Isola: Walsh May be Ready, waiting on Dolan to give AI OK

Via Daily News:

“…Walsh has spent the past few days calling his inner circle of NBA friends about Iverson. One of those calls was to Larry Brown, the former Knicks coach, who was with Iverson in Philadelphia when the Sixers went to the NBA Finals.Brown, who has spoken highly of Iverson in recent years, said recently that he would consider adding him to the Bobcats roster if Charlotte needed a guard. What’s also interesting about Brown’s inclusion in the discussion on Iverson is that Brown had a memorable falling out with Garden Chairman James Dolan.

It is believed that Dolan would have to sign off on adding Iverson, which adds another interesting wrinkle to the equation. Historically, Dolan has not wanted controversial players on the roster. He was behind both Latrell Sprewell and Stephon Marbury being run out of town, while Iverson has both a criminal record and a history of causing trouble in the locker room…

Walsh, however, isn’t afraid to take a risk. After all, he was responsible for acquiring both Ron Artest and Stephen Jackson when he ran the Indiana Pacers…”

Interesting. I’ve wondered when Dolan would get involved and ultimately how he would impact Walsh’s running of the organization. Sounds as if Walsh is keen on the idea, and if so, I wouldn’t expect the owner to get in the way, thus bringing Iverson to NY after Walsh does his diligence around the league.

Its only for 3/4ths of a season, how much damage could he cause….

  • blackwood

None at all go get the guy!! do you think Lee & Nate for Gaye could get done? I am desperate for the knicks to get a guy who attacks the basket!!

espn this morning said that both Ellis & Randolph are both unhappy and want out! I would roll the dice on that if it involved Randolph.

  • jaknicksfan

At This point getting A.I. Can only help. He can score and he also hustles on the court something a lot of guys on this team need to Learn. And I am very Happy for Curry he came back and played very well.you can see he really wanted to win the game. Whether by trade or just Playing for us he’s gonna be a Huge Help to us. Wow! We Won Lol

  • jaknicksfan

I love that deal for Gaye, Nate hasn’t played well and D.Lee has to go. Let’s Do It!

  • blackwood

lol i know we never really finish a come back!!

I think its a good move for both teams and all 3 players are going to be free agents this year so its a win win to go for Gaye or at the very least try. I cant even believe these talks are not going on some where in MSG!! We have to upgrade talent just in order to give the appearance of a worth while team to the top 2010 free agents!!

I really hope Donnie explores that Monta Ellis trade and doesn’t write it off because it is long. Lebron has already said he doesn’t care about money he wants win. I mean he wouldn’t take 2 million but we probably don’t have to give im Max if we can get some good people on this team.
    All im saying is

    Monta
    Lebron
    Gallo
    Ant Randolph
    Amare/Bosh/J Hill

    looks good to me.

  • itzyung1

Also this is an idea to get Gallo more shots.. Bench him
If we can’t get the Monta trade done Bench Gallo.
    Play
    A.I.
    Hughes
    Wilson
    Al
    Curry

we probably would get out rebounded but Lee is barely doing it anyway.
Also the Nets are getting Serious numbers from CDR. Maybe we can get Courtney Lee off of them?Just an idea.

  • blackwood

Lebron wants every dime dont even kid yourself thinking he is taking less.

I just dont think just money will get it!! If we had to get ellis then do it but if randolph is included then its a good look on the talent upgrade.

But for me the dream come true is at the end of the season we package all our rookies and JJ for CP3!! and mid season right before the deadline we look for a team trying to make there last push and make the playoffs and in there desperation maybe just maybe we can trade him for a decent first RD pick….if where lucky maybe Duhon and a second Rd pick will get us a low first Rd pick
and then maybe we can say we are ready to be a long term championship contender for years!!

  • Eduardo15

I’ve never been a fan of Iverson (well, except when he was in Georgetown), but at this point I’d be thrilled if Ewing was planning a come back… such is our talent level… :(

Anyway, I was really upset to see Gallo and Douglas’ stat sheet for last night. 0 pts for Gallo and 0 assists for TD.

If Douglas is nothing more than (yet another) undersized 2 guard, it will be very frustrating.

  • NashWonder

I’m for signing Iverson. As far the Gaye trade, longshot at best. Monta Ellis and Randolph fit the system but they are not winners! I mean Ellis was on the team with Baron Davis that beat Dallas in the first round but when the reigns were turned over to him it has been terrible. He might be a tad immature. Randolph is skilled but is a beanpole, too small to play the 4 and I’d rather develop Gallo than to have randolph.

  • NoVaCaInE

There is no way in hell Lee and Nate (who have veto power) agree to a trade to Memphis. Come on fellas…

  • NoVaCaInE

Eddy played a lot better than I thought he would. He actually fit in and did not look lost out there. The team also played well with him. I’m happy for him.

  • NoVaCaInE

    That’s exactly what Douglas is. He’s a 3rd guard.

  • joetheknick

I am all for Iverson as a low cost/low risk addition. We need a slasher and Iverson is certainly that. More excitement is also needed. Duhon is steady but much too predictable. I believe the young players will get their minutes. Veterans or rookies, coach knows his job is to keep the effective players on the floor. Go Knicks

  • bmathews77

I thought one of the things about Donnie Walsh’s position as the Knicks GM was that all basketball moves are up to him and Walsh would only sign the checks.

  • impereal

We NEED Iverson…and actually we also NEED Eddie Curry as you could see last night…Both players get to the foul line…Curry is a high percentage shot and he should b in the starting lineup and NOT Gallo

    Iverson
    Hughes
    Chandler
    Lee
    Curry

    2nd team

    Nate/Duhon
    Douglas
    Gallo
    Harrington/Hill

Iverson will help this entire team…I think Iverson/Hughes at the guard spots will get a lot of steals…and create shots for others…

Gallo cannot create his own shot cause he can’t take anyone off the dribble…if his man guards the 3-pt line he can’t shoot….Curry can get his shot off in the post at will and has a soft touch..plus he can defend the post better than Lee can…Lee is undersized at the 5 and kills us on defense

who is “Gaye”? Rudy Gay? Are ya’ll afraid to type “Gay”? It’s just a name, it won’t make you homer-sexual.

Rudy Gay is a pretty good player, but also pretty soft. I imagine if he came to the Knicks ya’ll would be complainin’ about that.

Package Lee with Curry in a trade, package Nate and Jeffries in a trade, clear off the cap room and go get 2 max players next Summer.

I’d also trade anyone for CP3, but the Hornets wouldn’t take anyone the Knicks have.

  • SilentJay

Agree there, difficult for them to actually give a pass unless hey figure out there’s no way in hell they’ll be here next year. All this whole Ellis talk really doesn’t make sense in my eyes. If we’re gonna make any sort of trade that’s gonna dip into our savings account let’s go for broke and get Paul, Boston style. Just take a look at NO’s current situation: disgruntled PG who’s mildly injured and an organization desperate to save money without knowing if they’ll be able to handle next year’s luxury tax. Throw in there a couple of first rounders, Mobley’s contract before it expires, and anyone that’s necessary to make it happen. If we’re gonna dip, even if it’s gonna be for a mil or 2, let’s make it for someone who’s worthwhil and goes according to plan: bring stars to NYC.

  • SilentJay

Totally agree in going for Randolph though. Thing is, we’re so deep on that spot, I wouldn’t know what sort of trade can be worked out there.

  • DeBusscherescorner

Bring him in. I know he could drastically help the club. It would be cool if he did evive his career here in New York.

  • jaknicksfan

Iverson would thrive in this system. We need scorers and that’s what he is. Also as someone said he slashes and gets to the line regularly as does Eddy. We need that and in a few games Curry should start he played very good last night. I’m happy he’s back!

  • Eduardo15

Guess what.. because you correctly typed his name, now you’re a homossexual! hehehe jk

“Gay is a pretty good player, but also pretty soft”

    Hmmmm….

  • HaS

What 2 max players do you sign if Wade and LeBron don’t come here?
