I think Lee is a good player with interesting skills but I think his value is as high as it is going to get here with the Knicks and I think that if DW is smart that he will look into trading him for some good value (i.e. draft pick/picks and or good young players)

  • DeBusscherescorner

I”m not worried about whether or not Hill played great, once he played with confidence, which he did. Confidence goes a long way. He showed it in many of the games he played with the Knicks…like he wants to play, not that he’s reluctant to play. When he dunked on the break and when the jumpers were falling against the Warriors it wasn’t like “duh, I made some shots in the NBA?” It was more like “I scored, let me get back on defense.” No one can’t say they don’t see him trying. Does he Look like rookie at times? Wouldn’t you if you were in his shoes? But there’s confidence..and as I said before, he will be good this year…if he gets some damn minutes.

  • DeBusscherescorner

Agree, Manners. Lee does have some skill sets. How many power forwards in the league can dribble and create as smoothly as Lee? Think about it. Only if he could use that handle to beat more of his defenders will he get better. I have three things to say about Lee. 1)His defense is smart…at times. He doesn’t do what other players whether NBA, Collegiate, Hs does and that’s swat at everything. He knows how to put his hands up and move with his man. 2)But he needs to be more aggresive. He uses that “put his hands up and move with his man” too much instead just blocking shot or sending a message. I’m seeing too many sg and even pg bodying him to the basket. 3) He does get very lazy on the rotation…so does the rest of the Knicks. It’s like when the opposition moves the ball on the perimeter the Knicks players ask each other secretly “are you going to run to him?” I mean it’s common sense. You see the moving and a guy open, run from your man to the next guy. See, but I wonder if they know that, but just want to hustle…which I feel they do.

  • DeBusscherescorner

*but just don’t want to hustle…”

  • DeBusscherescorner

What is MD doing here that is special? The dude didn’t even want to come to the Knicks. He told the GM of the Bulls He doesn’t want to come here, but he eventually did when the knicks raised the price. Of course he accepted the money, but it’s the bad s#$% MD said to the Bulls Gm about the Knicks before he backstabbed him. What’s so special about him? He told a future HOF in nash who could create in his dream to push the ball with Amare in the post, guys like Joe Johnson, Raja and Hill on the wings. Just look at the Marbury situation. Everyone wants to blame Steph, but look at that situation. MD just wanted to get at Steph like he did when he first became the Suns coach.

  • bduigs

JCharles I agree with you that Rudy Gay is a much better player than Lee. I would take him at that price. I just don’t want anything to interfere with 2010. You think they would trade Gay for a Knick making similar money? Nate? Or any combo of guys with expiring deals? (AIverson, Gay, Stack MWilliams) And who would we send in return (expiring deals only)????

Alvino, you love coming up with trade scenarios. Can you build a hypothetical blockbuster between Grizz and Knicks without touching 2010 for either team?

If Tommy Dee is the Mayor of Knickville this would put you as deputy mayor, or at least commissioner of rec & parks.
